This is a nice rest area at the Virginia border with North Carolina on Interstate 95 North. One big difference with this rest area from many others in my travels is that this is a car only rest area. Trucks would have to go further north to mile 37 for their first rest area in Virginia. This rest area is similar to all other Virginia rest areas I have encountered(mostly along Interstate 64). This place is a smaller compared to other rest areas, but it may be due to not having to account for trucks there. Even though this is a smaller rest area, it does have a lot to offer. They do have a welcome center where you can get maps, reserve lodging, and so forth. The welcome center is open from 8:30 am to 5 pm daily. Restrooms and vending are open 24 hours. The restrooms and vending are to the right while the welcome center is to the left. I’ve been here a few times over the past few years, and have also noticed that they have since renovated the restrooms since my last stop here over a year ago. Also, the rest area does have a bit of a child’s play area, but not to the extent that I saw at the Bracey, Virginia Welcome Center on Interstate 85 North. This place also has picnic tables and grills if you are into resting and cooking your own meal there. Overall, this is a nice welcome center to stop at. If you’re there during the day, it’s worth getting a map of the state and finding out about any construction that may be going on along your travel route.

Convenient, clean bathrooms and friendly welcome staff at the welcome center. What more can you ask for at a pit stop?

This rest area has bathrooms, picnic areas, and a vending machine area which are all open 24 hours. There is a state information center also with limited hours here also. The bathrooms were recently renovated(this is being written in November 2014) and everything is really clean and new. The men’s room actually has about 10 or 12 urinals and 5 or 6 stalls. This is a huge improvement over most of the Virginia rest areas that have two or three urinals and two stalls. So less waiting here. For those truly desperate to charge their phone, there is an outlet near the sink although you’ll be blocking one sink and be right next to the hand dryer. The vending machines are pretty standard: a couple of soda machines, coffee machine, and a snack machine.

As you travel on 95NB out of North Carolina you will roll up to the Skippers Safety Welcome Area. This is a rare car stop only, so that may be what it is smaller than most. A lot of the Virginia Welcome Centers look like this one and are attractive brick and large gabled roofs with a colonial look. Everything is condensed in the front and it’s not a large space. I don’t recall seeing picnic tables, but that does not mean they were not present. I was just too tired from 10+ hours in the car at that point to do anything but stumble out of the car and toward a urine depository my 20 oz soda at the NCWC a few hundred miles back. I did not go into the Welcome Center, so I cannot comment on this. The restroom area is to the right to the WC. You will NOT find upgraded facilities, they are in need of a complete renovation. However, they were clean. I do not recall seeing an attendant, but from previous experience in VA I know they are on duty during day hours. I like state Welcome Centers and would recommend to anyone on a road trip.

The cleanest rest area I have ever been to ever. I wish there were more like this. There is a great walking area for a pup and people too.

Hey it’s a rest stop… But this one is at the VA. NC. border and it does not allow trucks. It is usually clean and well maintained. They have folks here to help you if you are not familiar with the area too. You can get maps and other info here during business hours which I think are between 7am and 5pm.
