I agree with other reviewers — money seems to be their only motivation! I have taken both a cat and a dog there because it was close to me at the time and an «emergency»! My cat had fallen out of a window 3 ½ stories up and all they could talk to me about was signing their forms and paying. They said if I couldn’t give them a method to pay right then — I had to leave. I was in such a panic that i called a friend and put it on her charge card. They then suggested I put him to sleep or pay for a $ 4000+ surgery. I took him out the next day, to another vet and with loving care he is absolutely fine today (and no surgery).
I had a similar experience with my dog but luckily had my wallet with me. Both times were crazy expensive. They were not very caring or compassionate — I had gone there before it was Blue Pearl a few times and it was a much better place. Now, it seems to be a chain that is revenue driven only.
I have now found another «emergency» location, in case I’m in this situation again.

Do not ever ever ever take any of your animals to this God awful place. They wouldn’t even be getting one star if it wasn’t mandatory on here. 4 months ago we had to unexpectedly put our 6 year old dog down. Before even being able to process what we just had to do, they were shoving a bill in our face and telling us to pay right now. Really? Now, we have a 6 month old puppy who broke her leg. Completely twisted and broken in 3 places (of course we didnt know that it was that bad when we brought her there). As soon as they put us in a room, they wanted us to sign a paper stating that we will pay whatever amount of money it is going to be right now up front. These people didnt even EXAMINE my puppy before wanting money from me. What is wrong with you people? Our poor dog is in pain with a broken leg and all you care about is money?! Why do you work at an animal hospital if money is your number one? I seriously couldnt believe these people and what their first priority was. I took my puppy and walked out, took her to another animal hospital and i honestly couldnt be more happier. DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMALS HERE. Bring them to people who actually CARE about your pets.

I wrote a review but can’t find it on the site maybe Blue Pearl eliminated my review. If I could now give them a NEGATIVE ONE MILLION I WOULD!!! We took our beloved dog to Blue Pearl since my mother was referred to them by our vet. After being told she was getting a little better she took a turn for the worst. After $ 10,000 of bills which has been a hardship for my mother who is 91 years old and this has changed her lifestyle we asked them to take a little off the bill. They not only would not do ANYTHING THEY HAD THEIR INSURANCE company call me claiming I was going to sue them for medical malpractice. THAT WAS NEVER OUR INTENTION I GUESS JENNIFER DIDN’T UNDERSTAND OR CARE AND THIS WAS THE BEST WAY TO GET RID OF US. My mother and I just called Blue Pearl to tell Dr. Kaplan we were not suing her and thank her for her care and guess what!!! She would not take our call and said to call the Tampa location. This is an insensitive money maker with NO CONCERN FOR THE PET OWNERS OR THE PETS! They are in existence to make money ONLY!!! FIND ANOTHER ANIMAL HOSPITAL THESE ARE UNCARING IRRESPONSIBLE BUSINESS PEOPLE.

The primary objective of this vet is to make money at all costs. It’s the only place open ²⁴⁄₇ so they have the upper hand to try and take advantage of you because anywhere else near is closed on weekends, evenings, and holidays. I brought my dog here for an emergency check-​up. After I was told how much it would cost ($ 7500) I told them I would drive 2 hours and get it done for $ 1800. At this point, they refused to give her back to me before they did unnecessary tests that I told them not to do. I will never recommend this place.

Could not have had a better experience. Still unclear if my kitty is gonna make it, but I am confident they are doing everything they can, and that they have empowered me to do everything I can.
The two times Ive been there, and the several phone calls I’ve made, I couldn’t be more impressed. Hell, if they treated humans I’d bring my kids there. Just an all around great experience. I feel fully confident in their abilities. Additionally, their communication was thorough, thoughtful and comprehensive. One of the things I have to do at home (involving a needle) was horrifying when they first explained it. But after a few minutes and demonstration I was confident.
If you bring your pet here, it may be under the most dire of circumstances. But rest assured if there’s a way, they are going to find it.

This review won’t be very lengthy, but Blue Pearl deserves a stellar review. I took my cat to Blue Pearl (transferring him from Premier Veterinary Group in Crestwood after they were of zero help to us for the three days they neglected my cat and let him suffer there; you can refer to my review of them) in December 2015. While there he was treated for what we thought was cystitis (turned out to be bladder cancer) and got to come home on Christmas Day after 5 days. My cat relapsed at the beginning of February. I took him back to Blue Pearl, where they were able to treat him, and I was able to bring him home with me after 2 nights. While they weren’t able to cure him, they were able to give me more time with him, for which I am eternally thankful. I would like to specifically recognize two doctors: Dr. Susan Yohn and Dr. Susan Tsai for their treatment of and kindness and compassion towards my cat and me. The doctors at this practice are amazing. And talented. And most importantly, kind. And invested in their patients’ treatment and care. Though I live an hour away, I was never concerned that my cat was receiving poor care. He received the best care he possibly could have at Blue Pearl. I visited my cat every single day and night he was there, sometimes several times a day. They always immediately brought to me in a room and let me stay as long as I wanted. Though they were not able to ultimately cure my cat, they gave him time, eased his pain and did absolutely everything they could in way of treatment. I’m forever grateful to the doctors and staff at Blue Pearl.

I had to euthanize my dog and was told that «lab samples» would be sent to the state. After choosing private cremation I read in the medical report that he had been decapitated and the remains I received were minus his head. Thanks for informing me Blue Pearl. See you over the rainbow bridge.

Ok, I’m really not sure how this place doesn’t have more stars. I met with Dr. Yohn today and she couldn’t have been more pleasant, more knowledgeable, more patient, more kind, more thoughtful than she was. She took her time. I had a ton of history to share with her — and she spent almost an hour with me discussing how we got to the visit today. I have a 10 (almost 11) year old Maltese. She has heart disease, chronic bronchitis, back leg issues — so has taken rimadyl quite a bit — and recently had an ear infection that required some predinosolone and mometemax — so after all this she got some gastro issues for over a month — which led to some blood work that was off on her potassium calcium which was a scare for potential Addison’s Disease. She tested negative so I ended up at Dr. Yohn. I felt so at ease, which is rare when dealing with my dog who is sick. I didn’t feel rushed AT ALL. Typically I do. I usually have a lot to share and many questions — and she answered EACH and EVERY one of them — without frustration — without annoyance with my detail — I mean honestly I left there feeling relieved about my dog. However, even if the results were not as good as they turned out — I am confident she would’ve helped me through it. It turns out the blood work was re-​run and her levels were back. I had a specific plan of what to do to move forward, and what to do if things changed. I feel confident, informed, and so much better about my Baby even with all her problems because of Dr Yohn and her calm empathetic professional lovely nature. She truly loves pets and clearly people as well.

We recently had to bring our dog in after she got into some Excedrin and Advil bottles in my purse. The staff was very friendly, answered all of our questions, and gave us time to think about the $$$ we were about to drop on preventative and supportive care.
When we were given an estimate for 48 hours of hospitalization, it was much more than we were expecting and it wasn’t clear to us why it was completely necessary. I think what we were originally given is a cookie cutter deal (and likely the most aggressive set of treatment) for ingestion of those drugs. However, after talking to the technician, asking questions about the real utility of the services, and weighing the risk and benefit of watching her at home for complications, we settled on a treatment plan that cost less than half of what we were originally quoted.
I have a feeling this is what most veterinary hospitals do — but I’m glad they were willing to work with us to find a treatment plan that we could afford and keep our dog safe. We didn’t feel pressured into expenses that weren’t necessary. Obviously this applies just to our dog’s specific circumstances, where the ingestion wasn’t witnessed and we weren’t sure if she had eaten anything at all. Also, I am a pharmacist and so I have a different knowledge background of how valuable the drugs our dog got are than most people. Part of our cost savings included asking for an oral version of an IV drug for her that is much cheaper and not prescription that I knew of.
Tl; dr: we had a great experience here in an emergency situation. But as with all veterinary/​medical procedures ask a lot of questions until you feel comfortable with what will happen!

Our baby, Murray was up in the middle of night gagging, coughing and stressed whenever we went near him he would take out hands and put them in his mouth, as if to say help. We checked his airway and there was nothing there– but we knew something was wrong. A Google search indicated that Bluepearl Elk Grove was the nearest 24 emergency vet. I called to make sure they were open 24 hours and the lady was clam and supportive she told me that the Skokie location was closer. We arrived at the vet at 3:45 a. m and we were greeted promptly. The tech brought the dog back to see the doctor and we waited in an exam room, 5 minutes later the vet who was very nice and friendly came. Turns out our dog chewed something and had a piece of plastic stuck on a back tooth. It came off easily and he was overall fine– with exception of an abrasion on his gum/​cheek the doctor gave us medicine and we were on our way. The whole time I was there all I could think was «this is going to cost me a fortune» not true! My total was $ 67.00 including medicine. Although we are hoping to never visit a 24 hour vet again, if something happens we will be visiting Bluepearl !!!

I would like to give this place no stars. You are better off driving to Franklin park or any other emergency hospital as this place will not give you quality care. They will make you wait for an unreasonable amount of hours and charge you unreasonably as well. Doctors here speak to you in laymens terms and will jump at any opportunity to hand off their job over to the techs. Everything here takes twice as long to do. Blood Work takes an hour and a half, IV treatments are normally ten minutes but end up being 45 minutes, while you watch the techs chat in the hallway. If you ask the receptionist anything the answer is «I don’t know.» Don’t expect the doctor to go over treatment plans with you, expect the tech to read off from your discharge papers that the doctor wrote. As a healthcare provider myself, I’m so disappointed in the level of care they provide to their patients.

The staff and medical team at BluePearl are amazing and kind! Daisy and I were there on a Sunday and she was treated thoroughly with such kindness.
Dr. Grace Brannon was excellent in her assessment of the situation and took her time explaining it to me. When you are worried about your pets health, this attention to the pet owner is invaluable.

The medical staff here always take great care of my pets. I highly recommend them. Dr Kim is very professional and took great care of my cat.

Here’s an update to say that if I could give this place minus stars I would. The manager called me this morning because I was visibly upset and loud with the staff last night. And as I said, I’ve literally spent thousands in this place over the years and $ makes the world go ’round.
So the manager called and asked what was said to me. I told her that when the tech gave me the estimate, I didn’t hesitate to pay for the treatment but that I needed to run out to transfer the funds. He hesitated and said something to the effect, «I’m not supposed to let you leave without paying. It’s company policy.» I again explained that I left the house so quickly I wasn’t prepared (I probably had about $ 300 in my debit account) & needed to leave to access an ATM for savings transfer. Again he hesitated & repeated the same. Again this is the 2^nd time in an emergency they’ve done this to me. I’ve never not paid in full at this place for a pet– even when the charges are unreasonably high. I’m fortunate to have enough to pay for my pets. I feel awful for those who aren’t.
The manager kept trying to justify the higher costs with «they have speciality emergency» treatments. They have never done anything for my pets that my regular vet doesn’t do– they just do it at inconvenient times. By their own admission, they wouldn’t be able to do any emergency surgery if he needed it. They charge more because they know you are in a bind in the middle of the night, a Sunday or a holiday. Plain & simple– that’s the ugly truth. I have a vet tech in my family and I worked for a vet while going to college.
So then the manager started to say that wasn’t an appropriate statement & blame the tech and ask for his vitals. I work for a bureaucracy and know how it works… the low hanging fruit is always the scapegoat. Then I told the manager that the vet said the same exact thing. At that point the manager asked if I told the vet to «shut up.» I fully admit this. When I’m visibly worried about a beloved pet and all you can keep repeating with your educated small mind is a «corporate policy» I’m done listening.
My intention is not to get a tech fired or berate a vet. My bigger intention is to get people to realize that this is a corporation at it’s ugliest. I know how much vet techs make. I worked crappy low paying jobs for less & understand not wanting to lose my job. Personally, I break bureaucratic rules when my common sense tells me to but that’s just me. My bigger issue is with this corporation. If any of these doctors or techs had any common sense, they’d form their own ER, charge more reasonable rates & smoke these corporate bastards out of the water.

We brought in our old, sick dog around 2am because he had been showing signs of dying. BluePearl has generally been good to our dog, Cheetos, and to us (we had brought him in before for heart failure) but when we took him to get him checked out then to eventually get him euthanized, the doctor on call, Noe Galvan, could not have been more indifferent about the situation. He did not show any compassion or sympathy. He never used layman terms to helps us understand the procedure or his conditions. Rather, he’d stop short by giving a curt, medical answer when we asked him a question. Considering our dog had been with us for 18 years and was part of the family, his total lack of understanding of our need to take time to make the decision to intervene and to say our goodbye baffled me.
If I could do this over again, I would have done more of my research instead of going to the only ER open in my area and would have chosen a vet who’d make a house call. Or at least, a vet I’m familiar with, not this Noe guy who clearly did not seem to enjoy what he was doing.

Our puppy had a UTI infection and was acting like she was dying in the middle of the night. She was Unilocaling in pain and shaking so we took her in to this emergency clinic. I have had bad experiences with emergency clinics in the past taking me for every cent I have and I’m happy to say that this clinic did not. My puppy suddenly started to act completely normal the minute we stepped in the clinic. I tried to explain my concerns to the staff and they seemed to roll their eyes at me like I was completely crazy. (The reason I took off a star). I didnt appreciate the attitude that I had nothing better to do than cart a puppy into an emergency vet at 4 am. However, they could have ordered a ton of tests and xrays and loaded me up with a bill, which they didnt do. I actually didnt even have to pay a visit fee since my dog had already seen a different vet that day. My puppy turned out to be fine once her antibiotics went through her system and I was really happy not to have paid huge emergency vet bills. LIke I said, my only complaint was the way the staff treated me.

I have a very personal connection with the staff of Blue Pearl. My little girl passed away last month. I had been taking her to blue pearl as needed for the last 15 years. They have always been loving, kind, attentive, professional and made me feel that we were being cared for. Doctors often have to tell the whole truth which does sometimes include some not so great news to hear but the more information as pet owners we are given the better care we can provide. During the last year we went to blue pearl a lot and they were so wonderful and loving when she passed away. I felt very safe and am grateful for each person there. I stand by my five star rating 100%!

I completely agree with the previous review — horrible customer service and total lack of compassion. DO NOT take your beloved pet here for any care!!! Your pets deserve better and so do you! If I could give them zero stars, I would. This place makes it overwhelmingly clear that they care much more about overcharging $$$ than providing actual quality care. Unbelievable, sketchy and pathetic practice.

Horrible customer service, total lack of compasssion or understanding, no apology for requests not completed — immaturely blamed another worker. Unfortunately I had to euthanize my daughter, Rachel. They called to tell me her cremains were ready.
Although I was still grieving from my recent loss, I went in to pick them up. It took two people to find her ashes. I asked about her paw print and Person 1 immediately told me they weren’t requested. I informed them I did check the box for it at the time. He found my form and saw that I did, in fact, check that box but said nothing to me. He ran into the back to look. He askedPerson 2 to help. Person 2 then came back and told me they weren’t requested. Even though i was noticeably upset, i told Person 2 again that I did check the box for the paw print at the time. He stood there looking at me hoping i would go away but i didn’t because i was so sad. Since i wasn’t leaving he decided to say something so he immaturely blamed the person who was there when Rachel was euthanized — as if that would make me feel better???
My God, have some compassion for the person standing in front of you who is in obvious pain from the loss of her daughter. Disgusting behavior and so hurtful to me. Neither of those males deserve a job in a hospital where one should have some level of compassion and understanding. Person 1 didn’t have the nerve to even come back to the front until i left.
a sincere apology from the ‘hospital itself’ would have made me feel as if these two cared that an irreversable mistake was made. It was very disrespectul to me.

We brought our cat in on a sunday for a virus (not eating, loose stools, low fever) and called ahead to ask if we could bring her in for a non-​emergency visit and pay for a normal visit not the emergency fee, and were assured by Shami that would be possible.
After examining her, the vet could find nothing significantly wrong. Vet gave us a written treatment ‘plan’ of over $ 800 incl ultrasounds, blood tests, etc etc. We refused all the above and just asked to pay the fee and leave. They said we had to pay the emergency $ 105 fee, then repeatedly came out to the lobby area to negotiate: offered to lower costs of visit and some tests if we agreed to have them done. Felt like we were buying a used car! This place is ALL about making as much money as possible.

Blue Pearl quickly took our dog in to have his eye infection looked at. They informed us of what needed to be done, of which we agreed to. However, when it came to see our dog after being examined by the vet, the office receptionist came in asking for our credit card. They also wanted to know who our employers were. We assured them we were gainfully employed, and reluctantly gave them our credit card. After paying and receiving our receipt and pet care instructions, then they brought the dog in. Point case being, at our own vet and at Chicago Veterinary Emergency Hospital on Clybourn, the process is to pay before you leave, once all services have been rendered. Looking at some precious reviews, it looks like this is a previous cause for complaint.

First let me start off my saying they have no hand sanitizer anywhere. They took forever even though there was more than enough staff. The place is dirty. Our dog had kennel cough and he spit up and all the did was wipe with a napkin. Didn’t even clean it with something Iran another dog could catch it because of that. The place is decorated really crazy and there’s cards about exotic animals everywhere. Some staff were nice and some just weren’t. I would go far even to say bitchy. I’m never going again but it was 24 and it was the near us.

I’ve unfortunately been here a few times with my pug Oscar. Once for a broken leg, and another time for an allergic reaction. We were seen right away, and the Vet staff were very compassionate and loving towards him. They are open 24/​7, and I have their address pre programmed into Google maps for emergencies. I do have pet insurance which makes the decision to rush to the ER easier, but their emergency vet fee is only $ 105 (+ whatever meds they administer or procedures performed).

My 5-​year old labrador retriever had just undergone morning surgery at our regular vet’s office, and then tore open his stitches at 1:30 in the morning. I rushed him to Blue Pearl and they were able to get him re-​sutured right away. Helping an animal that is bleeding, suffering and stressed out is no easy task, but they were so gentle with him, showing a great deal of compassion and respect for both of us during our visit.
Also, a few years back, my husband and I had to make the difficult choice to euthanize my 11-​year old yellow lab who was suffering from an inoperable tumor. We were allowed to stay with her the entire time, and were offered as much time as we needed to say goodbyes both before and after the procedure. Although it was a difficult and emotional time for us, I’m glad we chose to bring her to Blue Pearl because they were so professional, understanding and empathetic.
In both situations, they were well-​equipped, well-​staffed, and the facility was immaculately clean. Parking is never an issue, and they accept CreditCare — a great way to finance unexpected emergency visits.
It’s obvious that they love animals, they’re great at what they do. I’m grateful they’re open 24-​hours a day, EVERY day of the year!
