Specialties

My name is Mike Jacobson, owner of Cook County Buyers Inc.

I started this business over 6 years ago buying scrap gold jewelry and have been in the business my whole life. I decided that I could do a better job than the corporate gold buyer stores, or local pawn shops and have grown into a top choice in Chicago land for individuals looking to sell their items. Everyone claims to pay the most when its time to sell gold, but I can actually deliver because I have zero employees, a very small office, and minimal expenses.

I work on an average profit margin of 20% to 25% — This translates into a higher payout to you, the seller, meaning if I pay you $ 1000 for your gold, when I sell it to the refiner, it will net me around $ 1200 to $ 1250 depending on what happens to the price of gold. Most buyers would need to pay much less for the same amount of gold in order to cover expenses such as rent, employees, and other major overhead costs.

Another advantage to selling gold and diamonds to Cook County Buyer, Inc. — You get to work one on one directly with me, and I will explain exactly what your item is worth and guide you through the process without any rush or pressure. Rarely is a seller given an opportunity to sit with a knowledgeable buyer and have all of her questions answered and her items evaluated right in front of her, ending with a cash in hand payment…

History

Established in 2009.

I worked at a large well know jewelry retail store for 10 years. In the last few years, I started buying scrap gold on the side from Craigslist adds, and other contacts. Eventually I got my website started, and the business began to grow.

In 2010, I made the decision to quick my job and launch Cook County Gold buyers as a full time incorporated business! Through referrals, repeat customers, and new internet search result leads, the business continues to grow, thank you to all my loyal clients!

Business Owner

Ever since I was a child, I was involved in the jewelry business. I grew up working at my uncle’s pawn shop in Chicago, mostly cleaning up when I was younger. Later I began doing inspections on items that came in for loans or to be sold. I even learned how to refurbish used jeweler to prepare it for resale.

Next I worked for a large well know jewelry chain store based here in the Midwest. I started there at the age of eighteen and worked there for ten years, first as sales, and eventually as manager. Then, about five years ago, I started buying gold part time on my days off. I used Craigslist to find sellers, and I launched a very simple website.

Eventually, I started getting more calls then I could handle on my two days off a week and I had to make the decision to walk away from the security of a regular paycheck from my job of ten years, but I decided I’d rather spend my time buying jewelry rather than selling it, and that brings me today!
