Mid Moving & Storage

Bottom line: Mid Moving and Storage is an awful company with rude employees. Based on terrible reviews of this company on Unilocal and other websites, I’m shocked that they’re still operating. DO NOT use their services.
I wish I could give this company zero stars. I actually had to wait a while and cool off before writing this review — that’s how angry/​frustrated/​upset I was after my nightmare of a move from Chicago to Baltimore. I never would’ve chosen Mid Moving on my own, but was forced to work with them after my original east coast-​based moving company decided to contract with Mid Moving without telling me.
The foreman that Mid Moving sent to pick up my belongings was extremely rude. At one point, I asked him a question about how he was wrapping my couch and he said «just let me do my job, okay?!» Completely uncalled for.
Be aware that the sales side and operations side seem to be completely separate. When I couldn’t get ahold of Daniel in Operations, I called the sales line to ask how I could leave a message for someone in operations. When I expressed my frustration at not being able to reach any human being in operations, the sales girl hung up on me and proceeded to screen my future calls!
Daniel in Operations only ever contacted me when it was time to collect money for storage. Otherwise, he never responded to my emails and clearly I had trouble reaching him on the phone.
When I finally found an apartment in Baltimore, Daniel insisted that I needed to pay them $ 200 more to get a small truck to deliver my belongings instead of bringing the 16-​wheeler semi-​truck to my apartment. When I asked my building maintenance manager about parking a semi-​truck in the back of the apartment, he said it was no problem and that semis park in the back all the time due to construction. When I told this to Daniel, he again insisted that he couldn’t bring in a semi truck. We argued over this and he also hung up on me and screened my future calls. After all this, they lost 2 of my boxes. I am so furious with them that it’s not worth calling them in an attempt to locate these 2 boxes.

I have filed claims with the BBB as well as the Department of Transportation against Mid Moving and Storage. The response to the BBB claim was extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. They still have yet to resolve any claim. The DOT claim was filed more recently and will post an update pending the outcome of this claim. Again, and I can not stress this enough, DO NOT ever use Mid Moving and Storage.

Stay as far away from this company as you can. They showed up in a 26 foot van to make my move from Chicago to Atlanta. When I called dispatch to tell them that I had never moved my entire household in anything less than a 53 foot trailer, they told me it would fit. The people packing my goods were told by dispatch to «take everything apart and make it fit» according to the guys loading my household goods. When they came in the house, they immediately charged me an additional $ 2250 because I had extra inventory — and they hadn’t even looked. They arrived at 9:30AM, and at 11PM they had to rent another van to get the rest of our belongings. They didn’t finish until 1:30AM the next morning. I spoke with the owner of the company and when I questioned him he told me I was being unreasonable and was very disrespectful. The movers that loaded me up didn’t tape the hardware to the items they disassembled and now we have lamps, etc… that we can’t use. The one lamp they did assemble in Atlanta doesn’t work any more. They lost 40 boxes that they charged me $ 4.50 a piece for, and the owner won’t discuss it with me. I have filed complaints with the BBB, Illinois Department of Commerce, and the Illinois Consumer Protection Division. The only answer I got to my complaints was a form letter to the BBB from Mid Moving accusing me of violating my contract with them by not trying to settle with them before going to any other agency and it was signed «Legal — Mid Moving & Storage.» I doubt very seriously they have a Legal department, and I have never met a lawyer that wouldn’t sign his/​her name to this type of document. This business is a sham and should not be allowed to operate.

Since this is a very harsh review, I want to be fair about what does work at this company. I spoke to a dispatch manager named Daniel today about the claim. I spoke to Daniel several times in the course of the move (mostly to complain about the delay in delivery).
Daniel was highly helpful and courteous today, as he always has been. Furthermore, he always provided me detailed and accurate information when we spoke in June. So I would like to acknowledge that Daniel makes me think there is a good-​faith effort to provide honest service at Mid Moving, at least among some employees. This does not affect the result, unfortunately, but Daniel deserves a positive review personally.

The guys who came for the loading and packing were so good and we were happy with the total quote, but the problem start after that, they did not give us the driver number like they promised us.
We were moving to phoenix, it’s all complex here and you cannot drive semi-​truck into them, so they told us they need to rent a shuttle and that will cost us an extra 360 $, even they load the furniture into a shuttle in the first place, I tried to talk to them me and my wife so they can lower the price a little bit but they refused, so I told them that i will rent a Uhaul, but they said if you do that you will not receive the complete service (they will not unpack and reassembled the furniture).
They were so rude on the phone they put us 45 minutes on hold, and we could not agree on anything, so long story short we will rent a Uhaul and some guys to do the unloading/​unpacking, and it will cost us 135 $ only.
SO get my advice «DON’T GO WITH THIS COMPANY», go with Upack they are the best.
P.S: if you look in another place you will find some good review for this company, I tried to enter my experience on those website, but I couldn’t «BE CAREFUL».

25 Days… No furniture; no promised phone call from the sales supervisor; no way to get a hold of anyone…

If I could go negative stars I would. My consultant Leah at first was great. She answered all my questions and walked me through it. When the movers first arrived they too were great. I asked if I could help and they said no just sit back and relax. So I watched for the next three hours as they took what was already all boxed up and ready to go and added on about 1000x times the amount of tape needed and extra padding. I have no problem securing my items but I don’t think a pillow top mattress needs four extra pads. Do you? After all was said and done I looked at the itemized bill and almost fainted at the site of the extra $ 275 that they charged me for tape and padding. When I tried calling Leah to go over this she ignored both my calls. I signed all of the agreements because lets be honest. I needed to move that day and was all packed up. Afterwards I immediately emailed Leah to say that I don’t think it is fair to charge me the $ 275 and can we please talk about this. As day 6 approached with no e-​mail back, I called the customer service line. I would have had better luck talking to a rottweiler dog to get their chew toy then negotiate with the customer service rep. To say he was combative is an understatement.
When the movers arrived to my house, the contract that I had e-​mailed to me said that the first flight of stairs were free (up to 10 steps). However when the mover comes out of the truck and looks at the steps, he tells me that it is going to be an extra $ 75 for two steps. I told him that the contract that was e-​mailed to me had up to ten steps. He pulled out the one that I signed in Chicago were they changed it (to be honest when I was signing I was upset with being charged the $ 275 that I didn’t even think that they would change the fine print). They were slower than snails and were late. They were supposed to come at 7am and didn’t come till 10am and I was their first appointment of the day.
I WILL NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN AND YOU SHOULDN’T EITHER!

Be careful on how much tape they use (4 dollars a roll and they use it liberally) and the promises of delivery. (They said 2 – 3 business days for a cross country move and it took 13).There is definitely miscommunication between their sales people, dispatch, and the actual moving crews.
Actual moving crews were professional and quick. The rest of the business could benefit in a course on basic customer service. And dont be fooled by a snazzy website. They are no different than most other moving companies.

We had a last minute move across the country and we needed to find a reliable moving company with prices that we could afford, Mid Moving & Storage fit the bill.
We have moved before, but this was our first time actually hiring movers and moving all of our furniture, etc. across country. Our move was from Chicago, IL to San Jose, Ca. I’m not too sure how we got a call from this company, I think it was one of those many moving sites that I requested a quote from, but I’m glad that they called.
I got a call from Ella, and she was fantastic!
From that first call all the way up to the end of our move she was awesome. She really is the main reason why we wen’t with the company. She gave us piece of mind by going over every single aspect of the move with us. She was aware that it was our first time moving with movers so she explained everything smoothly. She even gave us some tips on moving as well. The main thing I liked was the fact that she was upfront with us. She told us from start to finish what things cost extra, etc. After our first phone call she had a quote for us, and gave us ample time to make a decision.
Of coure I was weary about making a final decision, I wanted to look around more and also look up reviews on the company. Surprisingly I didn’t find any reviews for he company on Unilocal,but I was able to look at reviews on different moving sites, and they have excellent reviews. So, of course we ended up going with them.
Here are the details of the move that we experienced, hoping that it can help people get a general idea of moving, and how this company works.
Days Before Move:
–Go over quote and ensure all items are accounted for on quote
–10% down payment for move (ensures quote price)
Day Before Move:
–Dispatch calls to let us know the arrival time for the movers for the next day.
Day of Move:
–Movers call 30 minutes before their arrival time.
–Movers came in, professional and friendly, and worked very fast to get everything loaded into the van. They wrapped all of our furniture items: couch, tv, dresser, tv stand, etc, And all of them survived the move with no scratches or broken pieces!
-*Note, they do charge for extra items that aren’t on the original quote and they also charge you for the tape that they use to wrap the moving blankets. You’ll need to account for that expense.
–Forman goes over the items list, and paperwork with you.
–50% of payment due
Day Before Items Arrive:
–Mover calls to ensure a drop off time and also confirms the remaining balance.
Day Items Arrive:
–Forman goes over each item and marks them off the list
–Remaining 40% of payment is due. Cash or USPS Money Order Only.
All in all. Great company to move with!
The only disappointment I had was the fact that I was not aware of the tape that I would be charged for on the day of the move. Other then that, awesome. Movers were very professional both on the day of pick up and the day of drop off. My items arrived in the same condition that they had left! Loved the piece of mind that I had with my items. Ella was great, and I had dispatch’s number so that I could get in contact with the driver if need be. But they work really fast! They said our ETA was about 7 – 14 regular days, but we got our stuff in 5 days. I was totally surprised that our stuff had arrived that fast! I didn’t even have time to worry about it!
