Smithfield Visitor Center

They were great to us and my family from out of town. They also helped my son who is 8 go on a treasure hunt for flying pigs he was so excited and got free ice cream at the end of it!

staff is very willing to help
while you’re there check out the different art programs exhibits in classes that they offer

What a cool place to check out. I did not make this my first stop in Smithfiled, but from experience when you are checking out a new place it wise to do so.
Everyone in the store immediately welcomed me and the kids, then asked if we were from out of the area. They offered to provide information on the area and answer any questions.
It is also a store that has local artisan goods such as jewelry and art. The kids were most interested in watching a woman complete an oil painting. She was great with my children and answered all of their questions as she worked. They also have branded Smithfield trinkets available too.
What I liked most was all the details and photos of the local history of the county and town. Really high quality pictures are in one room that shows Smithfield’s most treasured homes. Not all of them have been restored and one can only hope that it happens one day. The home that we visited just an hour before, Windsor Castle was one that was on the wall.
My recommendation if heading to Smithfield for the first time is definitely to start at the Smithfield Visitor Center. You will not be disappointed you did.

Great place for getting information both for local attractions and those a bit further away. The staff is friendly and helpful.
The visitor center is also co-​located with an art gallery (The Arts Center @ 319) featuring local artists.
