This firm recovered money for my father on multiple occasions from various government agencies that owed him thousands of dollars. My dad had no idea about this because he is only fluent in Korean. I also had no idea because previously it had been my understanding that any government agency in this country was supposed to notify their citizen taxpayers if they were due any money.
In other words, I wrongly believed any government agency must automatically return any money they owe to someone that has overpaid them or has been overcharged or wrongfully charged.
The only reason I deduct one star is because all government related info is available for free or at low cost to any member of the general public. I told my dad I could have recovered this money for him at no cost to him but I chose not to. The downside is that this law firm took a hefty third (or 33%) out of my dad’s refund checks. The silver lining in this financial dark cloud is that my dad sees the value of his daughter.
At first this firm sent us a letter in the mail. It looked like a scam (con) artist had designed it so I told my dad it was junk mail and to throw it away. Their next letter to us looked like it came from a real law firm so I told my dad to go ahead and fill out their agreement form.
They were really good at communicating with me and following up with me because sometimes I’m really good at forgetting deadlines. I think I get that from both my parents but mostly my dad. (This is why one editor complained to me that I was «frequently late» with my book reviews but that’s another story.)
Although we didn’t get our money back within weeks like another Unilocal reviewer claimed my dad did get his refund checks within months. These type of government refunds have deadlines (statute of limitations) so if you believe any government agency owes you money (because you overpaid or got overcharged or wrongfully charged) then you may want to follow up on your gut feeling as soon as possible.
HOWEVER:
According to Connie M. of Mulvane, KS this law firm retrieved money for her from over 30 years ago! And, according to Sharon P. of Eagle, ID they retrieved money for her from a 1998 bankruptcy! So it appears each state has different time limits for government refunds. Apparently, CA government sucks even more than KS or ID!
My dad will never make a good CPA or even a good bookkeeper as number crunching and bean counting is not his first gear even though he is an absent-​minded genius with a MENSA IQ score of 150 points. Although my IQ is 40 points lower than his I know I would make a good bookkeeper at the very least.
(As a side note, MENSA tests favor male strengths like the hard sciences such as physics, chemistry, geometry, math aka number crunching and bean counting, not female strengths like the soft sciences such as social and emotional intelligence aka interpersonal skills. That’s why I find the situation ironic but not surprising. If my dad were fluent in English I believe he wouldn’t need either this law firm or my help with the family business the way he does now).
In spite of their hefty fee, my dad still got back thousands of dollars from various government agencies that neither he or I knew about! As far as I know, they have recovered everything that they know about.

When I first received a phone message from Matthew Zettley from this firm about collecting unclaimed money that I was owed, I assumed it was a scam. My husband agreed and we deleted the message and left it at that. A few days later we got a letter from them which seemed legitimate, and so I looked them up. I found positive reviews and only one complaint against them with the Better Business Bureau, which was found in their favor. We contacted them and hired them to retrieve money we didn’t even know we were owed from the government. This company is professional and legitimate, and they do what they say they are going to do. After initially contacting me based on money that was owed in my name, they then searched my husband’s name and SSN and found another couple of thousand dollars that they were able to claim on our behalf. In total, they found nearly $ 6000 in unclaimed refunds for us. I was very impressed.
I cannot recommend Dilks & Knopik highly enough. They returned to us several thousand dollars which would have otherwise gone unclaimed. They did it in a timely and professional manner and we are very grateful to them.

This company is great! They helped me recover money I didn’t even know was owed to me. Very professional and I got my money within a week! They were very informative and helped explain the whole process and what to expect. I would recommend working with them!

This company offers a great service of dealing with government agencies to get your money reissued.

I would give 0 stars. Beware of THIS LAW FIRM. I cancelled my service agreement with this attorney by fax & email, my check for unclaimed funds were inadvertently sent the attorney by mistake by US Attorneys office & this attorney has refused to refund my money when we spoke about cancelling this service agreement and he received my fax cancelling the agreement. He will not return my calls and hasn’t refunded my money. this was all done a month prior to the date the US attorneys office issued payment. this is unethical. I have filed a complaint with the US Attorney Generals office, Washington State Bar Association & the BBB. Avoid this company at all costs.
