Massage Envy – Solana Beach

I was having some neck & shoulder pain & Scott was just the therapist to relieve it. The massage was such a wonderful experience & very effective. I highly recommend Scott.
He is very careful to understand where you are feeling discomfort and is knowledgeable in how to treat it.

Very unpleasant experience happened few days back in this location. 1. therapist hands smell like cigarettes 2. Still in shock. Masseuse walked out in middle of massage saying we are not good match. Upfront would not offer credit nor apology nor «would you like me to book another appointment «? Left with serious sour feeling in my stomach trying to figure out what just happened. Never experienced such a bad customer service. If we are not good match can I cancel my membership? Not going there ever again.

I carry a lot of tension in my upper back, neck and left shoulder. One day I woke up in excruciating, debilitating pain and knew I had to get a massage immediately. I looked on Unilocal for nearby massage studios and called up Massage Envy. They were able to get me in that morning, which was fantastic and it released a lot of pain I was feeling in my chest, neck, arm and back.
I have seen a few therapists at Massage Envy and Brad is my favorite because he’s good at what he does, there’s no small talk and he gets down to business. If you play sports, work out 5 – 7 days a week and need your kinks worked out, he’s your guy.
Unfortunately, I have also had a therapist that smoked and I could smell it on his hands for the entire hour of my massage.
In my opinion, Massage Envy isn’t a place to look for a connection with your massage therapist, nor can you expect genuine, earthly care that you can find at some of the smaller studios around town. There’s no lavender or eucalyptus scented oils or heating pads (unless you want to pay more). It is a very structured, routine massage. The therapists see 7 – 8 clients a day, 5 days a week.

I want to start off by saying if you go here, you should use Michelle. She is fantastic! However, if you are trying to make appointments or even just fill out paperwork, the front desk staff is not great! In calling to cancel one appointment, they canceled all my appts. Imagine my surprise when I showed up for a regular appt and not only was it canceled, all of my appointments were. I will not be going back, which is unfortunate because Michelle is great :)

I must say I am QUITE impressed with this Massage Envy. Gina was so helpful and accommodating.
Today I had three hours set aside for massage, a special treat.
Maurice is a one of a kind massage therapist whose hands I feel must be Hawaiian because they radiate so much peace and happiness. The massage from him today was therapeutic, soothing and incredibly effective. But also it was more, in the form of pure Art, it was inspirational. When art connects us to a greater sense of humanity, extraordinary is possible.
Maurice’s massage was indeed extraordinary.
Then during my second massage, Brad knowledgeably took the time to really dig into fine details of my hands and feet. No easy task, as those are tiny areas and can be tiring I am certain. He did an excellent job!
I feel so much better after these massages. I am grateful I went.

Fraudulent charges on my credit card. I will let you know if and how long it takes them to refund my money. I signed up for a year of massages and they have been charging me for a year and half after I called and cancelled on April 8^th 2015 after getting an email about their lawsuit. Now they are claiming I did not cancel… wow!

They emailed stating they refunded 3 of the months and will post in 3 – 5 business days There were at least 4 charges that I did not authorize. So I am waiting to hear back about the other charge (s). Which I informed them of this evening. I change my review from 1 star to 3 for getting it handled the same night when the manager was not working today (they got a hold of her twice for me).

I received a fantastic massage from Graciella. She gave me the chance to explain what I hoped to gain from my massage, and then got right to work as to give me the benefit of the full time allowed which I appreciated! She concentrated on everything I had on my wish-​list (the list is lengthy as I suffer from chronic pain due to an injury) and in addition to the trouble spots I pointed out, Graciella was able to find and then focus on areas that also have been indirectly negatively affected by the injury. In just one hour, I felt I received the most thorough massage I could have hoped for and more. Thank you!

Massage envy is a great place the people I work with are great and easy mesh with relaxing but know how to get the job done for the best of our clients and the clinic! BIG UPS to my fellow bodyworkers

Love this place! I was sold on joining right away because of the convenient location, affordable price & the fact that it makes me do something good for myself every month. Signed my boyfriend up, too. Have had four massages each so far, getting better every time! My favorite therapists are Jon & Tyler, my boyfriend’s faves are Maurice & Larry.
The only minor complaint I have is the extreme membership hard-​sell by the front desk staff. Took my sister for a massage when she was visiting, she loved it, but is not in a position to commit to a membership. She was so relaxed after her treatment, but felt sort of beaten up at the desk afterward trying every way possible to politely say no.
I didn’t need any convincing … very happy with my membership!

My make up massage was very good. Therapist was very knowledgeable and had great hands. Massage Envy made good on my previous horrible experience… but the pushy membership tactics will forever keep me away.

Called this AM for 2 appointments at the same time. Was able I book by noon o clock! Both of our massages were amazing!!! Brad and Jon were wonderful! Thank you for making my bday special. I feel great!!!

Graciela is the best massage therapist I have ever worked with. I suffer from migraine headaches and she has taken the time to really work with me and has helped me so much. She is a true healer. She is very professional and is very passionate about her job and her clients.

I AM a fan of Massage Envy and the membership does work and we have been members for well over 5 yrs HOWEVER I can say this! each location is totally different as they are franchises and the Solana Beach continues to disappoint and continues to have really BAD front desk/​reservation people. Dumb as stumps when you call, screw up your reservations, and say Sorry not my fault I didn’t make the reservation for you and can’t do anything except say Sorry after we scheduled the ENTIRELY wrong day and have no openings! Asked that a Manager speak to me, none available, asked that a manager call me, its been 48 hrs and NOTHING no one cares about service at this location avoid at all costs. not to mention the waiting room is a joke and they FINALLY got rid of their horrible outdoor furniture but it still is the pits compared to Encinitas. Just go to Encinitas if you are in North County as the problems are WAY less and the waiting room is so nice and normally the service is above par.
Now that I have vented about Solana Beach, I will disagree with all the posts about bad massages, we have had EXCELLENT massages and you have to be VERY specific when asking for reservations. we ALWAYS say deep tissue NO Swedish as we want work done not pampering. if you want it a specific way say so. but the levels of massages have been quite good, some of course are always better than others that is just how any business is but overall for 5 yrs we have been very happy with massages and we have had 1000s everywhere.
the overall atmosphere of rooms are good and facilities are always clean. we believe in the company and love that when we are out of town we can go to any locations with our membership and still get our free month or current monthly fee charged to us. have used them in AZ a lot and always had good ones there as well

I saw the $ 49 intro special in the paper. Walked in on Saturday to make an appointment… phones ringing off the hook, people being placed on hold and 3 people behind me trying to check in. I should have known this place wasn’t organized. I signed up and included the $ 12 hot/​cold extra. I never got it. «it was in your record but your therapist didn’t see it».
On Sunday morning in the paper they have an ad for a free sugar foot scrub with the massage. I took the ad in only to be told «you can’t use that… you have to let us know in advance». I read the ad and asked them to show me where that t&c was. After I pressed them: «your therapist is not trained on the foot scrub». If they had said that at the beginning, I would have understood. However, it seems that in the 90 minutes while I was having a massage they could have gotten another person ready to give me the foot scrub and deliver on their promise.
A bad first experience and there won’t be a second for me!!!

After being a member of Message Envy for about two years, I decided to end the membership, and cancelled the credit card which they had on file. I called to say I was cancelling. At the time, I was completely paid up and had at least one unused message available, but which I did not intend to use.
They have called several times to say I need to update the credit card and I have responded by reminding them I cancelled the membership. Today (6 months later) I was told that in order to cancel, I need to go to the shop and cancel in writing. However, they will not accept my written cancellation until I have paid for the 6 months when they did not have my credit card! I am being held hostage. It is, apparently, the position of Message Envy, that they can continue to charge someone for services not rendered, even though they have been told several times to cancel a membership.

Just wanted to say, I believe the «spa» hires people with little or no experience. I went in for a message and asked for whomever had been there the longest. The gal they set me up with had supposedly been there 15 years. Hello? The spa has only been at this location a couple of years or so.
Never have I had a less relaxing message. She kept having me turn over to every ¼ angle. Yes really! How do you relax when you rotate like a chicken on the BBQ? For the most part, it felt like she was putting lotion on me with her dry gross hands.
A couple of weeks later I called to let the mgr know how It went. All she cared about was setting me up on a plan to come in once a month.
Then I got a personal call from the masseuse herself on her cel! I did not take the call.
Yikes!!!
ALSO– They only give you a 45 minute massage not the hour!!! I got there early, had time to change etc, but they charge you 15 minutes to change clothes etc. Who does that???

Best facial ever by Haley!!! She’s amazing, and I highly recommend her. Excellent facial treatment and superb arm/​hand/​neck massage. I’d give her 10 stars if I could.
Also recommend Brandy if you’re looking for a massage. She really works out my back, better than any masseuse I’ve encountered (and I’ve seen many). Another 5 star rating!

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Spa like massage at ½ the price.
I joined the the plan which does roll over if not used that month. So once a month I get a massage for $ 59.00. Can’t beat that right? well then you get to come back anytime that month for $ 39.00. I now get a massage every week for a fraction of what I use to pay. I have a neck injury and this has been essential in my recovery. The therapist are certified and have great hands. This is not a scam for those who will come at least once a month.
My husband is an attorney and has reviewed the contract. You can roll over to the next month and you can even get out of the contract if you move or if you have a Doctors note. So if you are thinking about it print a coupon and go try it out for $ 39.00 your first time. That’s what I did and now I am hooked.

SCAM ALERT: Google «massage envy scam»
Wow, I haven’t been ripped off like this in a long time. I wish I would have googled the company first. Do yourself a favor and google «massage envy scam». There are literally thousands of complaints.
Bottom line is they sell you on becoming a member, which they claim has no commitment and just get’s you lower prices, like a Costco membership or AAA membership. But then after you sign it you’re locked into buying a massage every month for a year, and if you don’t use the massages you loose them but still pay for them. And if you don’t cancel after the first year they just keep charging you monthly, until you go into the store or fax in a cancellation, you can’t even do it over the phone!
I was told that signing their contract doesn’t result in any commitment and I can buy massages whenever I want and there is no minimum. I was foolish enough not to thoroughly read the contract (although I did quickly browse over it and saw nothing about not being able to cancel and having to buy a massage every month). I typically trust businesses. But thanks to Massage Envy I’ll be much more careful from now on.
You know what else just screams SHADY, if you don’t use the massages in the first year they just disappear (unless you keep your membership and keep paying monthly). So basically you pay them money, they have no cost in relation to it, and then they just decide to keep your money and give you nothing in return. How could they possibly justify expiring massages you paid for??? This is not a perishable food item. I asked their manager and she agreed it didn’t seem right but that’s «just corporate policy».
I’ve given them lot’s of opportunities to make this right. I’ve explained my case over and over. The only response I get is «you signed the contract, I’ll check with corporate to see if there is anything I can do and call you back» then I never get a call back. So after almost a full year of this I’m finally venting online. I feel bad bashing any company but this one really does deserve it. Hopefully they’ll read this and realize the damage they do by having aggressive sales tactics and not being lenient in letting customers out of the contract, especially ones who didn’t fully understand what they were signing up for.
I’m an entrepreneur and it really pisses me off to see people starting businesses and somewhere along the line deciding to allow unethical policies in order to help their business grow. Build a company that makes customers happy and your business will grow, you don’t need to push them into contracts and not let them out. In the long run these shady policies will bring the company to ruins.
