Specialties
Susan Swartz MFT specializes in working with Individuals and Couples. She helps Individuals eliminate the negative belief systems that keep them locked in unhappiness. She uses EMDR, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and Relational Psychodynamic Therapy to do this.
Susan helps Couples improve communication and strengthen their friendship. She helps them find ways to regain the romance and passion. She uses Gottman Method Couples Counseling to do this.
Susan brings a great deal of experience to her clients. A Therapist for many years, she has worked in Hospitals, Residential Facilities, Intensive Outpatient settings, Count Mental Health, and non-profit Community Health Clinics.
Susan also has a tremendous mind-body background as a certified yoga teacher and long-time meditator, so she brings the latest, most powerful mind-body techniques to her clients when that fits with what the client is wanting.
What is difficult to convey about Susan is that she’s real, she understands, and she really cares. She has a magnificent heart that helps clients more than any technique or therapy method. Research into what makes therapy effective finds that it’s the Relationship with the Therapist that is curative; and this is truly Susan’s forté.
History
Established in 2011.
Susan started her career working with victims and perpetrators of domestic violence. This is where she first learned about the predictable nature of trauma. It’s also where she saw people using addictions to stop their over-active minds and blunt their painful memories. Susan spent the next few years working with the severely mentally ill, learning what depression, anxiety, and addiction (among other things) looked like in their advanced or unchecked states. She also spent a lot of time working with children and families, seeing what children needed to be healthy and well-adjusted, and what things put them on a different path.
Susan then began working with Marines and Sailors dealing with multiple deployments and the effects of war. Certified in EMDR, she immediately saw that this powerful technique could help people quickly heal from even the worst types of trauma and abuse. She started using EMDR more, helping clients heal more deeply and more quickly from their pain.

Susan S.
Business Owner
Susan has been helping people for many years now, either as a yoga teacher or as a therapist. She believes the most important thing she can possibly do is help reduce people’s suffering. She has been there, so she wants people to know they’re not alone, and to know there’s hope and a way out of the pain, and that a better, happier, more peaceful way of life is possible.
Susan has found that people heal when they can talk freely while they’re in the presence of someone who is attuned to them who cares about them. Susan tries to give her clients the time and safety they need so they can get things off their chest. Susan also helps clients re-visit their deep pain and sit in it until it passes, since Susan knows from her work with her many, many clients that this is the path to healing. At the same time, Susan isn’t afraid to «tell it like it is». She helps clients see truths they sometimes don’t want to see, if that’s what’s needed for their safety.
