One star for the location and charm but where’s the flavor and the good customer service? Felt like my flavorless chocolate dip was thrown at me tonight. I know it was busy and your job must be tedious, but how about a little courtesy(like not avoiding my request for an extra napkin)? Will skip the calories next time and find a place where the ice cream has flavor.

There are few things better than ending a day of sunny summer fun than with a big ol’ ice cream cone. In fact, I am always on the look out for ice cream places wherever we go, and yesterday was no exception. My husband and I headed to Cone Island after dinner, a good 1 — 1.5 hours before it closed. They have a very reasonable $.75 kiddie size, $ 1.75 small cone and $ 3.50 regular cone. Shakes are also available for similar prices. My husband and I ordered a regular chocolate cone with chocolate sprinkles(sprinkles and all toppings are an extra $.50) and a small chocolate shake. The ice cream was nice and tasty, and nothing different than what we would expect. The shake tasted pretty much like the soft serve just liquified a bit — more watery in taste than creamy. Anyway, the big reason why this gets bumped to 2 stars is because of our sales transaction. Our total for these two items was $ 7.50. My husband handed over $ 8, to which the cashier asked, «Do you have any quarters? We’re out.» «No…», my husband replied, «I just have cash.» «Well, we don’t have any change, so do you mind not getting any change back?» —blank stare from my husband. «Do I mind? Well, yeah, I do mind.» «We have one quarter, so we can give you that. Is that ok?» «So you can give me a quarter back but not the full fifty cents I’m owed.» «Yeah. Is that ok?» «Whatever, fine, sure.» This place is cash only, so you would expect that they would have plenty means to make change for people. Also, this was well before closing time, and there were plenty of people lined up before us, so that makes me wonder just how many other people were going to get jipped out of their change. But seriously, being out a quarter or two is not the issue here — if a business can’t make the change, shouldn’t they be responsible for taking the hit? We did not appreciate that they assumed that we would(and really gave us no other choice). Not a way to win fans, Cone Island.

I don’t think it gets much better than eating some ice cream on a hot and muggy day while walking along the water. The ice cream is your generic soft serve, but the location pretty much cranks the ranking higher than normal for this type of treat. It is cash only, which is pretty inconvenient. I definitely recommend their crunch coat topping, which is a «mash up of peanuts, bits of cone, and various colored sprinkles.» They open at noon and close at dark.

Great spot for ice cream — right on the Pax River boardwalk in Solomon’s Island. As others mentioned — cash only is the only down side.

This is the best thing on the island! Get your sweetie, doggie and the kiddies and head over to the cone. Order your soft serve cone with sprinkles, dipped in chocolate, or plain. Kids can have tiny cones then play on the nearby jungle gym. You and your sweetie can hold hands and walk along the pier at sunset. Even spot the dog can walk you along the pier and sip from the doggie fountain. But get there before it starts getting dark(when they close) and be sure you bring cash.

Soft serve mecca in solomons — it opens at noon, so no early morning cones, but if you can make it to midday in the summer heat, it’s totally worth it. they have caramel, chocolate and cherry magic shell for dipping, or my fave of sprinkles! Sundaes and cups are available, too. but don’t you really want a cake cone? c’mon! Note — Cash only! bust out your emergency five dollar bill, and treat yourself and your mate to a frosty summer treat!
