History

Established in 2003.

The Patuxent Adventure Center (PAC) opened in March of 2003 to serve the needs of outdoor sport enthusiasts in the Southern Maryland area. Our professional staff has over 40 years of combined bicycle shop experience while our full time employees were trained at either the United Bicycle Institute and/​or Specialized. Our main lines include Specialized, Litespeed, Diamondback, Raleigh and Salsa for bikes and our kayak and paddle board lines include Current Designs, Hurricane, Malibu, Tahoe and Liquid Shredder. Co-​owner Dave Lane was a former Marine H46 pilot who then provided consulting services to the Navy via Bearing Point before opening the PAC in 2003. Co-​owner Trish Lane is a World Class swimmer competing in (2) World Cup swims and the Ironman in 2006 and 2008. Our goal is to help our customers reach their desires of outdoor activity — no matter how fast, slow, long or short, we’re here to help.

These folks are no nonsense professional who care about the cycling community. They take care of the rider too. Their prices are fantastic, and their service is top notch. I highly recommend them for all your cycling needs. Oh, they also have Kyacking services.

No brainer here, the staff is super knowledgeable and passionate about their jobs /​service. Picked our rental kayak up in the Holiday Inn where we stayed. Great 5 hour day trip in the local waters.
Here’s a tip… we found a vacant sandy beach on opposite side of Hidden Harbor Café to pull up our kayaks and had a great lunch.
Didn’t give 5 starts bc advance reservation did not get to local staff, about an hour late getting on wAter, but they did a nice job recovering from that miscommunication w the service.

In addition to helpful and friendly service helping you find a new bike, they also host a few Craigslist used bikes. The parking lot is pretty long and wide, so it’s a decent place to make sure everything is working.
Watch out for the loose gravel at one end of the parking lot. Thankfully they didn’t notice that I slid on the gravel and dropped a new bike I was testing out. Unfortunately, I can never come here again out of shame and fear.

This place is simply awesome. Great bike shop, even better people. Incredible expertise from every employee. I’m greeted like an old friend every time I walk in the door. These guys are more than passionate about cycling and are always willing to share their knowledge and experience.

So these guys sell bikes and repair them, but there is no rental. You can rent paddle boards and kayaks.

These guys are smug and arrogant. They ripped off a friend, replacing parts that didn’t need to be replaced, and arguing with him about what his bike needed. I’ve been cycling for over 13 years, and they treated me like an idiot when I told them what I wanted done to my own bike. I was visiting the area without my bike tools and needed just a few adjustments. They tried to tell me that my bike needed a complete overhaul. REALLY? They are really into themselves, and show little-​to-​know respect to their customers. Seriously, JUST STAY AWAY. It’s a bit of a hike, but the Bike Doctor in Waldorf, Maryland is certainly worth the trip!
