Specialties
Wilderness Studio is a professional photography studio. We have a large shooting studio that can accommodate large projects. Our specialty is custom services to artists and to other photographers. We digitize paintings and drawings using the Better Light system (245 megapixels) and we make reproductions on Fine Art rag papers and canvas. Large format Giclée reproductions and restorations of old, damaged photographs are all done in-house. We print up to 44 inches width on luster, gloss, metallic, Fine Art papers, and on canvas. Gallery wrap canvas prints are done by hand in our studio.
Our studio is located just north of Iowa City, Iowa — in a forest on Sugar Bottom Road.
Please come and see us for Commercial Photography, Giclée reproductions, Fine Art printing, film scanning and the restoration of damaged portraits and photographs,.
History
Established in 1976.
Wilderness Studio has been located on Sugar Bottom Road, just north of Iowa City, since 1976. Over the years we have provided the highest quality of photographic services to Iowans — from film to digital. Wilderness Studio is owned and operated by Richard Sjolund (Dick), a former professor at the University of Iowa, who was a pioneer in digital photography technology. Dick is a scientist, an artist, a photographer, and an educator. Mostly, he just plain loves anything to do with photography — and has for about 50 years.
