Tony and his father are great, honest mechanics.
When I had a leak in the water pump of my 2006 GTI Tony advised me to bring it back to where it had been done previously and saved me a tonne of money as a result. I would have brought it here in the first place if I’d known about them sooner!
When I needed a tune up I called in advance and arranged it, but when I arrived they couldn’t see any booking. This was my first ever visit, they gave me the benefit of the doubt and they managed to fit me in.
From what I can tell they’re big VW fans. Plenty of VW memorabilia and cuttings of sweet looking modded Golf and GTI models around the reception area. This is always a good thing!
I can’t praise these guys enough.

Tony was very rude to my mother, yelling at her that he was too busy to take her car instead of just saying it like a normal human being. All i wanted was for him to be polite, but that was obviously impossible for a nobody like him.

Brought my 2003 Volkswagen Passat in yesterday to have a tune-​up and oil change after coming by the day before to discuss if they had time to get it done. Spoke with Tony that day and he said he could do both for $ 300.
After the service was completed, he called me and I reminded him of what he said for price the day before. At first he was confused, because he couldn’t remember saying that and had written down $ 370 after the work was completed. But he did the honorable thing and just took me at my word and only charged me $ 300.
It’s been said many times before in other reviews on here, but these guys just personify «integrity» and know their stuff backwards and forwards. I enthusiastically recommend them to anyone with a Volkswagen. Rock on, County Auto Repair!

County Auto Repair has been my garage of choice since 2006 for maintaining my VW. Their pricing is very honest, excellent communication, and I’ve never had an issue with their repairs. They’re especially expert with Volkswagens.

I had a great experience with County Auto. After the Subaru dealership tried to charge me nearly $ 1000 to get my alternator replaced I took the car to Tony. Not only did they get my car working again (within three hours of dropping it off), but it cost me a fraction of what the dealership quoted me. Such honest (and nice guys). Can’t say enough!

Came to them with an exhaust leak. I’ve had issues like this in previous cars and had historically received a wide and often questionable range of quotes. And like a lot of people I didn’t have a mechanic in the area, and found County based on reviews.
They squeezed me in to a busy day, made it known to me that it wasn’t anything serious and they wouldn’t be doing superfluous repairs, and got it done at a price I thought was very fair. Not only that, but when I picked up the car I noticed that they had fixed a dent in my front bumper.
Good work done at a fair price, and no last minute surprises on the bill. Please take notes every other shop in Massachusetts. THIS is how you get my repeat business.

I’d like to echo the comments from the other Unilocalers. Taking my car to County Auto Repair is one of the best decisions I’ve made. Tony and his dad were super friendly, knowledgeable and patient.
My car has an issue with the exhaust/​hanger which allegedly was ‘taken care’ of by another mechanic in Southie. Tony not only fixed the problem at a fraction of the cost, but went the extra mile by inspecting the rest of my car to make sure the problem didn’t stem from some other issue.
Upon dropping off my car I asked the best way to get to the T — Tony offered to call me a cab. I ended up walking to Sullivan (it’s less than 10 minutes), but it was so sweet for him offer. And then upon picking-​up my car later that day, it began to monsoon. Do you think Tony let me walkout in the rain without an umbrella??? Absolutely not. Again, he offered to walk my to my car so that I wouldn’t get soaked. Just a stand-​up kind of guy.
I left the shop feeling relieved that I didn’t pay a hundreds of dollars. And I certainly didn’t feel like I was being taken advantage of. County Auto Repair has my business.

CountyAuto is the absolute best shop around. Tony is honest, always reasonable, fast and goes the extra mile. We even bought our daughter a VW because we knew Tony would take care of it should there be an issue. I have moved out of Somerville, but I will continue to bring my car to him, even though it is totally inconvenient.

They are honestly the best mechanics I have ever experienced! They are super honest, and willing to do whatever it takes to save you money which is rare! They have done so many things that they really didnt have to by any means to help me out. I would say what they are here but I dont want to put them on the spot with other people. All I can say is they are a very old school neighborhood mechanic and treat you like a friend not a pile of money.

County Auto Repair is the best. They are extremely honest and more than helpful. I have a Passatt and they have always fixed my car with no problems and very quickly. I won’t take my car elsewhere.

Absolutely top notch! I have a Volkswagen and Tony is crazy about VW’s, he knows every inch of them. He went the extra mile to find the best possible prices on parts, and for a big suspension repair job, he charged me a VERY reasonable flat fee for his labor. Based on my research, I got an incredibly good deal all around. And wow, does he work FAST! I’ve never had any problems with the parts he’s fixed, and he always says if I do encounter a problem, just bring it back.
Tony, Anthony, and the others at County Auto are very friendly in person and on the phone, and very straightforward and honest. They’ve never talked down to me even though I’m a woman who obviously knows next to nothing about cars. It has the feel of a family business, but a very efficient one where everyone is extremely skillful at what they do. It’s so great to finally have a trustworthy, excellent, and inexpensive mechanic! Another wonderful experience with County Auto, and the work from last year has been flawless. If you live anywhere near these guys, you should be going.

I found these guys through another review site, and really can’t rave enough about them. They’re honest to a fault, as when my catalytic converter died, they told me I should go to the dealer ASAP because there was a recall expiring in a week and I could get the cat replaced for free. Super friendly, very accomodating, fast turnaround. And HONEST.

They specialize in VW’s and other imports, and I am happy to give them my business.
