Dilboy Memorial Swimming and Wading Pool

Lots of space, yet some clientele can be on the rough and tumble/​uncouth side. Management ranks often filled with college age kids whom are reluctant to discipline boorish behavior.

What a great find during a hot summer! Love that it’s so affordable and clean. Only down side is there are no chairs and you can’t pack lunch– but it’s still well worth the $ 2 to jump in and cool off!

Went there with a small group of kids, and they had a good time. Adults pay $ 2 to get in, and kids $ 1. That’s nothing! Mostly kids and their parents hanging out here, as there is not much to attract people besides the pool itself.
Dilboy looks pretty new and clean. There is a very sizable big pool, which is 3.5′ at the sides and gets to about 5 – 6′ deep in the center. The separate wading pool is a good size, and goes from about 1′ deep to about 2′ deep in the middle. The pools are in good shape, and there was not stuff floating in the water.
The dressing rooms/​showers are all concrete, but there are separate bathroom, shower, and changing areas. Nothing provided, other than hot and cold water, so bring your own shampoo and shower stuff. They could use some benches or something in there, as there are limited places to sit.
One thing to note, there is basically no shade or seating in the pool area, so you should bring a mat or towel to sit on. Also, no food or drink is allowed except water.
We went on a summer weekday, and the pool was pretty empty at opening time, but got rather crowded by the time we left, around 2pm.

Excellent pool; very clean. Seems to have been updated in the past few years. Jill, the manager, is friendly and the price of admission is totally reasonable. An excellent place for a family outing.

We went on a cool August day and it was not crowded at all because of it. Well kept, clean, and large. No place to sit other than on the pavement, however. I can imagine this place gets VERY crowded on a hot July day, too. If sunny and not too crowded, a nice place to spend some time.

I live about a 5 minute walk from this place and you can imagine how excited I was to discover it last summer. Its a well run public pool. $ 1 for kids, $ 2 for adults… I guess it used to be free but still, not bad. The big thing I’ve noticed this year is that they are allowing people to bring in their beach chairs. This is HUGE! It did put a damper on your pool day having to lay down/​sit on the concrete. Now, worry not people… bring your favorite beach chair and relax away. They still don’t allow food/​coolers, but that’s fine… I can understand why. Lots of people picnic just outside the pool and come back in. Also very strict «no head-​first diving» rule, don’t ask how we found out.
Also: kiddie pool included, is fenced away from the big pool. Free parking :)

Love this pool! It’s clean and well taken care of. It does get crowded with kids but theres «adult» swim from 12 – 12:30 m-​f where its empty.

I’ve lived so close to this pool for so many years and didn’t find out about it until this summer. Oh the sweet relief of cool refreshing water that I’ve been missing all my Somervillian life!
Dilboy pool is a really great way to beat the summer heat while having a cheap day out in the sun close to home. You can get their via public transportation by taking the 80, 87, or 88 bus, or drive to the pool and park in the lot in the back. The nice thing about this pool is that it is really big and not to full either. Mostly families visit, and they have a shallow wading pool for the tiny kiddies if you have any in tow. With 5 life guards on duty, and the deep end reaching 4 ft. 8 inches, you can feel safe in just about any inch of the pool. They also have a male and female dressing room equipped with toilets, showers, and dressing cubicles, so you can change on site if you prefer.
A few changes to keep in mind that we heard from some of the regulars and confirmed with a lifeguard:
1) Chairs are no longer allowed at the pool, so bring a towel and be prepared to plop yourself down on the concrete.
2) They are now charging a $ 2 entrance fee if you go to the pool between 11 am and 1 pm. After this peak time it is free.
3) This isn’t really a change, but something to be aware of if you are visiting for the first time with lots of people. The entrance to the pool is through the dressing rooms, which means your party will be briefly separated until you are on the pool side.

I like this pool. It’s free. It’s clean, and a great way to beat the summer heat without getting out of the city.
The only downside is the dressing room/​bathroom area is really old and in need of repair. And I guess a bit smelly.
They allow floatation devices for kids, like noodles and life jackets & they even allow balls and boats and such.
