Pros: they fit me in super last minute
they were friendly and chatty
I liked my cut and blow out, was a good quality job for a girl who BADLY needed her ends trimmed
Cons: The person cutting my hair seemed a little unprofessional (got water down my neck while washing my hair, took a call during my blow-​out and left the brush in my hair)
Overcharged me — I was looking for a cheap cut, ~30 — 35, and I would add a tip, but ended up being 50 — more than I wanted to pay, and more than the Unilocal price bracket suggested it would cost

This place used to be the most awesome place in the planet. It was homy, very cheap, friendly, and people who really enjoyed doing their job. Yes, there was very little English, but at those prices, who cares? Now, there is new management, and they have jacked up prices like crazy. I can understand increasing prices by 20, even 40%, but 100%? Some of the earlier women have left, and there is a guy who is not very polite. On the plus side, they are trying to upgrade, so I guess there is a price to be paid for that. But I wish they had stayed cheap, homy, and polite!

DO NOT GO HERE! Even if you desperately need a Brazilian because you are getting married tomorrow!
This is my horror story:
So it’s Friday afternoon and I my Saturday night plans get moved to Friday night. I need to get a Brazilian. I call the place I usually go to, but their booked so I start looking around and find this place. They seem to have good reviews, so I think «Why not?» I love finding new gems. So I head there after work, walk in, the place is empty and the five women standing around that seem to work there are all staring at me. Awkward. I follow the woman down stairs, the place is filthy! I walk into the room and the woman doesn’t leave the room to let me get undress like they usually do. Again, awkward! She starts the Brazilian: no baby powder, the wax is too hot, she breaks half the hair, the other half she just doesn’t get…
I went home BURNT, covered in wax and had to spend like 45 minutes finishing the job myself. I was not pleased!

Don’t go there. I went yesterday for a Brazilian wax with Teresa, she was horrible. She was brutal, she was trying to get it all out it once, not gentle, she kept going back to the same spot and caused my legs to bruise, she was rude and complaining she didn’t like the wax the owner bought.
And top it off, she said I could use some wipes to get the excess wax off of me, when the wipes touched my skin I screamed, they had alcohol on them and the pores were all open from waxing. It was horrible!!! She didn’t apologize for bruising me, for making me scream in pain from the alcohol, just turned around and walk out of the room.
I don’t know how they have people coming back… you’d have to be crazy, it was a torture session, and believe me, it does not have to be.
I’m sure there are better places than this! Try another salon!

I was going to this salon to get my waxing for 4 month now. Last time about 3 weeks ago I was surprised when the lady on the phone was taking my appointmnet information differently than before. I thought «Ok». More surprises were awaiting for me when I showed up: new décor, layout, POS system on the desk, new equipmnet, and fair enough new person behind the desk that took my info for appointment — NEW OWNER!!! I was her first client and guess — she has done an awesome job. We talked and I found out that she ahs another salon in Rhode Island– check it out

What a scam!
I called to find out what they charged: Haircut & blowdry $ 45. I asked how much for just a cut: $ 20 or $ 25. I hadn’t had any time to cut my hair and needed on bad, I was desparate. And I didn’t know places jacked up the prices for just a blowdry. Made an appointment for just a cut. The owner asked if I still only wanted a cut: YES!
I had to wait 15min passed my appointment before someone came and I maybe paranoid, but I think they gave me a stylist who didn’t speak any English — I mean not a word of English — on purpose. Everyone there speaks Portuguese. Except for me.
My stylist, Mario I think, butchered my hair since I couldn’t tell him how to cut it. The woman next to me translated, but who knows what that conversation was about. After he was done he pulled out the blowdryer and I kept trying to ask him to stop, but he just kept drying my hair with a smile.
When I got to the front the only thing the owner said was «you decided to get a blowdry? $ 45.» I just paid my money and tip and left.
I’m always looking to support local businesses owned by colorful people, but places like really piss me off.
Tip: If you’re trying to save some bucks just get a cut and make sure your stylist knows not to dry your hair.

Disappointed & disgusted does not even begin to describe my experience at Fashion Way…
With my big 2 5 birthday coming up I thought that I should treat myself to a manicure, an indulgence I seldom get (usually opting for the cheaper route of doing them on my own). Limited on time, I took a look on Unilocal for places around my work & came across Fashion Way which not only seemed to receive rave reviews but a $ 15 manicure — it was too good to be true (and it was.). Upon entering into the salon, no one was at the front desk nor was I even acknowledged by the 6 people ‘working’ there with no clients there but me. Then a girl just sits at the manicure table without anyone saying a word so I just assume to go take a seat across from her and without saying hello, she begins the torture…
Not only did she make me wince in pain a handful of times, she also made multiple fingers bleed which she just wiped off with the towel that she used for the rest of the manicure (no antibacterial lotion). After the prying & bleeding of my fingers stopped, I was looking forward to my favorite part of a manicure, the hand massage. Nope, nothing. She went straight into painting my nails & fingers. I had red nail polish all over, and she cleaned it up with remover on a stick which she wiped the excess off on her skin in-​between fingers. Finally she finished after an hour (it says 30 min on-​line) and I couldn’t leave fast enough.
It is safe to say I would be more than happy to pay double the price for my next manicure… if I ever want one again.

Service: Brazilian bikini wax
My first time getting a wax here was kind of like a quickie with a stranger. Fast, efficient, no pretense. I was in and out in about 20 minutes. This place is not classy. A simple room in the basement, a table, a mirror. A bare bones set-​up. Nothing fancy, but fine if you know what to expect. I might not recommend this place if it is your first time getting a Brazilian. I’m used to it so I’m not too shy and it’s not that painful anymore. I stripped down with my waxer (Teresa) in the room– no modesty towel or long process of waxing tiny areas at a time to guard against «discomfort». The place is clean, Teresa did a good job, and the staff is friendly. For the price ($ 40 + tip– still a fraction of the price at my regular spa), this place is definitely worth it. I’ll be going back in about a month.

I came here for the first time to get waxing done. I got an eyebrow, underarm and brazilian wax and it went very well considering this being my first time for a brazilian! The owner Marcia was very nice and made me felt very comfortable. The eyebrow was well done and was done by one of the ladies there which i forgot what her name was, and Marcia did my underarm and brazilian. Not all the hair were removed but this was probably due to it being near closing time, so hopefully the next time I stop by, I would come out spotless.
Overall, the service was well done, cheap and staff were very friendly! Will be coming back. :)

I walked in last night needing a quick, blunt trim. I had been trimming my own hair just to avoid paying for a haircut, but I finally broke down and did some research on Unilocal,and found some good reviews on this place. Well-​earned good reviews, I’d say!
Marco did my trim, and he was excellent. He asked me what I wanted and went straight to work. I prefer it when they don’t converse much and just cut my hair and send me on my way. I also liked that I got a little scalp massage while he was washing and conditioning my hair. A nice little extra! I’ll definitely be back.

Have you met my friend Bert? Well I had let it go too long and my unibrow Bert had come back. So, I went to Fashion Way over the weekend to have my eyebrows done. The lady who waxed me was named Malina and she did a fantastic job (and it was only $ 10). Not bad at all — it took a little longer than other places, but she spent her time making sure they were perfect. I definitely will be back, Bert is never that far away!

I went back to get my hair cut. I’m not the haircut kind of person — so I was definitely taking a chance here…
I wanted a wash/​cut/​blowdry (straight) and I got that and a treatment for dry hair all for 60 bucks. I’m impressed at the speed at which I’ve been helped here every time I come in. Edma did an amazing job with my hair — I will got back to see her next time I have the guts it takes to get my haircut.
The owner is also really nice, and helped out when it got to the point that Edma and I had more of a language barrier than either of us looked like we anticipated.

My second visit here was not the best thing ever, certainly not as good as the first time, but not terrible. I think there may have been a slight problem with how I was charged, as my mother and I both had the same deal (wash, cut, blowdry) with her’s costing 20 $ less than mine.
I still received good service, other than the wait, but I think I’ll be trying a few other places before returning to Fashion Way.

This place is an absolute gem! All the ladies are a pleasure to work with but special props go to Andrea. She boldly goes where few have gone before with professionalism, a great attitude, and mad skills. Best place to get a Brazilian wax in Greater Boston.

I recently read a book about proper etiquette in everyday life and in the business world. Why? Well, I am completely inappropriate and thought I could gain some insight on how to be «proper.» It didn’t work, but in that book there was a section about «tipping.» More specifically, tipping in the service industry for holidays (IE Postal man/​woman, Door man etc). I never do so because I am an unloyal mess (yes unloyal is a word), but Andrea at Fashion Way is so amazing, she makes me want to come pay her a visit towards the end of December and hand her a lot of money. Just to show my appreciation for everything she does. Anyone who can comfortably achieve an end result of my body having no hair, deserves some extra monetary appreciation. I think people are catching on, because I had to wait an entire week for my last appointment.
In the meantime, I will do the proper thing and thank Devon for recommending this place, and making my first appointment for me because I was completely scared and intimidated. Yay for Devon.

Feb. 2008 Update:
I went in today for color, and have to say, my hair looks pretty excellent. I will be using them again for hair needs. The price was pretty average for most salons, and I also got a treatment to make my hair shiny and help my ends, and in total it was $ 90, which is pretty reasonable.
Okay, I have found the MECCA of hair removal.
I got my eyebrows done here by Roger today, and they have never, ever in my life been as pristine and perfect as they are right now. He took his sweet time making them PERFECT for $ 10. They also do all other sorts of waxing, and suspect it would be just as detailed. This is a Brazilian run business, but everyone speaks english as well as portuguese, and were very welcoming. The customer service was impeccible, as was my wax. I will most likely be coming back here to get my hair cut by Roger, because he was on top of his game and took pride in his work. Also, they always offer coffee.
