Holiday Inn Boston Bunker Hill Area

We chose this Holiday Inn as an alternative to staying in downtown Boston and are so happy we did! Our room was spotlessly clean and the king-​size bed was very comfortable. Excellent rates considering the close proximity to downtown with the added bonus of plenty of free parking and the train station just three blocks away. Front desk staff was friendly and accommodating. We arranged to have the shuttle pick us up after a hockey game at TD Garden. Service was sketchy and it arrived 35 minutes later than predicted time. Overall, we had a great experience while staying at this Holiday Inn and would definitely return again!

Took my daughter for an overnighter during the recent holiday school break. We absolutely loved the pool area with the table games, basketball hoop, rock climbing wall and movie on the big screen.
The rooms were nicely furnished with a modern look and also very functional and clean. The staff was great and the breakfast was solid.
Easy access to Boston, Banknorth Garden, MOS and Aquarium.
It’s a great and economical alternative to Coco Key which is why we chose this hotel to begin with.

I honestly want to give this hotel 0 stars. First off, there was 3 people including me staying and we were only allowed a breakfast pass for only 2 people. Why didn’t the third person get one? Second was how nasty the room was. The bathtub was filled with dirt or God knows what. I would never stay here again. Staff was not helpful.

Went here for a work party recently. The staff was courteous, bar area restaurant nice, and event room was spacious.
Also got to hang out with some co workers in a suite. I didn’t stay here overnight. The room also looked nice and modern.
If I didn’t already live in the area I would stay here. I might even do that next year if the party is at the same place.

This place has some really strong points and some really weak points, so it averages out to mediocre.
For pros:
–Modern looking building
–reasonable prices
–plenty of parking
–close to subway station
–comfy bed and clean rooms
–awesome sports area with big heated pool, basketball net, tabletop games, and lounge chairs
If that was it, it would be a 5 star experience for me. The two main problems were a) on the 5^th floor you couldn’t get any wireless signal. The front desk was all «oh…I’ll try to reset it that might help.» Are you kidding? I know this has happened to other people. We couldn’t get a signal on 3 devices, so it wasn’t us. If you are having a multi story hotel, maybe consider having more signal locations. It was strong in the lobby but useless in the room, which is a pretty big annoyance. and b) the heater made an incredibly irritating tickticktickticktick noise after it was running a while. Didn’t notice it with the TV on but couldn’t sleep with it being the only noise. Eventually got so annoyed I turned off the heater and obviously woke up cold. I turned it on in the morning and it wasn’t making the noise, so I suspect it does that when overworked. Well, it’s Boston, maybe you should buy higher quality heaters that can withstand the upcoming winter.
Breakfast not included but there’s a Dunkin Donuts a block away. If our room hadn’t had those two problems it would have been perfect. Actually, I loved the pool, but the «lifeguard» was a joke. The first time I went to the pool I saw a girl reading in a lounge chair (not in the lifeguard stand) and the next day the pool was supposed to open at 9 so we wanted to swim before we checked out. It wasn’t open and the front desk said the lifeguard was running late and would be there in five. So 20 minutes later someone shows up to unlock pool and takes a seat near a wall on the opposite end of the area and plays on his phone. So… we had to wait for this one guy to open the door even though he in no way did anything to suggest he was a lifeguard? That was two different «employees» basically being paid for free time. Neither paid any attention to the pool area although it would be a sweet job to have no responsibilities. Money well spent, Holiday Inn.
If I were to come to Boston again I’d look up coming back because it’s a decent place for a decent price near a subway that happened to have all our stops on it so no transfers. It’s just disappointed how it struggled to maintain some basic expectations.

You can find this Holiday Inn location at 30 Washington St, Somerville, MA 2 143 at the Eastern edge of Bunker Hill. This is a neat older modernist building that has been tastefully redone with upgrades to rooms, setting and appearance, I’m guessing since IHG has taken it over. This location is in a convenient location to I93 with quick access to both Boston and Bunker Hill (about a mile to the West).
I arrived with some friends from Atlanta for a bit of a technology summit in our Boston offices — unfortunately there weren’t any affordable hotels near the office on Summer St across the Charles. so we pretty much picked this one at random — it’s about 3.5 miles from the office but still took a while to traverse the myriad roads during morning rush hour. Sidd and I arrived first and scoped out the hotel — in the lobby we asked about places to check out for lunch and dinner that were within walking distance.
The hotel was a lot better looking than I expected but I haven’t step foot in a Holiday Inn in 20 years or so, as we usually end up in the Express version. This hotel has a great lobby with high ceilings, modernist fixtures and clean lines. Breakfast was served in the downstairs tavern, Draft with the usual fare you would expect from a Holiday Inn Express, only here you have to pay extra (around $ 10 if you buy it with your room package and around $ 13 if you don’t).
The room itself was very nice, once again dressed up with modernist features that gave it more of an upscale feeling. I liked it quite a bit. TV provided by DirectTV with many of the channels you’d find in a premium package. WIFI worked great the first night then deteriorated as we approached the weekend (probably due to more guest logging into the access points).
We did manage to look around a bit and found a few conference rooms (attended by a career fair) and the workout/​pool area. It was locked (we were between operating hours) but we could see the pool and a few gaming tables. Next time we’re here, perhaps we’ll have time to check it out more thoroughly.

Stayed in mid September for 2 nights. Clean hotel. Nice décor. Super friendly and helpful staff. Great complimentary breakfast. The hotel shuttle will take you anywhere within 3 miles of hotel. In addition the hotel is located a few blocks from a subway stop. Would highly recommend!

in town for college hockey tournament at the TD garden. Hotel was among the least expensive in the area, and as a bonus has free parking.
Super convenient to the garden. We used Über, was about $ 8 and took about 10 minutes. All of the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. The free breakfast was better than many I have had in the past. Not the best, but defiantly good. Very clean and neat.
One thing I noticed, when we returned around 11 pm the only entrance (the main entrance) was locked. Needed to use our keycard to open the door. Made we wonder about the safety of the area. Also, the security guard positioned just inside the door never even looked up as we approached the door, opened the door and then walked by.

This was by far the nicest Holiday Inn I’ve ever stayed at, a really big breath of fresh air!
I was suppose to fly out of Boston Sunday night but due to weather my flight was cancelled so here I am, stranded in a city I’m not from or familiar with and I needed a place to stay, without a reservation.
So I hit up this hotel. I call and speak to a WONDERFUL woman at the desk who told me they had availability (i ended up booking online for a lower rate) and although they don’t have a shuttle to the airport, she told me EXACTLY how to get there via the subway, stating that it was cheaper then a cab and easier then a bus.
We got there in one piece and was super surprised. The check in process was easy, and the whole hotel was very clean, neat and organized. The room itself was lovely! Super modern and updated, smelled clean and fresh. And after the day we had, the bed being really comfy was a plus! Speaking of the bed, when I booked I must have mis-​clicked and reserved a room with 2 beds, but at check in we asked if they had a room with one bed, they didn’t have any full size but she upgraded us to a king for free!
In the morning, we went down to the restaurant for breakfast. The buffet had a good selection and was prepared well. However I ordered the eggs Benedict from the menu. Unfortunately the chef didn’t seem familiar with hollandaise sauce so I sent it back and just had the buffet instead. Upon getting the check, the waiter didn’t charge us for anything other then the 1 buffet which my boyfriend had gotten. So that definitely made up for the mess-​up!
Overall super happy and the next time I or anyone I know is in Boston and needs a hotel, I WILL recommend Holiday Inn Boston-​Bunker Hill!

Clean, updated, solid hotel that defies the worn out expectations of a Holiday Inn. Staff super friendly. Kids swam in the pool whole watching a movie, while I sat nearby nursing a glass of wine (in a plastic cup for pool safety.) Also in pool area: foosball table, ping pong, and a climbing wall.
Location is convenient and easy to find, and there’s a view south of Boston at night (from 9^th floor). Free and ample parking.

The hotel itself is nice. However the breakfast was awful No ketchup, salt or pepper provided. The coffee was watered down. Also the cleaning lady woke us up before 8 am. The staff also needs to put a list of nice restaurants together that are in the surrounding area. We asked for a recommendation for a nice Italian dinner and they sent us to a hole in the wall place. The server cleaned a dirty knife that we sent back with windex. Also they strongly recommend reservations when there was hardly anyone there. The other recommendation the hotel gave us for dinner was another hold in the wall tavern. Also our room wasn’t ready on time. It would have also been nice if they had a heavier blanket in the room too. Although it is summer the room was pretty cool from the ac. It felt like I was sleeping with just a sheet.

Hotel itself was nice, but went and ate breakfast and what i thought was complimentary cost me 11.97 for cereal

This location had nice, clean rooms. The front desk staff was friendly and very helpful! The hotel is a little far from downtown, but the hotel does offer a free shuttle to downtown Boston! We were dropped off near Quincey Market. Also, there is no additional charges for parking at the hotel! After looking at other hotels in the area, I quickly learned that other places were charging $ 50 or so per night just for parking…

This is a very nice Holiday Inn compared to most I’ve stayed at. I travel quite a bit for business and pretty much stay exclusively at IHG Hotels. You can’t beat the points compared to other chains.
The location is very convenient to Boston, less than a 10 minute drive. There is also a complimentary shuttle that you can make arrangements for with the front desk. My wife and I are spending some time in Cambridge which is even closer and super convenient. This is one of the few IHG hotels that has plenty of parking. I’ve stayed in most of them in and around Boston and you either pay for parking or their are very few spots available.
The hotel must have been renovated in the recent past as it has all the newest HI décor. The lobby, hallways, and rooms have all been upgraded with the newest color schemes from carpet to furniture.
The staff at the lobby are very friendly and welcoming. We were already staying here for free on a rewards stay, but as a Platinum Member I was upgraded to a suite. The suites are pretty big with nice amenities. The rooms are very clean, no funky smells, and the HVAC was working great.
Breakfast is standard HI fare, but free if your Platinum.
Highly recommended!

Easy check in. Had to wait for about 10 minutes to order food in restaurant. It wasn’t like they were busy either, seems like new staff? The food was okay though.

For the great price we paid, this is an excellent hotel.
Hotel room was very clean, cable and toiletries. Free PARKING and free breakfast buffet!

Location is not bad 10 minutes from downtown.

I am sitting in room 621 at this establishment as I write this review on 7÷18÷2013. We have been here since Tuesday afternoon and everything has been great! No problems with the room, the AC is heaven since its 90 degrees outside and the service is fantastic. For a standard hotel this is perfect. Its a little far out, but we needed to be near MIT this time — so this was perfect. The room is well appointed with a small seating area and a King bed. The bathroom is very nice with lots of shelve space for toiletries. They have a free shuttle service here to locations within 2 or 3 miles radius from the hotel which is greatly appreciated! The driver today was so much fun to talk to and he gave amazing service. This is a good option if you are on a budget and don’t mind taking public transport into town. Parking here is free which is a sweet deal!

Being just outside of downtown was nice break on the prices of staying downtown. For this reason I picked the place. The staff was very friendly. The best part was the free shuttle into downtown, as to the Garden. It was a short walk to the subway and that was only a few stops to get back downtown. The place was in good shape and the pool are was nice with lots of things to do (ping bong and climbing wall, to name a few).
Now here are the things That were left to be desired. This is nothing around the place. They seem to be trying to bring the surrounding are up. It is not bad, but there not much around there, as in only one bar, which was ok.
If the Garden is the main reason you are going to be in the area, then staying here is a good idea and for this it gets four starts.

Though the immediate neighborhood is lacking in character and services, this hotel is within a 5 minutes walk to Sullivan Square Station (Orange line), making it convenient to access downtown Boston.
The hotel is also very clean and newly renovated, provides Bath & Body Works shower amenities, features a 24-​hour gym, and offers shuttle service within a 2-​mile radius. Don’t forget to tip the drivers generously!
Wi-​Fi and parking is free too!
They have an on-​site restaurant that closes at 10pm; the food didn’t look that great, but it’s a fine spot to enjoy a drink while watching a game.

Holiday Inn Somerville is a solid option if you plan to stay in the Boston area. This location is a bit off the beaten path so expect to spend some time getting to your destination. There is a Zipcar on site but we were informed of how busy it is driving downtown on Saturdays so we opted to take a cab. The T station was about a 10 minute walk from the hotel so that was pretty convenient too.
The hotel was in the process of being renovated but we stayed in a fully renovated queen room. It was very clean and comfortable.
My one big complaint is that the on-​site restaurant closes at 10p. There are a few local taverns that are open pretty late but we wanted to relax in the hotel and enjoy a meal there. We opted to call a pizza place instead (I won’t name the place… it wasn’t good at all).
Overall, this was a serviceable hotel but next time, we will pay the extra money to stay closer to the action in downtown Boston.
