Powderhouse Square / Powderhouse Park

This place only has 2 other reviews right now, huh? This means my review holds weight!
I like this park. It’s like your Grandpa Joe: it’s old and decrepit and not very welcoming, but if you give it a chance you’ll see how cool it really is. If you want to go on a run, you might be better off going across the street to the Tufts fields. If you want to sit down and read a book, go here.
There are some events that take place in Powderhouse Park, like the annual summer jazz and blues festival, which is definitely worth attending!
The rotary in the square itself is all sorts of messed up and disorganized, but the park is fun and interesting (let alone humbling). Just like Grandpa Joe.

It’s a great park to walk your dog around.
It’s not the best park for a picnic, mainly because it’s a great park to walk your dog around. You smell what I’m stepping in?
The squirrels obviously get fed because they’re fearless. Or maybe they’re fearless because it’s a great park to walk your dog around? Either way, they will steal your Sun Chips, so (again) leave the picnicking for another park.
Still, a park is a park, even one with random topography that can induce vertigo and no real separation from the anarchy that is the Powderhouse rotary.
I do find it fascinating that the original powder house is somewhat present, in a senile, flaccid sort of way. The retired turret. Old Stoneysides. And I still talk about the day when I can hold a keg party there.
But I wouldn’t know what to do; I’m always in the dark. Because a party with a powder keg will be giving off sparks. I really need it tonight.

Traffic Circleness — an insane orgy of almost-​accidents occurs daily… most frequently between the hours of 4 and 7 on weeknights. Add pedestrians, specifically the cross-​over into the Crazy Tuftness, and you have a multitude of class action law suits waiting to happen.
Historic Parkness — A statue of a sheep. Brass horseshoes embedded in the rock ground. Even more random statues tickle the park making for an hilarious adventure… if you’re on pot. The ol’ powderhouse is the headliner here, boasting the title of THE gun powder storage unit for our revolutionary war heroes.
Crazy Tuftness — on a friday night, one can expect to see tube tops and skin-​tight jeans on cackling crowds of freshman girls as the boys herd them toward the bars of Davis Square. On saturday nights, the air is filled with the sounds of top 40 hip hop and dancing ping pong balls.
Together, they make the most magical combination.
