Smiles By Rosie

This is my first Unilocal review, which I think says a lot about my experience at Smiles by Rosie. I have felt anxious in dental offices ever since I had some traumatic, painful, and overall unpleasant experiences with dentists, orthodontists, and periodontists when I was younger. This was by far the best dental experience I have ever had.
Every single person I interacted with was friendly, accommodating, and professional. The dental hygienist, Jessica, was amazing. She even offered to change the Pandora station to suit my taste, and I was given a warm, lavender-​scented neck pillow before the exam started. I have some sensitive teeth and she was extra careful to be gentle but thorough. I met both doctors, Rosie and Anna, who were both so helpful and reassuring. After my exam I was even given a hot towel and, of course, a new toothbrush.
I came away from the experience feeling relaxed, clean, and happy — so not what I was expecting after a trip to the dentist! All dental offices could learn a thing or two from the staff at Smiles by Rosie. Thanks for a great experience!

I didn’t really believe that a dental office could truly have a 5 star rating, but now I see why! I hadn’t been to the dentist for longer than I should have, so I was really nervous about going. I’m sure there are others out there like me that avoid the dentist because it’s been a while and you are scared of being judged, so you continue to be put it off, and it creates a vicious cycle! I wanted to find a place where I thought I would feel comfortable and not feel judged or scolded. I did extensive research on dentists in the area and finally decided on Smiles by Rosie. I booked an appointment, which was several months out for new patients, but that was fine by me because it allowed me time to mentally prepare myself for my appointment. I did choose to be added to the waitlist so I received emails several times per week with the option to pick up an appointment that had been cancelled. I must warn though that these appointments go quickly, and you literally have to get and respond to the email requests within a couple minutes if you want to beat the others to it.
When I finally arrived at my appointment I was SO nervous! All of the staff is extremely friendly. They do everything they can to make you feel comfortable. The hygienist was very nice and gentle and she completed my exam and took my x-​rays. After my exam, Dr. Anna came in to meet me and go over my treatment plan. I never once felt judged and when I explained to the hygienist and Dr. Anna that it been a while since my last dental exam, they both just said «That’s okay!».
I returned a week later for my cleaning, and I did need a pretty deep cleaning. I was nervous that I would be in pain for weeks after. My hygienist (same as the last time) was so amazing and gentle! Although some parts of it did hurt (totally understandably), she was so careful and mindful of that. She really took her time and even went over my allotted time for my appointment to make sure she did a good job and wasn’t rushed. I was super surprised when my teeth and gums really weren’t all that sore after, as I was expecting it to absolutely awful! I can’t tell you the relief I felt walking out of there! If I had known about Smiles by Rosie before, I wouldn’t have put off the dentist for so long! I truly have a completely different opinion of dental care and I’m more motivated than ever to take care of my oral health.
Some highlights of their care include the fact that they let you choose your Pandora station during your session, they offer a warm neck pillow and lavender scented washcloths. They also have pretty pictures on the walls in the rooms as well as a mobile above your head, which may not sound that cool, but it’s actually very comforting and relaxing to look at it while having your teeth cleaned or having a procedure done. If you don’t have a Somerville parking permit, you can park at the Stop & Shop which is a block away, which just gives you time to show off your pretty smile on the walk back to your car :)
I’ve already recommended them to my friends and family!

Dr. Rosie, Dr. Anna and the whole team at Smiles By Rosie are amazing. They take the time to explain every part of the process, not only the dental procedures but also how to plan the timing of treatments to maximize insurance benefits. In addition to being skilled professional, the extra touches during each visit are incredible — from choice in music to a hot towel to relax when it’s all over. I highly recommend Smiles By Rosie!

When I moved to Somerville from Brookline 4 years ago and needed to find a new dentist, I had no idea where to go. Boy am I glad I lucked into finding Rosie’s practice! I’ve probably gone for about 7 – 8 cleanings by now, and have ALWAYS had a stellar experience. I’ve never waited more than 5 minutes or felt rushed, and they have the BEST customer service in town. The entire staff is truly kind, helpful, and patient. And of course… they let you pick your own Pandora playlist to make that dentist visit a bit more palatable! Just a nice cherry on top.
While I’m mostly there for routine cleanings, I will also say that Rosie and her team were very helpful in contacting my insurance years back to request pre-​authorization and price quote for a procedure I was considering. For anyone who’s every dealt with insurance companies (i.e. all of you), we know how obnoxious that is. They took lots of time to do that for me, never pressuring me to even go through with the procedure (which I didn’t). Great example of going above and beyond to provide great care and customer service.
I’ll remain a Rosie patient so long as I live anywhere near Somerville!

How many times have you heard people say that their visit to the dentist’s office was relaxing and enjoyable? Not too often as many people dread the dentist’s chair.
That was exactly my experience at my first visit to Smiles by Rosie. Relaxing and Enjoyable! I spent over an hour at this gem-​of-​a-​find family-​friendly dental office tucked away on quiet side streets of Somerville. The building exterior is nondescript and almost appears that the office is closed, but when you walk in, the mood changes as you’re met by soothing lavender painted walls with peaceful exam rooms with wooden floors, soothing mobiles hanging overhead and a meditation-​like atmosphere.
I felt like I was at a spa!
Erika, my dental hygienist, gave me a warm neck wrap, sunglasses and set the Pandora station to my preferred musical tastes to ensure that my experience was comfortable and relaxed while she cleaned my teeth. The lavender scented warm towel offered at the end of my visit was the crowning touch to a wonderful experience.
Dr. Rosie stopped came in to discuss my dental history and review with me any concerns or questions I had about my dental health. She exudes warmth, attentiveness and genuine care for her patients. If you’re looking for a dentist, I highly recommend that you check out Smiles by Rosie! Your experience at the dentist office will be transformed!

Really welcoming and friendly, made going to the dentist about as great as you could ask for! They at no point made me feel like they were trying to upsell me to get more money out of me as a patient or shame me for not doing enough to care for my teeth, they were just really considerate and efficient and encouraging all around. Will definitely be going back.

Smiles by Rosie is the most friendly dentist’s office I’ve ever been to. The staff are all incredibly kind and gentle, the receptionist is on her game, and Dr. Rosie herself is fantastic.
The office has beautiful touches around it – local artwork, mobiles in each room over the dreaded dentist chair (they’re pretty comfortable, by the way), soothing lavender walls. They give you a warm neck pillow at the beginning and a lavender scented cloth for your face at the end, sunglasses to shade your eyes from the bright light they need to see in your mouth, and you can pick your pandora station for the appointment.
Their tech is state-​of-​the-​art. I mean, magic portable x-​ray gun that transfers your pics right to their computer!
They don’t hassle about not flossing or whatever, just clean you up and set you up as well as they can for good habits going forward.
Also, I was tongue tied (couldn’t stick out my tongue), which bothered me from time to time when I had to talk a lot at work, and Dr. Rosie told me she could fix it! We did the procedure and it was super successful. So, in case you’ve never heard that you could get yours fixed, you can!
My teeth are in better shape than they ever have been, and I have an autoimmune disease that attacks them. Highly recommend Smiles by Rosie. I trust her to keep my mouth in great shape.

I really can’t find a complaint about these people. So consistent with their work every time I have stopped in. Love this place.

Found this dentist office after having difficulty finding a decent one. I’ve cycled through many dentists and found this office after searching for the best dentists in Somerville. My family and I were surprised to see how accommodating and hospitable this office is! And the procedures we’ve been through thus far (cleanings and fillings) have been the most comfortable and painless ones we’ve had. They are the best dental experience so far!!! We highly recommend!

First-​time patient, and it could not have been a more pleasant experience. Everyone in the office is polite and friendly, very professional, and most accommodating. My technician was superb, and Dr. Rosie is the best. I hope to be a patient for years to come, and will highly recommend Smiles By Rosie to anyone looking for a great dental experience.

I hadn’t been to the dentist in 5 years, so I was really dreading my initial appointment here. Fortunately, my hygienist, Ashley, was so sweet and welcoming, and did a wonderful job of telling me what she was going to do as we went through the xrays and gum examination, as well as checking in on me during the cleaning see if I was doing alright. And the cleaning. my teeth are so clean and shiny now, which feels like a small miracle. My favorite part of the exam room was that there was a mobile with birds right above the exam chair, and watching that slowly rotate around really helped me relax. Afterwards, Dr. Anna came in to explain what she saw on my xrays, gave me some good tips to care for me teeth, and answered my questions, all while being totally nonjudgmental. Overall, very pleased– looking forward to my 6 month follow up.

So I just had my first visit at Smiles By Rosie. I’ve never been to more welcoming, relaxing professional dental practice in my life. Every member of the staff there was friendly and cheerful. I arrived early and my appointment started early (which is unheard of), already setting the positive tone of the visit. The xrays were quick and through, with no pieces of xray paper cutting my mouth. My cleaning was quick and gentle, thanks to a very talented hygienist. I got to choose my preferred flavor of polish paste (go for vanilla, its delicious). Next I got the pleasure of meeting and talking with Dr. Rosie. She was super friendly and helpful with my examination.
Bottom line: Best dental practice I’ve ever been to!

No one likes going to the dentist, but Smiles by Rosie makes you dread the appointment a little less. Take the warm neck pillow they offer, choose your Pandora station, and sit back and let the wonderful ladies do what they need to do. My appointments almost always start on time. I say that because one time I was waiting for maybe 20 minutes, which I guess is unusual for them, so they sent me an Amazon gift card to make up for it. Where can you find a dentist that takes your time that seriously? Not anywhere I’ve been before, for sure. The only thing is no parking lot so you’ll have to park at Stop and Shop down the street, but definitely not a deal breaker.

I didn’t go to a dentist for four years, because I loved my dentist back home so much and nobody I knew in Boston was willing to recommend theirs. Dr. Rosie is the rare dentist who can match the quality I was lucky enough to grow up with — gentle with the instruments, warm chair-​side manner, and 100% knowledgable about her dentistry. I can vouch for the fact that the ‘no judgment, no lectures’ philosophy is real. Nobody guilted me about the fact that I hadn’t seen a dentist in ages, they just made me feel warmly welcomed and well-​taken-​care-​of. I have enjoyed watching the practice grow as I have been a patient there for the past few years. Everything is purple, from the Listerine to the rubber gloves, which takes the edge off the «medical» feel of the place. You also get your choice of Pandora station while being worked on, which is a very nice touch.

Six reasons I dig being a patient here:
1) My appointments always start on time. This gives me the impression that they are organized, professional, and respect my time.
2) Their facility is fairly high tech.
3) No expense is spared to maximize my comfort: heated neck pillow, a blanket, aromatherapy, neck massages, and they even let me pick the Pandora station.
4) They use technology to their advantage. Text, email, phone, their custom portal– there are several ways for me to confirm, cancel, and reschedule.
5) They pre-​authorize all of my work, so no surprises from my health provider.
6) Excellent atmosphere, lovely art hangs on the walls. There’s a freaking tea bar area.

I actually kind of enjoyed my cleaning. It was like a spa day for my teeth.

Dr. Rosie is an exceptional dentist with an exceptional dental practice.
The waiting room is pleasant, the staff is courteous, and the ability to pick the music, as others have mentioned, is a small but significant factor in feeling comfortable in what is normally an exceedingly uncomfortable environment (dentist office).
Dr. Rosie is hands down the most considerate and professional dentist I have ever interacted with. She goes out of her way to explain what is going on and is clearly very sensitive to patients who have concerns or questions about dental procedures. She does her work with a care and attention to detail I have not experienced with other practices.
If you’re even mildly unsatisfied with your current dentist, switch now and you’ll be glad you did.

Finally, the dentist office just for me. And also the rest of the anxious, touch-​shy, noise-​and-​sensation-​averse population.
There are three reasons I hadn’t been to the dentist in two years: I’m terrified of phone calls. (My old dentist called me just last week and needs to stop.) Making my appointment through a single, simple web page plus some follow-​up emails was like being in a beautiful cloud of the future as it should be. I also, surprise, have a lot of internalized guilt about my tooth-​cleaning habits. My teeth were surprisingly okay after two years but I have no doubt that no matter their state, Rosie and Jessica would have been equally pragmatic and chill.
Three, I’m transgender, and my name and appearance are at odds; no one even blinked. This can get awful when seeking medical care, but it wasn’t — again, the future as it should be.
Everyone made me feel comfortable and involved in my own care. I appreciate that Rosie went over my entire medical history (very efficiently!) and offered resources for mental health stuff like it was no big deal. When I was first trying to deal with mental health I had no idea where to get help, and having that offered without judgment or awkward questioning is, frankly, incredible.
I left happy instead of exhausted.

Called on Aug 7 for appointment. Next available was for October 16. After asking to be placed on the cancellation list for Friday’s I was informed Tuesday August 11 that there was an opening for Friday the 14^th. Score!
I arrived the standard 15 min early to fill out new patient paperwork but soon discovered NO PARKING. After driving around for 5 min I parked outside the office (permit parking only) to ask where I should park and the receptionist told me Stop & Shop. After driving down the street to the grocery store I immediately noticed the signs «Parking for customers only. Violators will be towed.» I called the office to inform them and the receptionist assured me I could. I reluctantly parked hoping I wouldn’t be towed.
After arriving at the office, now 5 minutes late, I learned there wasn’t any paperwork to fill out! Double score. I was only asked to sign the HIPPA form. I did my Unilocal check in and got an offer for $ 50 to a restaurant. The receptionist wasn’t very warm and told me it was «wrong» then stated I had to pay upfront before being seen. While trying to transfer money into my checking from savings through my bank app she became a little impatient. After swiping my card I asked for the receipt to for my insurance claim and she snapped I’ll get it at the end of the visit. My thoughts: then take the payment at that time. After a few minutes Jessica popped out to bring me back. She was very friendly and offered customize the Pandora station and brought me in a warm neck pillow then stepped out.
Dr. Rosie came in to personally do my patient history. I loved that. I didn’t feel like a number but an engaged patient. Nice touch Dr. Rosie! After going over my medical history she left and sent Jessica back for the cleaning. Jessica is amazingly thorough and has a very gentle touch. After the cleaning I was given a warm lavender scented towel for my face. WHAT?! :D Is this a spa or a dental office. I’m in LOVE!
Dr. Rosie came back for the exam we talked about my concerns and invisalign (she doesn’t have it here but had recommendations). You can tell the loves her profession and treats patients like people not ATMs
With the exception of the receptionist and parking my visit to Rosie’s dental was five stars!
