Absolutely wonderful! I started going without any expectation, and I’ve been going every 2-​weeks for 4-​years now! Sheryl has made a major positive impact on my physical, mental, and emotional health. I called Sheryl and explained my acupuncture needs. She was informative and kind right off the bat. As we were looking at our schedules, I mentioned that I live in the burbs and she immediately suggested I avoid the stress of rush hour traffic, etc and recommended some practitioners closer to my location.
When so many businesses are out to get a buck, it is refreshing to have someone think of the individual as a person instead of a consumer. Thank you, Sheryl!

I’m so glad I’ve found Sheryl and feel so lucky to have an amazing acupuncturist right in my neighborhood. Sheryl has been incredibly accommodating with scheduling and is super easy to book with. She’s easy to talk to and doesn’t flinch when you share gory details. The treatments themselves are incredibly relaxing, and I find myself looking forward to my weekly session more and more. I’ve been going to Sheryl for a few months now and she is amazing! She takes the time each visit to see what has been going on in my life and how my body has responded to it. I went to Sheryl twice recently, because my forearm had been very sore for about five weeks (too much snow-​clearing work). Her first treatment completely eliminated the pain for one day, but then the pain returned. Her second treatment, a week later, had a more lasting effect: the pain has gotten better steadily, day-​by-​day. I haven’t used painkillers for my arm, since the second treatment. Major win.

Sheryl works her magic to help with my migraines. She always takes the time to personalize my treatments based on my symptoms and I feel great when I leave…(so great in fact, that I sometimes feel stoned). The receptionist (ironically also named Cheryl) is sweet and friendly and their mascot, Sumo, is adorable; he always greets me with his tail wagging. I have tried several acupuncturists, but Sheryl’s out-​of-​the-​box approach has helped me immensely. I highly recommend you book an appointment to see for yourself!

I’d gone to Sheryl a few years ago for various issues, and she helped a lot. For example, she came up with a Chinese herbal remedy for restless legs that really worked. Unfortunately, because I’m a big guy (at the time, more than 350), the amount I had to take was quite a bit, and I took the wuss way out and just took the pills my doctor gave me, even though they had side effects and didn’t always work.
Cut to today. I strained my back (again!), but couldn’t rest all day like I sometimes do. I went in and she gave me a short treatment, which was immediately helpful. Now, hours later, I am MUCH better than I usually am after straining my back and just treating it with rest.
I highly recommend going to see Sheryl for whatever ails you!

I had been wanting to try acupuncture for some time, but never followed through. Finally, I found Union Square Acupuncture here on Unilocal — the reviews were great so I thought I would give it a try.
I sent an email to schedule my first appointment — it was quick, easy, and convenient. Sheryl was friendly and accommodating.
When I walked in for my first appointment, I found the environment warm and soothing. Cheryl was super-​friendly and had me fill out my paperwork. When it was time for my session, Sheryl showed me to a warm, cozy treatment room. We reviewed my history, my symptoms, and she went over how everything works and what to expect. It was great. I felt really comfortable and at home.
I’ve been going to Sheryl regularly for the past few months now and my symptoms are being addressed, which is exciting. I always look forward to my sessions and highly recommend Union Square Acupuncture!

I came into Union Square acupuncture with sciatica pain so bad, I limped into the office. After a chat about what acupuncture did and a complimentary cup of green tea, she had me lay down on a table and put on relaxing music, and made sure I was aware whenever she put a needle in. I was surprised how little the needles hurt; in fact, a kind of calm «heavy» feeling took the place of the pain, and after she lit some herbs over the knotted area of my lower back, I was able to walk out of the office walking normally, and have had two more sessions, leaving each one feeling a little better than before. Highly recommend.

If you’ve never had a migraine, then you don’t know how much you’d sacrifice to get rid of them. If you have had a migraine, you’ve probably prayed to every single deity, made offerings of money and first-​born children, tried multiple prescription meds/​herbal tinctures/​MRI scans and folk remedies… and if you’re anything like me, nothing has worked. I kid you not-I’d sign up for brain surgery if I knew it would cure me.
Having tried almost every cure in the book, it was with bated breath and a healthy dose of cynicism that I made my first appointment with Sheryl at Union Square Acupuncture. The lovely receptionist (also name Cheryl) reassured me that they’d do everything in their power to help with my headaches, and I signed myself up for an introductory appointment.
My first meeting with Sheryl was lovely and relaxing. She spent about an hour talking through my symptoms (headache and non-​headache), routines, diet, emotions, etc. before discussing the treatment. While I am fortunate enough to have other doctors who actually listen to me and respect my knowledge of my own body, it is increasingly rare to have someone pay such close attention to you in any clinical setting. She made sure to ask plenty of questions, clarify information, and get as complete a picture of my symptoms and needs as she could, and was incredibly patient with my wordy responses.
Once I’d given her the low-​down on my medical history, she talked me through an individualized health and treatment plan. She also showed me the needles and quelled any fear I had of sharp daggers penetrating my flesh (they are teeny tiny needles, nothing like those ol’ tetanus shots!). After taking my heart rate, listening to my belly, checking my tongue and all sorts of other ‘diagnostic’ tasks, the treatment began. Now, for those of you who envision acupuncture as method for turning you into a human porcupine, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to know that there are actually just a few strategic needles placed in the necessary spots, and that these spots range from ankles to wrists to ear lobes (and your back, head, neck, etc.).
She does the core placements first in order to achieve balance, and after a 15 minute rest (in the dark with super chill music), comes back to check on you and get feedback on any pain/​improvements/​etc. Once this part ends, she treats you on your belly, and lets you rest again for another 20 minutes. She also asks for plenty of feedback as to how the needles impact your body and how your body responds to certain placements, and is incredibly patient when adjusting the needles. Of the utmost importance: NOTHING HURTS! You barely feel the pinch (unlike at the doctor’s, when the pinch is actually a searing pain).
I’ve only had two sessions, but during my last session, I was actually in the midst of a migraine. She spent most of the meeting working to rid me of the headache, and sat with me while the needles did their work. I was able to go from a pain rating of 6 (out of 10) to a 1 in less than an hour, and she also gave me a lot of useful info on my headache patterns that I’d never heard before.
I never thought I’d find a way to be completely rid of my migraines, but if this success is any indication of how acupuncture can help, I’m willing to stick with this for as long as I can! Sheryl has renewed my hope in a headache free future (or at least a future not ruled by headaches), and I feel so comfortable working with her. I went to a very experienced Chinese acupuncturist when I lived in California. The results were great but the experience wasn’t — not so with Sheryl! She is amazing all around!
She spent a significant amount of time with me the first appointment, really working to understand me as a whole person.
She fixed horrible pain I’ve had for about 5 years from a partially dislocated shoulder (which physical therapy and massage didn’t work on). Whenever it even twinges, I go in and come back out pain free. More importantly, she helped me make IMMENSE progress with symptoms from a chronic intestinal condition. My life is hugely improved thanks to Sheryl.
She’s not only an fantastic healer but a great communicator. As M M. said, she explains everything she’s doing, is very thorough and happily answers all questions.
She’s also fantastic in that she’ll give you tips on what to do between visits that will help. If you are willing to be an active participant in your own wellness, you’ll get even more out of it (applies to acupuncture in general, not just with Sheryl). The fact that Sheryl facilitates this earns her serious bonus points from me.
Cheryl at the front desk is also great and incredibly helpful at getting appointments that work with your schedule.

My neck ALWAYS hurts from long-​term issues exacerbated by stress. When I walk out of Union Square Acupuncture, my neck is usually pain-​free, my stress level dissipates and I sleep well. As long as I get there for a «maintenance» visit, I truly function much better! It’s amazing how much Sheryl can tell about what’s going on simply from taking my pulse. She’s a tremendous healer with an open and varied approach.
I can’t imagine what reviewer Laura C. is talking about… Sheryl’s needles don’t hurt (in more than a year seeing her), and I’ve never caught a hint of hostility, but plenty of warmth and caring mixed with her straightforward and insightful explanations.
This practice is a terrific part of the neighborhood. Sheryl, Cheryl and Summo are very welcoming and you’re encourage to pop in just to say hello. Not only do I highly recommend Sheryl, I have — to two very happy friends.

I had never tried acupuncture before, but a friend suggested it to me. I had been having sinus problems for years, and had tried going to allergists and Ear, Nose, and Throat specialists, and a few doctors, and no one had an explanation for what was wrong with me.
Sheryl spent a long time talking to me about my overall health during the first visit, and starts every visit with a conversation. After a few weeks of going once a week, my sinus problems were remarkably better, but now I go every once in a while and feel like myself again! Through conversations with Sheryl I think of things that I normally wouldn’t remember to bring up with a doctor, because of the relaxed environment, and my overall health is much better.
There is a friendly and soothing atmosphere in the common areas and in the treatment rooms, and I always leave feeling better (and more calm and happy) than when I came after talking to Sheryl and Cheryl.
If you’ve been thinking of trying acupuncture, you should try Union Square Acupuncture. I really didn’t know what to expect before I went the first time, but now I’m a firm believer that acupuncture works, and Sheryl is great at it.

this place is my local chi joint — i love having a local acupuncturist and sheryl is amazing. her attitude is great her responsiveness to my needs and my long term health goals have been super. i believe acupuncture is not just a quick fix but a way to keep tuned up so i try to go on the regular — she even has a special rate for a second visit during the same week if you are dealing with something acute. her work with my wife during her pregnancy has been exceptional — she has a whole prebirth system that we have taken full advantage of. basically sheryl is a gem. i feel very lucky to have met her and i know she has made my whole body and health better.

The vibe is relaxing and friendly — and most importantly — homey.
We spent the first part of the initial session really talking things out, which I think relaxed my mind more than anything. She also explained many things about how health, emotion, and physical symptoms are all connected, which is very true.
Then, up on the table! Sheryl was amazing as she explained everything she was doing and looking for. She was very thorough and happily answered all questions (I had many!)
The needles went in, the lights went down, and for the first time in … I really can’t remember — I felt true relaxation. With every inhale/​exhale, I felt a new stress leave, which was the goal of this session.
Flipped over, more needles (which I didn’t feel at all!) and relaxed so much I found myself comfortably laying in that space between awake and asleep — and my mind stayed silent. It was a beautiful feeling!
So a definite yes on the services of Union Square Acupuncture! Sheryl is amazing, as is Cheryl — and if you haven’t tried acupuncture, give it a whirl!

Guess what? You can still get the benefits of acupuncture without needles! Both Sheryl and Heidi are well-​versed in techniques that do a world of good without anything invasive or uncomfortable. So if you’re squicky about needles like me, but you could benefit from Chinese medicine, give either of these professionals a try. They are friendly, attentive, thoughtful, and all around wonderful. Five plus stars!

I had very bad carpel tunnel syndrome in both hands. Sheryl has worked magic. My hands no longer hurt and I feel great! I LOVE going there. The prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is great. 5 stars!

I started going to Sheryl several years ago after one of my friends referred me. At the time I’d never done acupuncture before and it’s true… for the most part you don’t really feel the needles. Sheryl does both Japanese (which is a bit more gentle and hands on) as well as the traditional Chinese acupuncture. I was in a car accident previously and have had a post-​nasal drip from breaking my nose. Couple that with this season’s intense allergies and I have had a lot of sleepless nights even with an allegra/​flonese cocktail. The first night after my initial acupuncture session was the first night in over a year that I slept all the way through without any drugs. Wow!
I even had a bout of low-​level depression at one point and one session with Sheryl completely revitalized me. I couldn’t believe the difference.
Sheryl is warm, caring and genuinely concerned about making sure that her patients are comfortable and leave feeling satisfied. If a treatment doesn’t work for me or if I have a really sensitive pressure point, I just tell her and we adjust. That’s the mark of a good personal health-​care specialist, IMHO.

I have never liked being stuck with needles. I have had some problems with a shooting pain in my shoulders that just never seemed to stay away. I have started visiting Sheryl at suggestion of one my friends and now I still get a pain but it’s now tolerable and I am stopped taking advil. Maybe with some more sessions it will go away for good.
