This restorative slow-​flow style is perfect for busy and stressed out people! Coming to class rejuvenates and invigorates me. I go to class stressed out and after class, its like everything in the world is ok again.
Unlike Power Yoga or other faster styles, Restorative Yoga is a gentle practice that strengthens the core while increasing flexibility and most importantly helps clear the mind. The focus in practice is mindfulness — so we are often encouraged to stop listening to the monkey mind and so we can get into our bodies.
The difference between Union Square Yoga and other styles: longer holds with less stress on ‘pushing it’ — simple poses with a focus on relaxation and breathing with less emphasis on balancing and more challenging poses.
The location is great, a quiet side street (Allen Street) right outside of Union Square off Somerville Ave in between the Dunkin Donuts and the Target store. Its also a Martial Art Studio so its clean and very Japanese looking inside. Plus, there is plenty of free parking!
I’d recommend Union Square Yoga to anyone — beginner to experienced — it’s a welcome addition to my practice. As I now try to actively healing myself from the inside out.
The best part, I noticed results right away. Faster recovery from soreness, my jeans fit better, and my posture is improving. Not to mention I never feel drained after class, I feel tons of relaxed (increased) energy.
So cool.
So close to Union Square.
