The Inn on Knowles Hill

The house was very charming. It had ducks, chickens, and friendly cats and dogs on the property (all out side pets). The garden was gorgeous and everything was in bloom.
Rhonda, the inn keeper was so gracious and an amazing cook. I cannot rave enough about how good the breakfast was.
This place was amazing!

I stayed at Knowles Hill for the second time with my family and it was once again a great experience. Rhonda could not be a more kind, friendly and gracious host. The highlight of a stay at the inn is definitely the breakfast. Rhonda’s breakfasts are truly amazing! Our favorite treat was the poached pear, but the fresh eggs from their chickens with herbs, homemade granola, French toast with cinnamon bourbon sauce, and really everything we tried on the 3 mornings we were there was delicious! The grounds are beautiful and the kids loved looking for the ducks, cats and dogs every time we went outside. Highly recommend staying here when in Sonora.

We absolutely loved spending a night here. The property is really beautiful — it feels like you’re in a secret garden. We came in the spring when all the flowers were in bloom. We also loved all the animals on the property — chickens, dogs, cats, and ducks. The breakfast was worth the trip up to Sonora alone — it was one of the best breakfasts we’ve ever had, and there were accommodating to a food allergy. We also loved hearing about how Rhonda and her husband restore old cars! We also appreciated that she let us plug our electric car into their garage so we could make it back home :)
Would definitely recommend for a romantic weekend getaway!

There is nothing I can really add to the other reviews. Rhonda was a wonderful host. Breakfast was amazing (really amazing). Our room was comfortable and clean. And the cats, don’t get me started on the cats! Loved this place, would absolutely stay here again. Sonora needs more dining options, but you can’t blame that on Knowles Hill. Oh, and we had an early time that we needed to leave for a funeral mass and Rhonda got up and made us breakfast two hours early and gave us a late checkout. Service just doesn’t get any better than that. She was born to host a B&B and it shows.

This is a beautiful bed and breakfast with an amazing breakfast. You will truly feel like family and royalty staying here. My husband, five year old daughter, and I loved staying here. Rhonda is the nicest person you’ll ever meet. She even gave us a tour of the newly remodeled kitchen. I fell in love with the blanket she had on our bed and bought the same one as soon as we got home. Shabby chic fleece blanket in case you want one too.

Rhonda was extremely accommodating and helped my family enjoy a last minute getaway to the snow. My wife called and spoke to Rhonda on our drive up to the foothills from the Bay Area. She was able to book us with an adjoining room for the kids. We arrived after having dinner in town, in the dark. We were greeted by one of the bellhops (big, fluffy, outdoor cat) at the steps leading up to the house. He led us right to the front door of the inn. Rhonda met us in the foyer and gave us a warm greeting and told us about the inn, then led us to our room. Very comfortable, clean and cozy room. The architecture of the house is beautiful. Allow yourself time to walk the grounds and meet the animals.
Breakfast was truly gourmet with fresh, organic ingredients and eggs from the free-​range chickens on the grounds! Belgian waffles were naturally risen with yeast… Every thing was delicious and our meal was set in a beautiful dining room with other happy and interesting guests.
The room was a little warm because they use the original radiator heaters to heat the house and room, but we were able to crack the windows and let in the cool air at night. The fresh air in the morning was perfect.

I visited The Inn on Knowles Hill about two months ago, but I haven’t yet stopped thinking about Rhonda’s poached pear appetizer. Everything about our stay was amazing, from the adorable room, to the outstanding breakfast, to the cute newly hatched ducklings, to Rhonda’s kind and warm spirit. I’ve stayed at numerous high end B&Bs in the US and Europe, and The Inn on Knowles Hill is among the very best. I will gladly return.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Inn on Knowles Hill this weekend. The Inn is situated on a hill, providing spectacular 360 degree views of Sonora. As you walk up to the house you are greeted by the outdoor family members — dogs, cats and ducks! The house and guest rooms are lovely — decorated in period furnishings; but with all of the modern comforts. Our room was spacious, quiet and comfortable — with a lovely balcony where my husband enjoyed reading a book in the late afternoon sun. We were served an incredible breakfast in the morning — prepared with culinary flair from locally sourced ingredients. The location, accommodations and food were superb — but the best part of our visit were our hosts Fred and Rhonda. They are truly special people who have found their calling. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Inn to our friends and hope to return soon.

Wonderfully friendly family-​owned B&B, with amazing gourmet breakfast — poached pear with vanilla brulee filling, fer cripes sake. What I loved most were the very friendly animals: lovely sweet-​natured dogs, and friendly, fearless cats everywhere, including a beautiful calico who came in our window in the morning to wish us a happy start to our day. Sweet experience.

I go on business trips all the time. My recent stay here was for business and you’ve got to know that I truly hate bnbs for business. They just are not set up for it.
That having been said, IOKH did a fine job of accommodating my needs and almost making business work okay there. It would have been nice if there were an area dedicated to working (a desk maybe) but things turned out okay.
The hostess was a jewel and a great cook to boot. I can see why someone would love to do a wedding or vakay here.

I loved everything about this place. The grounds, the comfortable, spacious, antique filled living room and dining rooms, the bedroom with adjoining sitting room (even the hide-​a-​bed in there was comfy), and the dogs, cats, and ducks (all outdoor of course), are all thoroughly charming. And Rhonda’s cooking is to die for. From her homemade toffee served with our evening tea, to the best breakfast I can recall having anywhere. Quite lovely.

I love this B&B and Rhonda! The Inn is very beautiful, clean and comfortable. Don’t know what is about this place but I always sleep very well when I stay here. Rhonda is a great host and always makes sure I have everything I need. The breakfast Rhonda cooks is phenomenal and you can feel that she creates each dish with love and pride. She also knows the local attractions very well so will be able to give you very good advises about what to do locally. I highly recommend this wonderful B&B to anyone visiting Sonora!

We were in town for the weekend to attend a family gathering, and while our relatives booked rooms at a different hotel, we decided to go with this B&B. I am so glad we did!
The inn — It really is beautiful. The drive up from downtown is only about less than 5 minutes, but it feels like a world away. There is a gate to enter the grounds where guests have to enter the code for security (not that downtown Sonora seemed dangerous at all). Our walk around the grounds was enjoyable as well, since there are a lot of nice details like the fountains, gardens and Rolls Royce cars (that Rhonda and her husband are currently restoring) to see. They also have a few collies, cats and ducks which the kids loved. Inside, there are a few common rooms where guests may sit and relax, listen to the music, watch DVDs or play with board games and puzzles.
The room — We stayed in the Melvin Belli room. Rhonda said that they had just upgraded most of the beds a few weeks ago, and our room now had a super comfortable cal king. The room had a lot of little details that helped it retain its historical charm without feeling kitschy. There were two closets which were ample for our stay. The bathroom was a little small but modern and clean. The shower stall (no tub) is accessible by one door and the toilet by a separate door.
Food — Breakfast was fantastic! Everything was served on beautiful china and just yummy. Rhonda did ask beforehand whether we had any dietary restrictions but fortunately none of us did. She cooked everything herself and the eggs and chicken came from free-​range chicken they raised on the premises. They had a high chair available for my toddler, who had his meal served to him thoughtfully cut up in bite-​sized pieces, and he had everything we had just in smaller portions. This was very nice considering we didn’t pay more than the regular room rate and he could’ve just shared our meal. When he turned down the juice, they accommodated our request for watered-​down hot chocolate (so that it would be cooler and less sugary) which must’ve been good because he finished it in two gulps.
Hospitality — Rhonda was wonderful from start to finish. The girl who was helping her serve breakfast was very sweet too.
I hope we have an excuse to go to Sonora again soon, because we would definitely love to stay here again!

Rhonda is incredibly welcoming at this wonderful hilltop location. The room was beautifully furnished and the grounds were perfectly manicured and immaculate. Our only regret was having to unexpectedly leave early and miss the amazing breakfast that Rhonda made especially to accommodate my special dietary needs. Thanks, Rhonda, for being so hospitable.

My husband surprised me for our anniversary by reserving us a room here. We live about a mile away, but getting away has always been difficult for us-​so he made a great choice in staying local! Everything about the Inn was perfect! The room was large and extremely clean, the bed was so comfortable (and the special detergent smelled so good-you’ll want to know what she uses)! Rhonda is one of the nicest people you will ever meet-​and the BEST cook! Our breakfast was out of this world-​my husband and I couldn’t stop talking about it! We will be back, but in the meantime, we’ll spread the word about how amazing The Inn on Knowles Hill is!

We came to this B&B for my sister-in-law’s wedding. The house is beautiful, and every room has something to see. Antique furniture, tin ceilings, and fountains outside. The food is to die for, there wasn’t one thing I would not eat. But the best part of staying here by far is Rhonda and Fred. They are just to wonderful, and they make you feel like family. They really helped with all of the little details like the wire on the back of a portrait and fixing the decorations for the wedding. And the table for the wedding dinner was beautiful. We didn’t want to leave.

My mom and I headed here for a girls’ weekend, and had a great time. The place itself and the grounds are breath-​taking. Our hostess was also grand! She is so sweet and made EXCELLENT vegan meals for us. We highly recommend Knowles Hill!
