Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory & Gardens

Such a magical little escape!
If you’re anywhere near the area, I highly recommend going. To walk amongst the butterflies and little quails (if you can spot them running around) is such a unique experience considering its location on the east coast as opposed to somewhere tropical! The staff does an excellent job of maintaining the butterfly sanctuary. The wall with the developing cocoons and chrysalises is especially neat!

Amazing experience for kids and adults. I can imagine it’s a lovely place to sit and relax when it’s not school vacation. During school vacation it gets a little more crowded, but it is simply an amazing experience. Well done!

Pretty cool place to visit even if you have no interest in butterflies. We stopped by on a whim, and didn’t know what to expect. We entered through the gift shop and bought tickets ($ 14 each) which are just hand stamps to get in. The interior is as close to we’ll ever get to tropical in these parts, with a temp right at 80. Thousands and thousands of butterflies flying every which way and of every different color. Tiny little quail scurrying around through the tropical plants. Various lizards, koi fish, and tortoises. Gift shop, dining area, outdoor garden, and a cafeteria. It was Calm and relaxing with music playing, except for the loud people talking, and one staff member laughing like an idiot. Luckily, we came with no child field trips or parties, so we could enjoy it somewhat. The cafeteria didn’t look like the cleanest of places, and the staff wasn’t the friendliest. I just got drinks and chips and didn’t order anything that had to be made. Tips: don’t wear a coat or sweater, and eat before you go.

This is a terrific place to go on a cold, damp, or dreary New England day.
You can walk among the butterflies and tropical plants and enjoy the tropical birds and the lizards! It’s one of my favorite places to go with my mom and we just take our time and enjoy the surroundings. Even the creepy bugs (not as nice as the butterflies)! They have benches to sit and enjoy the warm tropical air and I always feel that I’m getting a good dose of oxygen and humidity for myself.
I also enjoy it in the summer, but I don’t feel such a «need» to be among the tropical plants at that time. They have 2 attached restaurants and some outside outdoor seating for warmer months. When I do visit in the summer, it’s nice to get an ice cream and sit outside.

Can’t say enough nice things about this place! Rainy, cold day, stumbled upon the place in a desperate on-​line search for a way to entertain my 7 and 2.5 year old. From the people who greeted us, to the staff inside, everyone was great. The entrance fee is a whole day pass. They had a scavenger hunt for my older guy. My husband and I enjoyed it. There is a cafeteria attached — we didn’t eat there as the 2 year old was exhausted and we needed to go home. What a find! We’ll be back.

Best place to hang out in the winter! 75 degrees inside! And the staff are friendly. They let you hold the reptiles :)

This place rocks! The butterflies are beautiful, the button quails are absolutely adorable, and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful; they answered every question I had. Very ethereal atmosphere thanks to the warm air and calming, ambient music. I wish I lived closer. The admission is also very affordable. Would definitely recommend.

Nice spot, especially for young kids. The butterflies were gorgeous and it was pretty amazing to see them all over the outdoor grounds. The gift shop was cute, but the food court didn’t like a good option (not many choices and nothing that looked healthy). Overall a very fun place to visit!

This place is a nice conservatory. Staff there is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I never knew there was so much information about butterflies. During my trip, we must have seen over 20 different types of butterflies. Parking leaves much to be desired, but go on a weekday and you are in the clear. It can get quite crowded in there and it is hard to move without bumping into something or someone. Watch your step! Baby quail run around and butterflies like to rest on the ground. There is a treasure hunt like event for kids (adults were invited too). Family fun at an affordable price. Definitely a must see, especially if you believe in the conservation of Earth’s precious creatures. I would definitely come back here in the future, just will make it a point to go during the week.

Great little place to hang out. Spent some time just sitting on the benches watching all of the butterflies. Good collection of lizards too.

Stopped here on a road trip with the family, and we were all pleasantly surprised. You’re never sure if you’ll get your moneys worth from a roadside attraction, but this place was definitely worth it. The butterflies were amazing, the bugs interesting, and we even saw a hummingbird. All the staff we encountered were knowledgeable and happy. They let my daughter pet a Jungle Nymph bug. The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is because the snack bar wasn’t as amazing as the rest. We did get some soft serve and the kids enjoyed it, but not much there for adults.

Very unique experience, you walk in to the lobby and it’s kind of confusing because you. Have to walk through the gift shop to get to the observatory, but then you enter the room and you just are blown away with plants and flowers and butterflies everywhere. I wore lots of cocoa butter so that the butterflies would land on me (it worked!) I was kind of far from where I live, bud definitely worth the drive.

This was a really fun place to stop and enjoy the warm climate and beautiful surroundings. Visited yesterday on a date adventure (we are from CT), it was dreary and quite chilly so it was a good choice to stop. Cool lizards and birds and LOTS of butterflies. I loved all the orchids and plants and many butterflies landed on us, making for fun pictures and laughs. A great date spot and also great for kids! (as long as they aren’t scared, we were surprised to see so many whining scared kids of butterflies!!) Didn’t eat there but any staff we encountered we very nice.

One of my most favorite places ever, lately. A huge place to be surrounded by so many butterflies. Spacious enough where there are moments where you feel like it’s just you and 1000 butterflies (and perhaps a button quail or 2). There are other birds, a giant koi pond, and an area with a vast amount of other inspects. The staff is extremely friendly and I love how they have a zero tolerance for people and shitty kids who think trying to catch the butterflies, even aggressively, is ok. We were told they also do some ‘rehab’ for butterflies who may have damaged a wing by flying into the walls or otherwise, and literally some butterflies have been patched up! So awesome. Very relaxing and if you sit still, one may land on you for a little visit.
A great place for families, but I think it’s probably better to go when it’s during school hours and there’s not a million kids running around.

Yesterday was our first beautiful spring day so we took a car ride up to Deerfield to visit this museum I have heard so much about. It was truly lovely and peaceful. There are beautiful unique species of butterflies of all shapes and sizes and colors– we even saw one with see through wings. There’s a koi pond, and birds walking around, and all sorts of lizards and beetles and frogs to see. Lots of benches to sit and soak it all in, and have butterflies land on you. I think they were attracted to my polish because they kept landing on my fingers.
It was a very pleasant visit, glad we made the trip.

Wonderful place to bring children or to come by yourself. It’s very relaxing just to sit and watch everything. Butterflies landed on us several time and they are so beautiful. Bring your camera! They have butterfly cocoons for sale along with praying mantis cocoons. We purchased both and a few weeks later ended up with several hundred praying mantises outside our home. This is a very nice place to come and spend some time with family and/​or friends. My only advice would be to call ahead and ask if any schools or large groups will be there that day as it can get very crowded and that really takes away from the wonderful experience that Magic Wings offers.

Beautiful butterfly observatory featuring exotic butterflies from around the globe. Great place for all ages, with admission prices on the lower end, making it a perfect day trip destination for the whole family. This is a definite must-​see if you are in the area. Magic Wings is appealing to just about everyone, both young and old alike. Another bonus: snapping up gorgeous photos of these winged beauties mid-​flight or in quiet repose.
The name says it all: there is a real sense of magic about watching these creatures flit back and forth among the trees and flowers. It’s actually very calming. Just park yourself on a bench, sit back and chill. It’s so amazing to watch them in their natural environs, marveling at their delicate beauty. These beauties are in now hurry to go anywhere. It’s just so peaceful and serene. There’s such a multitude of butterflies– it’s impossible to see them all in just one day alone. There is also a nice reptile display to take in. Overall, I found the guides very helpful and they loved chatting with the little ones who were amazed by such wonderment before them.

When you walk in, you can see all sorts of cool bugs, frogs, etc. Lots of stuff I’ve never seen before. The actual conservatory was beautiful, butterflies everywhere and lots of lizards, birds, etc. The employees brought around some of the lizards so we could check them out. Just a really neat place and worth a stop when you are in the area. I’ve never been to anything like this. My husband and I spent about an hour and a half in there!

This afternoon we stopped in at Magic Wings to see some butterflies and were amazed at how beautiful the gardens were. When we entered the conservatory there were a ton of butterflies flying around and it was exciting to see the quails running around the facility as well.
My favorite part of the visit was being able to sit quietly on one of their benches and allowing the butterflies to flit around me. There were a couple of occasions where some butterflies landed on us which led to great photo opportunities.
The building itself was great. They had a large atrium which had tables and a beautiful fireplace. They also had a little cafeteria section as well with a nice seating section. The final nice thing about Magic Wings is that they have a really nice gift shop with lots of amazing items for kids.
The only critique about Magic Wings is that there are limited parking spots at the facility that are on pavement. This doesn’t usually make a difference, but today since it was raining, the parking lot was a mud pit.

Have you ever seen a butterfly outdoors and wished you could follow it forever? Chances are obstructions like highway overpasses and fences probably prevented you from following it very far.
Well Magic Wings solved that problem and placed thousands of butterflies under one roof. Being fully enclosed the butterflies can’t escape their greenhouse environment. That’s great for you. And honestly it’s not too bad for the butterflies either. I mean they have an unlimited supply of food (lots of sugar water everywhere) and they don’t have to worry about getting devoured by predators such as bats. So who’s got it better than them?
The setup is very simple. You pay a fee and then step inside the greenhouse among the butterflies. What’s really cool is that there’s also many beautiful flowers and exotic trees inside the greenhouse as well. There’s also a few lizards (they’re caged) and a few very cute quail roaming around freely (they’re not caged, so be careful where you step).
Perhaps I’ve lived a deprived life but I have never experienced something like this before in my life. I can’t imagine somebody visiting this place on a regular basis but it is something everybody should probably experience at least once in their life. Kids will love this place (parents be watchful of your kids, no touching). Actually, no matter what your age, it most likely will make you feel like a little kid again.
I was going to knock it down a star because of its price. It’s $ 14 for an adult admission. But considering I’m not likely to visit on a regular basis that’s not too bad for an hour’s worth of fun and education. Check out their website for a $ 2 off coupon (offered sometimes throughout the year). The coupon will also get you a free pictured identification chart which normally costs a dollar.
