I always try to support local businesses yet customer service definitely is not key at this shop. I would not recommend to any of my local friends or family.
I was in the Elgin area running errands for my upcoming wedding. I needed to get my engagement ring cleaned, I have gotten it cleaned many times over the past year with no issues at big chain jewelers yet none are in the immediate Elgin area. With all the wedding errands being in Elgin my maid of honor and I googled jewelers nearby and stopped in.
The woman behind the desk just finished up with a customer and the woman was begging for a good review. She then looked my maid of honor up and down with distaste (my maid of honor has quite a few visible tattoos so I’m sadly use to people judging her based on that alone). The woman then asks my maid of honor «How can I help you», while not even looking at me. I state I need my ring cleaned for my upcoming wedding and she was rude about the wear and tear of the ring, asking questions of why I didn’t take it where it was bought and then tried to sell me a $ 70 «Full» cleaning… we took the offer for the free cleaning she offered since the big chains free cleaning always did the job. While she was in the back she was making loud sigh noises… She wasn’t in the back for more than a minute or two. The ring did not look like it was touched by the machine (based on previous cleanings elsewhere). The woman was rude telling me to «save up» for their $ 70 «Full» cleaning soon. I was PISSED when we left, more so about how rude the woman was to us for no reason, then her trying to charge us $ 70 for a «Full» cleaning…
Since I could tell my ring wasn’t touched at all and I only had today to get it clean I later went to Azar Jewelers (South Barrington) who did not ask questions about the ring, nor hesitate to be nice about cleaning the ring and doing it for free. Now it’s sparkling like after every other free cleaning and ready for my wedding!

My fiancé and I want to personally thank Richard’s Fine Jewelry & Design in South Elgin for giving the most outstanding customer service and designing my dream ring! Highly recommended if you are looking to give any type of jewelry to that special someone! We couldn’t be any happier! Thank you so much!

We had a ring made using two older bands that no longer fit my husband. The lady who helped was able to look at the two rings and help us determine how we wanted the ring to turn out. Seemed to know what she was doing. She quoted us a price and said it should be done in approximately 2 weeks. We stopped in yesterday and true to her word, the ring was finished. It was exactly as we wanted it and the final price we paid was less than what she quoted. Very happy with our jewelry and our experience.

I felt well taken care of when I went in to have my charm repaired. She went over a couple of different options because I wanted to put it onto a larger chain. It did seem a little pricey but I received it sooner than expected.
