Compania de Cafe

Stopped by this morning to get some work done and I was met with an unexpected surprise. Compania de Café is closed for business at this location It was such a great place. It’s so sad.

This is one of those places where u just look at it and think to yourself… «i think I’ll be coming here more often» as soon as you walk inside. The ambiance looks really well designed. Delicious pastries and the abuelita drinks are pretty darn good. The staff was on point. They asked us if this was our first visit and they explained their food and menus.
Free wifi. Easiest password ever too lol. Friendly staff
Why 4 and not 5 ?
They had a dj outside who was playing music which was pretty bomb music. I mean he was playing the jams and all but I had came to do some thinking with my cap, some books and my laptop. Its hard to concentrate when your feet are tapping to a cool salsa jams i should come back and get some work done on some other night than a saturday.

This place is great. The dynasty that Tierra Mia had over this town and the neighboring towns was taken down by the wonderful establishment. The keep it simple. They embraced the growing trend of cold brew and do it well. Their almond milk is great. I haven’t had a drink from here that I haven’t loved. The quality of their coffee really shows and the skill involved in making drinks does too.
R.I.P. Tierra Mia dynasty.
Note: They don’t offer creamer or alternative sweeteners. That’s probably the only constructive criticism I can offer.

I’m very much into supporting small local businesses but not when the service is poor & the pricing is outrageous by comparison…

Not a huge fan honestly.
I’ve been here twice and it’s okay. I think their Tortas are pricey and they over hear their pastries. I had to wait for my pastry to cool down.
My second time here I brought my parents and they took about 10 minutes to bring out coffees. I honestly like Tierra Mia better

Amazing spot! Being from DTLA, this reminds me of the cafes in LA. However, I was told that this café is interested in bringing great coffee and the atmosphere of the LA /​City cafes but to communities surrounding.
The service was awesome here! The barista let me know about the café and gave me samples of the tamarind & Jamaica infused coffees. Both were so pleasantly surprising in taste. The Gloria scones were also an awesome pastry to have her. Order it warmed. So good.

This place is new! Staff is very friendly & nice which is an A+ to the café! It’s Mexican based food that I’ve never heard but taste great! I recommend the horchata latte hot! Tasty! & the décor it’s cute kinda like dia de Los muertos theme! Lol
however i really do wish they had a more variety of pastries & choices to there aguas frescas! Other than that I do recommend you try this place out!

–It’s in a big, nice looking plaza, so you can’t miss it. But it is on the street sign (you can see it when passing on Firestone (?) next to Chipotle. It’s in the Azerta plaza
–workers are SUPER friendly and helpful! I walked in and didn’t know where to go because the interior was so cute (I’m a sucker for design) that I was too busy to look where to go to order my coffee. They could tell it was my first time so I asked them for a coffee menu. I sat down at the bar and the guy working asked if it was my first time and helped me figure out what I wanted. He let me try the different types of chocolate syrups they use for the mocha drinks, which were delicious! But sadly, I’m not a fan of mocha coffee drinks, so I had to pass. There was like a white chocolate lime which tasted really good, a «spicy» chocolate, and two other chocolates that were good, but I can’t remember what he told me they were. I got the compania latte (?) which was a plain latte with sweetened with syrup. Which tasted really good! Not too sweet and not too much milk for me.
–Everything in their baked goods case is made fresh daily, some of the items are made at the San Fernando store and shipped to this location in the afternoon.
–Lots of seating (indoors and outdoors) so it is a good location to come to chat with some friends! Not sure how busy it gets, but I was thankful to get there at a «slow» time. I think outlets are limited? There is a table against the window near the bathrooms where they have 4 outlets
–Love their interior! It has a Latin vibe with an American decoration to it. Sound kind of weird, but you’ll understand when you get there. I love their outdoor seating though
–Definitely coming back if I’m in the area or want some empanadas!

This place is very Chicano/​Latino hipster with delicious drinks and pasteries. I’ve been here several times and I’m always greeted with a smile. If it takes a while for you to get a drink, it’s mostly because its busy and that happens anywhere. I recommend la empanada de elote, the rose cupcake, the guava pastry, the horchata latte and abuelita latte. I’ve also had one of the tortas and it delicious as well (I just forgot the name of it).
It is definitely going to give Tierra Mia some competition. I love the atmosphere it creates and how the drinks aren’t too sweet. If you’re in the area, you have to check it out!

Great addition to the south east area of LA. It’s truly a breath of joy to see a coffee shop that is in tune with its surroundings, culture, and likes. The décor is stellar, the bites are tasty, and the drinks range from simple to out of the box combos. If this place served beer or wine, my laptop and I would never leave.

This place is a gem! Mexican American themed spot! Feels very homey. Just like you’re at grandmas house. I’d like to call it the Mexican Starbucks. I highly recommend you come here, our bar tender (and I say bartender because he shakes and mixes drinks at a bar) very knowledgeable about the business and was great at small talk. Me being a seasoned bartender he was great. 5 star on service, 5 star on product quality. The guy who took care if us name was Angel. Great place. I will be back. Wait!!! Latte ART! Horchata latte!

Based on two visits.
This place has great ambience and I love the drinks. The service is also really good. The first time we ordered food. The torta La Adobada was great. The mole empanada was okay, I guess I’m used to mole having more sauce.
Reason for 4 and not 5: their desserts are little crazy. Pan de chocolate con mole, cupcake de mango con tajin… i just stuck to the basic lozeta cookie.

The service is pretty good however the cashier are not coffee savvy. You’d think that they would know at least the basics of proper coffee technique. Also they need better appetizing pastries to compliment the lattes.
Ps: My latte art was messy, it was not clean.

If you ever needed an excuse to get to South Gate, then now is the time. Go straight to Compañía de Café.
Drive fast, not slow. Besides, gas is cheaper now than it has been in years. If you don’t drive, make like Usain Bolt and order an espresso and a galleta or whatever suits your fancy. It’s worth it, I swear.
Today (1÷3÷15) I visited this Gateway City jewel hoping that a hot horchata latte ($ 4.00) would be as scrumptious as I was hoping. I was not disappointed. Very well blended flavors (made in house!). And it was nice and hot in a to-​go cup (upon my request).
I showed up just after 11:30 a.m. after a bit of shopping nearby with my baby girls. Immediately I was greeted by a male barista and a nice lady (Brenda) behind the pastry bar. They had me at hello, honestly.
I ordered my items to go just in case I needed to jet out soon. But then we sat down because I anticipated a wait even as the place was filled only at about 25% capacity.
Not even a minute later, the lady brings out my empanada de elote ($ 4.50) which was really good and warm entirely throughout. She also brought out the vanilla butter cookie ($ 2.50) I ordered for my 18-​month-​old. My daughter’s not really into chocolate and I was hesitant to offer her this one, but she ended up scarfing down every piece I gave her. The cookie itself is a decent size. It seemed too pretty to eat and I loved the messages in the icing (pictures included). While I do not care for cookies that much, I did enjoy a small bite of this one. It was not overly sweet either. Both items were placed upon separate beautiful dishes.
Brenda also provided us with a small paper bag in case we had leftovers. Very thoughtful indeed.
They offer so much more: aguas frescas, brewed coffee, caifanes, mochas, teas… Also — pan dulce, pastelitos, & tamales.
There are several sizes of tables and seating arrangements.
A WiFi passcode is printed on your receipt.
My favorite part, though, is the splashes of Mexican-​American culture throughout the place. You need to see it for yourself. It’s very alluring and inspiring.
All of this in the humble city of South Gate.
There will be a grand opening this Saturday, January 10, from 3:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Provided will be «full menu samples, music, & fun!»
Easy to find. Located on Firestone Blvd, west of the 710. It’s on the right-​hand side if you are headed that direction as just described. Plenty of parking shared with other stores in a strip mall layout.
There’s also one in San Fernando «where the story began,» but that’s a bit far for me right now.

Unilocal challenge 2015 ⁸⁄₁₀₀

Very nice, relaxed and upscale coffee shop. The interior design is influenced by Mexican culture (Frida Kahlo, Dia de los Muertos). It’s a great place to bring your laptop and search the internet and/​or study.
I had the Cajon de Jamaica which is coffee with Jamaica in which they will ask if you want Tajin added to it. I said why not… though I wasn’t a fan of it. Too much going on. I appreciate the uniqueness but I think it’s a little too much.
I also tried their Horchata latte which was tasty but I will say I am still a Tierra Mia fan. Sorry people! I can’t help it. Sure Compania has a better location with tons of parking and it’s not overcrowded but I’m still a bigger fan of Tierra Mia.
I would most likely come here again to try something new. If you want to change it up a bit from your ordinary coffee shop or Tierra Mia then stop by. Or get something at Tierra Mia and bring it here to hang out lol… I think that’s a better plan!

Ordered Abuelita Mocha and Cajeta Latte. Both were good and not too sweet. Just the way we like it.
They also gave my daughter a free reindeer marshmallow dessert. Customer service was great. I would definitely come back. Very cozy ambiance.

I love the décor & the coffee! Finally good quality coffee in this area. I’m used to traveling long distances to get good coffee but this one is right around the corner.

Love this place!
Super comfortable vibe with festive Mexican flare. If you’re in the area and are looking for a great place to sit and have a conversation over coffee/​abuelita mocha or many other of their delicious warm drinks this is where you need to visit. Comapañia de Café also sells pastries, tortas, and empanadas.
The layout is fairly spaced out with intimate seats in one nook, and counter seats on the other side (study lamp included). The shop also has a colorful ambiance, there’s detailed tile, a variety of furniture, and outdoor seating.

No, I’m not talking about that place down the street that serves über sweet coffee beverages and pastries (you know which one I’m referring to, if you don’t, its initials are TMC).
Compañía de Café delivers to you, dear residents of South Gate, a chic exquisite café experience once only relished by those willing to venture out to West LA/​Beverly Hills/Brentwood/etc…all at mind boggling price points.
Did you know, there’s the amazing coffee program brought to you by a well regarded coffee professional and industry veteran, Percy Ramirez (formerly of Intelligentsia and G&B Coffee)? Yes, and you should consider yourself ever so fortunate to experience Terroir Coffee by legendary coffee roaster, George Howell based out of Acton, MA. And then there’s a couple more industry heavyweights you can add to that list: 49^th Parallel (Vancouver, BC, Canada) and Madcap Coffee (Grand Rapids, MI).
What’s more, they don’t cut corners here. You can count on every single thing here being made in-​house from scratch, and that includes their ganaches, almond milk, horchata, and the list goes on and on!
How about some creative baked goods that appear too beauteous to eat, all the brainchild of Tamara Davis formerly of DTLA’s Bottega Louie. Don’t worry, these pasties are not only wonderful to behold, they are also delectable and ideal companions to your caffeinated beverages.
But if you require something with more substance, you might consider one of their mouth-​watering sandwiches or savory quiches.
If you still haven’t been won over yet, there’s Compañía’s hospitable staff that make you feel like you’re family. You’ll enjoy many lengthy conversation with Stephanie and the gang here while sipping on your coffee.
Well, what if you’re one of those people who loooooove loitering and/​or leech wifi? You’ll be happy to know that Compañía has sufficient space equipped with comfortable seating arrangements, tabletops and outlets to make your office away from the office possible. Wifi requires code obtainable from cashier.
Almond Cappuccino: 4.5÷5
It was exactly what I would expect from a pupil of Percy slinging espresso from top tier roasters. This 49^th Parallel Epic Espresso pull by Alfred was on par with what I usually have at G&B Coffee.
Abuelita Mocha: ⁵⁄₅
Undoubtedly, the best Mexican hot chocolate I’ve had in my life! They don’t have to mask their drinks here by making them overly sweet. This was the ideal balance of sweet & cinnamon spice bound beautifully together by deliciously steamed Straus Family Creamery milk.
Horchata Latte: ⁵⁄₅
Most assuredly one of the best horchatas around incorporating a flawless pull of spro by Percy. Thanks for the hook up, Percy! ;)
Filtered Coffee (George Howell Terrior Coffee: Borboya, Ethiopia): ⁵⁄₅
Deliciously complex floral tasting notes presented themselves in this cup brewed on a Fetco. You won’t complain that this wasn’t brewed with a V60, Kalita, or Chemex after tasting this.
Guava & Cheese Empanada: ⁵⁄₅
This is a total different experience than what you’re used to, especially if you’re a fan of Porto’s roll. Compañía’s is super special. Flakey. Oozey. Yum.
Libra de Plantano Cake: ⁴⁄₅
Shaped resembling a Twinkie and highly dense pound cake that possessed a mild pungency.
Pumpkin Scone: ⁵⁄₅
Nothing like what you’d get from $tarbux. This is not going to be «toothache sweet» but a harnessed level of sweetness. You’ll appreciate that since a mild glaze compliments the well expressed pumpkin flavor of the scone and topped by a gazillion pumpkin seeds. Here’s a tip: Have it warmed up!
Compañía de Café is highly addicting and has instantly become one of my favorites. When baristas here take their time and sling excellent spro, this becomes one of the best places for coffee in Los Angeles.

So aesthetically pleasing to the eye. You’ll feel you’ve left South Gate for a cup of coffee. Just hope the guests take care of this new coffee house.
The facility has some nice toys that should make any barista happy to work here. The décor gives it a sleek and innovative look. Seems as though the owners really focused on detail to create a unique atmosphere.
As for the most important part of Compania de Café, the coffee, they carry top notch coffee from roasters such as George Howell, 49^th Parallel, and maybe another well known roaster in the coffee community. The menu definitely has something for the true coffee snobs. I’m not much of a purist myself but I did enjoy their espresso and a Colombian brew.
One thing that stood out was that the staff was attentive and really on top of accommodating guests. They came over to ask how things were going more than once. Things should go swell if they continue providing great service, all the staff was nice.
Thankfully Compania is close to home so I’ll be making my way here as often as I can. Come for the coffee, stay for the ambience.
