Hansen’s Toboggan & Saucer Hill

First time we went, we’re the only ones and the 2 lanes were open. Next time we went with our aunt, uncle, cousin from Bay area, only 1 lane was open cause snow started to melt. 2 other families beside us but it was well spaced out, twas OK. 2 seniors (60 and 72yr old) in our family had fun sliding down the hill, including the tweens. Overall, we had fun sledding. The most gruesome was climbing back up the stairs. For $ 20/​hr per tube, not bad. I saw them wiping off the tubes after us. We preferred it here cause there’s a bit more height than that of Adventures and not too crowded. 9am is the best time here.

We checked into Cabin 3 in Feb 2016. I’d seen the photos but was shocked. One word sums up the cabin. Eeuw.
The door opens to the kitchen which consists of what I can only refer to as a retro ensemble of a well used sink, microwave, and dorm sized Fridge that is kitty corner and noisy. A sign warns guests to leave the kitchen as found, or there’s a $ 50 fee. I could see the sink was left as found… ages ago. I ran my fingertip through the grime of dust etc that had just settled in it. In their defence there was a clean oven mitt and kitchen towel. The flooring was economy laminate.
The Cabin has 4′ high laquered pine boarding throughout, and drapes made from lining fabric. Apart from the lace curtains stretched over the door, and kitchen window.
The bedroom also has a semi shag what I think is termed Utility carpet. The gas wall heater is in the bedroom, which was efficient but noisy. The bed looked fairly new and was comfortable, the well worn bedding was clean. There’s a computer monitor sized flat panel TV opposite the bed, which was a welcome distraction from the hatch leading into the attic.
There’s an adjoining door to another cabin there too… I could hear the people in the other room chatting till well into the night.
All the windows were dirty with grimy sills. There’s one well worn chair in which the seat sags.
The Bathroom, OMG… I didn’t want to go inside, it’s miniscule and creepy. A larger person just wouldn’t be able to navigate in there at all.
The TINY shower is the starring feature in this room, with the plastic panels peeling off the wall. I could have placed my hand between the wall and the panels. (I didn’t) And there was mould in the base where it meets the floor.
The toilet has a well worn brown wood seat and can only be accessed by backing up to it. Once seated, it’s almost possible to rest ones chin on the window sill, which again was grimy. A tall person could rest their chin. The ceiling and walls were stained with yellow blips and again the top of the wood panelling was grimy. It all must have been really groovy when first used.
Needless to say, I kept foot ware on at all times, and didn’t touch anything I didn’t have to.

–2 side by side sledding hills, about 50 yards in length
Park, go the shed and pay, receive a lopsided truck tire inner-​tube with a large air-​valve sticking out, wait in line, go down hill at a medium speed (both sledding hills are side by side, they travel straight for a short distance then curve to the right), walk back up hill, repeat.
Be aware there may be a melted snow water pond at the bottom of each run which will soak you. Wear waterproof pants or bring a change of clothes.
This is not a classy or professional operation by any means BUT it’s good fun for an hour, and that’s about all the time you need there anyway.

OK so I was really not happy with this place because Unilocal said they were open and they actually were closed. We were really looking forward to some fun but again they were closed. There were cars parked in the parking lot and the lights were on inside the building but they didn’t answer their phone.
So here is my advice, until the owner of this place understands that Unilocal is a tool that hundreds of thousands of people use and until the owner realize how easy it is and how important it is keeping their page up to date is. I mean the 1990’s are here to stay and this little thing called social media is kind of working. I’m going to suggest that you don’t tell the kids about this place, don’t make a special trip back to the hotel room and get everyone dressed up for the snow. You should actually drive up to their location, knock on the door and see for yourself that they are open because even if they have a yellow page add, a web site or the amazing Unilocal page loaded on every cell phone in the area they don’t answer the phone and you need to see it for yourself if they are open.
P. S. This place looked so much better then the other tubbing place up the street. What a total bummer

$ 20 per rider ages 5+, cash only. Kids younger than 5 are free. Big tubes for adults, smaller tubes for little kids. We went at 9:45a, and there was almost no line. even toward the end of our hour, the «line» was 3 – 4 minutes.
This is a simple place. Walk 10 steps from the tiny parking lot to the pay hut. Pay cash, get tube. Walk 20 steps further up the hill to the «launch point.» Go down the hill. Walk back up the hill (not that hard).
We did it because our little ones aren’t quite ready for skiing, and it’s a great activity for non-​skiiers/​boarders to do something activish outside!
The repeatability factor is not real high — one hour was plenty, but it’s a fair price what you get. $ 80 for four here, or $ 330 for Heavenly (50 per for gondola, 30 per for tubing at the mid-​mountain tubing area). If you’ve never been up Heavenly’s gondola before, it would be worth it, though, and Heavenly has the «moving carpet» to carry you back up the tubing hill, plus 5 runs instead of the two at Hansen’s.

It is nice for the price point. So much fun. No long lines or waiting, awesome fun.

Fun for my thrill-​seeking 7 year old and my more cautious 5 year old sons.

This was a great, mom and pop place to burn an hour since we couldn’t handle another day of skiing. $ 20 per person per hour. They have two runs but only one was open which was fine. The run was a perfect speed and even a bit too fast in one spot at first but then you get over it and it’s really fun.
Of course the worse part is the trek up the stairs with your tube (although surprisingly light) to take on another run. I probably only did it 4x’s which was good enough. My 7 year old was being lazy and didn’t really want to walk up the steps much or carry her own tube but she managed to go on the run 2x’s without me linked to her.
Would do this again!

Wow, what fun! Our daughter, 3 years old had the best time– as well as me and my husband. We just wanted a fun afternoon and didn’t expect such a great time. We were referred to Hansens by the Marriott. We tried other sledding areas but none had as long of a ride and so many variations. We’ve already highly recommended it to friends!

We had a great time here today with our kids! The sled run was awesome. It was pretty busy for a Tuesday, probably due to winter break. The wait for the tubes was a little long and the parking was extremely limited, but once we had our tubes, the line moved quickly. We got 4 runs in the hour, and our kiddos were spent (as was I from lugging my 3 year old and tube up that hill). Definitely worth checking out. What a fun day!

My wife and I took our kids (4 and 6 y/​o) to Hanson’s in Dec 2014 + Dec 2015 and had fun both times. The staff is courteous and nice. We got in an hour of tubing and had a blast.

It was our first time tubing and we loved it! Tubes were solid, price was very reasonable at $ 20 per person for an hour, and the lines were incredibly fast-​moving. We had no expectations and had a blast! Highly recommend you go backwards! Owner was a very nice, Sir Ian McKellan type. Only challenge was having to walk back up each time; that got tiring. Good places to rest and enjoy the scenery, though :)

As a Floridian, skiing intimidates me so we set out to go tubing. We had an absolute blast here– Troy was a wonderful help, his energy and enthusiasm really made our experience fun. Be sure to try the backwards superman!

The day we planned to go snow-​tubing was rather warm. Hansen’s was only a short drive outside of South Lake Tahoe and the attendant warned us before purchasing that the runs were slow. Rather than pay the $ 20, we watched someone go down the hill, having to push himself all the way. We decided instead to head outside of town to Adventure Mountain, which was much larger and with snow that was relatively unaffected by the warm weather. Hansen’s seems expensive for its size (two runs), but it is considerably more convenient than Adventure Mountain.
It was super nice of the attendant to warn us about the slow slopes, saving us the disappointment caused by warm weather.

We were hesitant about this place, especially after seeing the long lines but enjoyed our tubing experience-​the cost seems steep but you do get five or six trips down in an hour– the service is extremely laid back and the attendants very helpful! It’s best if you arrive with no expectations!

Was hesitant considering the price per person, but since we were almost out of daylight & hadn’t had enough fun yet, we decided to give it a try. It was definitely worth it. The tubes were good tubes, the staff was very friendly, and lines weren’t too bad. The hill was great enough to keep you going back for more. I just wish they had a magic carpet or some other system to pull you up the hill again because those stairs get longer each time (lol). We’d go back again…
My 9 year old gave it a 10 out of 5 stars. :)

Big disappointment. For $ 20, sled down the hill 3 times. It appears that they don’t cap the number of people, so we spent almost the entire hour waiting in line between runs.

Amazing!!! Derek, Troy, and Gilliam all made our snow tubing experience memorable! My sister snowboards, I don’t ski or snowboard & we BOTH had an excellent time at Hansen’s.
I highly recommend this place for people of ALL ages, whether you ski/​snowboard or do not do either! I was petrified at first but Derek & Troy took care of us & made sure we had excellent rides down the hill.
I will definitely go back again. Easily one of the highlights of our trip to Tahoe! 5 stars doesn’t do this place justice! Definitely go check it out!!!
