Evil Twin Studios, the demented team that brought you Theater of Terror and award-​winning Raymond Hill Mortuary, returns this October with an all-​new haunted experience and location that you’re sure to go crazy about. WARD 13 is an intense, immersive, interactive, walk-​through haunted attraction where sanity comes to die.

There have always been dark rumors about the Raymond Hill Sanitarium, but the most disturbing ones center around an undocumented area for the most violent patients where experimentation took precedence over finding a cure. For the residents of the sanitarium, there was one thing they all feared more than death… WARD 13.

For eight insane nights, WARD 13 will electrify you at 1020 El Centro Street in South Pasadena, CA. The haunted attraction will be open Fridays & Saturdays, 7 to 11 PM, October 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 30, & 31. Tickets ($ 15 online, $ 17 at the door) will be available on our website. Proceeds from WARD 13 benefit the South Pasadena Educational Foundation (SPEF).

Evil Twin Studios is a haunt production company located in South Pasadena, CA. Known for «making nightmares come true,» they produce and operate an annual haunted attraction during Halloween season (2015: WARD 13, 2014: Raymond Hill Mortuary, 2013: Theatre of Terror). In the «off» season Evil Twin Studios specializes in creating frightening scenes for film, television, haunted attractions, and private events.

History

Established in 2011.

Evil Twin Studios’ first haunted house in 2013 «Theatre of Terror» was a huge success bringing together children, families, actors, writers, set designers, artists, and haunt enthusiasts who volunteered their time. The Theatre of Terror received rave reviews, ranking as one of LA’s top ten haunts. Television coverage on CBS and KCAL showed our artistic endeavor all across LA and Orange Counties. Guests from as far away as Reno, Nevada, San Diego and Santa Monica came to South Pasadena to visit the haunt. And almost all the souls who entered the Theater of Terror made it out alive.

For the 2014 Halloween season, Evil Twin Studios started fresh with an all-​new theme, «Raymond Hill Mortuary.» The haunt received national recognition and frightened even the bravest visitors with unique and inventive scares. The Raymond Hill Mortuary was bigger and scarier than the Theatre of Terror with over 100 passionate volunteer scare actors and crew contributing to the success

SUPER FUN. SUPER SCARY.
With every haunted attraction, you have to have a good attitude about getting scared, and our group of strangers were all over the spectrum on it. This, however, made it even more fun.
First things first, come here early. The line gets ridiculously long as the night goes on. FunFact: We ran into Matthew Gray Gubler who was waiting for his friends.
Of course there are going to be a lot of pop-​out scares, but that is to be expected. They did it every well with the theme of a mental ward. It was also a fairly interactive attraction. As a participant, you got to talk to some of the actors in character as well as follow their instructions to get to the next stage/​area. This actually might include following the room in the dark, being led around in a wheel chair while being strapped in, or crawling underneath a bed into a secret room!
My friends and I had a blast and we will definitely come again!

Disclaimer: i haven’t been to a haunted house since I was a kid, so I don’t have a ton to compare this to. But everyone tried really hard to make it a high quality experience — you can tell how much detail went into many of the rooms, and how some of the actors keep a straight face while in character and talking to a bunch of giggling people in costumes is beyond me. It’s pretty scary just cause you have no idea when something is gonna pop out at you; in fact, the anticipation of a scare is often the real magic here. Sometimes nothing happens when you expect it to happen, and other times you’re not ready for it at all. The length was also just about right, not too long and not too short.
Couple things I would mention that may be helpful for next year:
— It seemed like there was some confusion about what was supposed to happen with things that couldn’t be brought inside. For instance, one person told us, you can’t bring that inside, but give it to them at the front, and they’ll «watch it and make sure nothing happens to it.» When we got up to the front, we were told, «put it next to the bushes, but there will be absolutely no one watching it.» Those two things sound like opposite to me haha. Maybe just some clarity here would be better.
— It’s a cool idea to have the zombies/​patients walking by people in line and scaring them, but to be honest, after like the third time having the same one walk up to us, I think everyone in our group was kind of like, OK that’s enough haha. Maybe give the actors a break about how continuously they have to be doing this?
Overall, lots of fun and worth the $ 15/​person. Awesome job!

We been to Halloween Horror night and Haunted Hayride and Ward 13 is the best maze by far. It was creative, scary, interactive, and fun. We were one of the last group on Halloween night, so we truly appreciated that talented actors stay in character throughout the night. Thank you for making this one of the most memorable Halloween ever

A for effort. It was cool for what it was. Got there at 6:45pm. The line was long. Bought tickets online and also purchased the Front of the Line pass. We were the first ones in and didn’t wait at all. Finished the whole attraction by 7:30pm with time left for the whole night to do other things. Not bad for the price. Actors were good and the props/​setting was great. I’d recommend it for a little teaser haunt. Today, my wife and I are going to try 17th Door.

In the spirit of Halloween.
Ward 13 is just another example why interactive haunts are my favorite. Unfortunately, I don’t have too much to compare it to this year but for Delusion being out this season. Ward 13 was a great alternative!
WAIT/​TICKETS: Didn’t get the presale? Don’t sweat it. Ticket purchase wasn’t horrible. But make a game plan– «Okay. you get in line, I’ll buy tickets, meet back in line. Break!» Now, the festivities begin at 7PM. If you get there early, just get in line & save your $ 10 for an extra beer afterwards. HOWEVER, if you get there by 7:45PM-later. The front of the line pass is much more worth it.
HAUNT: (NO SPOILERS, don’t worry!) For $ 15/​$ 17, this haunt had a solid 15-​min scare the entire way through. I’ve been to scarier haunts, of course! But I loved Ward 13’s effort! The actors weren’t lousy, you can tell they were enjoying it & honestly, that’s what makes or breaks these haunts all over LA. They either overdo the theatrics where they’re borderline about to touch you or are way too in your face OR their lack of enjoyment just kills the scare. Ward 13 actors definitely had fun even the creepy little ones!
MAIN NOTE: Enjoy the scare (I mean, you SHOULD know what you’re coming in for) & keep it moving!
You will crawl. You will be taken. It’ll be great.
Heads up (s):
— Just come early & avoid the $ 10 front line pass.
— Park on Mission, free parking past 7PM. A couple of surrounding streets are free too.
— Stick to jeans & comfy/​closed toe shoes. My friend’s skirt ripped from the crawling and her sandals kept getting stepped on/​snagged.

This is one of the best haunted houses I have been to, ton of surprises around every corner and it has you on your toes. I read the Unilocal reviews that is why I made the trip out there, and I was glad I did. This haunted house makes it seem its all about you and they avoid having you run into other people walking through the haunted house which is the problem with a lot of haunted houses you will run into at theme parks. They do not make you sign a waiver but there is a good chance you will get shocked and you will have to crawl through tight spaces. The outside of this place isn’t really as done up as you would expect but do not let that fool you. All in all a must go this Halloween.

My first time ever going to an Evil Twin Studios event was three years ago. I’ve looked forward to going ever since then because the production and scare were top notch (though the wait in line was not) and they’re completely different each year. This year is was all about an insane asylum. Came on a Fri night and the line actually moved extremely quickly. Only waited maybe 10 – 20 minutes vs the hour or so the last two years. The production was just as good, but the scare was a bit lacking and I think it’s because of its new location where they had to build all the rooms (which looked great btw) and there were less hiding spaces or ways to scare you as you walked by. The rooms you go through were well thought out and very entertaining and the outdoor part almost felt like a zombie apocalypse. All in all, I still highly recommend for the entertainment factor of it.

Went on a Friday and was surprised it wasn’t crowded, very minimal line.
Most of the same antics used as last year’s haunt, which I actually enjoyed more, but still an overall good lil haunt for the price.
I wished there were more actors in some of the emptier rooms and a little better lighting throughout the maze to better appreciate some of the set designs. Really cool props! The children’s nursery showcased some young creepy talent and a great escape route! I’m looking forward to next year’s concept!

We’ve done Knott’s Scary Farm and Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights many times in previous years, but we’ve pretty much avoided them since the crowds at these places are just overwhelming and unbearable. The long lines of people making their way through the mazes after a very long wait (sometime over an hour wait) make the the mazes exhausting and draining. Definitely not worth the price you pay for in my opinion.
Ward 13 by Evil Twin Studios gets it right! Even though there’s only one single maze, it’s definitely worth it. The actors, the set, and the special effects in its single maze can definitely rival the mazes found at Knott’s and Universal. Very talented actors and special effects set designers and artists at Evil Twin Studios! Would love to share the details, but I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but my favorite part has to be the dark maze at the end. Crazy scary and I was so afraid I’d get nightmares! Just go and experience it for yourself. What separates Ward 13 and makes it a way better experience than Knott’s or Universal is that they send small groups of 6 to 10 through the maze every five minutes or so. Instead of a long line of people ahead of you spoiling the scary surprise, you can never predict what’s in store for you as you go through the maze. At some point your small group even gets separated into even smaller groups of two to three, which makes the experience even more harrowing! Thank you Evil Twin Studios for the amazing experience!
Price is $ 15 online ($ 2 additional at the door), but definitely worth it! They are only open on Fridays and Saturdays in the month of October all way to Halloween from 7 to 11 pm, so don’t miss out!

I loved this place, and so happy my boyfriend found this place! It really made our night. The wait was not long at all, the cost is amazingly cheap for what you get. It was our first time and I can’t imagine how the other years could have been because this was so great. Whoever put this attraction together is brilliant! The actors were so good, and range in different ages from a child to an elder. They make you feel like your in some horror movie. It was so much fun, we had to tell our family and friends about it.
We went to this other horror attraction called Creep LA the same night which was a disappointment, they need to take advice from Ward 13! We also did the haunted hayride so. e nights ago and that place was so over price for the experience you get. I really can say that Evil twin Ward 13 is the best horror experience I have been too! Don’t waste your time or money at any other place!

This is my go to place next year.
I arrived on a Saturday around 7:50pm. The line was already long. Never been here b4, so our group just stood in line. 2 ½ hrs later we went inside. No more than 6 in a group and it was cool because we had 5.
Great interaction and the performances were great. My best part was out in the quad area. Great place for teens and above. I would suggest front of line if you can’t stand for hours.

For the price of $ 15/​ticket, Ward 13 was totally worth it. We also bought front of the line tix for $ 10 more, which allowed us to skip a 2 hour long line. Instead, we waited 40 minutes. Also worth it.
Some parts of the haunt were really nerve-​wrecking, but others were just funny. I was blown away by the set design and the dedication of the actors — everything was so wacky and fantastic. Loved it. The only issue I had was that one of the groups ahead of ours did not move through the maze very quickly. At one point, they didn’t know to walk from one room to the next, so when our group got to the room they were in, our groups combined and we progressed through the maze as one big group. Totally bad idea, so if that happens to you, wait a while for the group ahead of yours to go through before moving through.
NOTES: parking was easy — there is a parking lot across the street from the school with lots of spaces.

Absolutely amazing! I have been to many haunted houses in both New York and LA and this is by far the best one. The theme was awesome, actors were great. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience at such a reasonable price.

This was my second year with Evil Twin Studios. Their last year’s set must’ve been a huge success — the 2 hour wait is an attestation of it.
However, I feel like the whole thing could’ve been organized a little bit better. Each group consist of 5 – 6 people. But by the end of the maze, the group grew to 10+ people because the group in front of ours were slow to progress to the next room. Also our group must’ve moved so fast, we ran into the group in front of us that was interacting with the actor (part of the performance). There should’ve been someone in front of each act to control the progression of the group.
Also, our group didn’t get to experience the «crawl» because the people in front of the line did not want to go through it. We were led to a door behind the room. I didn’t even know that the route we took was the «chicken route» for those who are too chicken too crawl. Had I known this, I wouldn’t have gone through it. Unfortunately, I will never know what I’ve missed.
But overall, the quality of the performance and the props were stellar.

This was a very well done haunted house.
We bought front of the line passes, which I thought was worth it. They put you through in small groups — around six people, which is perfect. You don’t hear people being scared ahead of you. Unlike other reviewers, I wouldn’t recommend bringing kids; I think it’s too scary for them.
Unlike most classic haunted houses, this one has a lot of specific scenes and acting. It has a whole theme of an insane asylum, which begins with waiting in line and having insane residents come by you in the line, and the security guard who takes you in, and… It was scary and very unique and creative.
Be prepared to run, crawl, and more! It’s definitely a haunted house that requires your participation!

These folks always think outside the box and this year is no exception. It’s interactive. I would say more interactive than 17th Door that makes you sign a crazy waiver. The theme here is way more fun. Check it out.

How did I not know about this before??? Fantastic event! As a Haunt junkie, I do the circuit every year — Universal, Queen Mary, Corn Maze (RIP), etc, etc — so my standards are high. I can honestly say Ward 13 was up there in quality. Well worth the $ 15. No spoilers here, just know it’s quite interactive and the people putting it together are very talented. They send you through in small groups ala Old Town Haunt (also RIP) which adds to the experience. The only thing I question about other reviews is «Good for kids? Really?» I suppose older kids maybe, but I’d have been scarred for life if my folks took me there as a tot. Nonetheless, it’s going on my yearly list as a «must hit»!
