Nothing too crazy here. I was super hungry today and the stuff I brought to work just wasn’t cutting it. I decided to stop by the food trucks area here in the Fidi. This spot stood out since I’d never tried it. The lady was very nice here and I ended up ordering a grilled bacon mac n cheese sandwich. It took about 6 minutes to get my order. It also came with a carrot salad apparently. The salad wasn’t that great right off the bat it’s not the highlight of the meal. It cost almost $ 10 bucks for everything which is about the norm for food trucks. The sandwich was just ok. It wasn’t anything too special. It wasn’t greasy or anything which I enjoyed, but it just wasn’t as tasty as I would have liked it to be. They actually don’t pack too much mac n cheese in it, so it actually has a perfect balance of everything inside the sandwich itself. Overall, its decent, but probably not a spot I would go to again.

Tried this food truck at Off the Grid in Emeryville. I tried the«Golden Gate melt» which is white cheddar mac ‘n’ cheese with applewood smoked bacon on a grilled cheese sandwich. As soon as I posted a pic on FB everyone responded with«I want that too!». But, there was no way I was sharing that tasty sandwich. I also really liked the carrot slaw on the side, the chips were unnecessary.

I went to this truck and the Treasure Island Flea in on Treasure Island, CA. First, let’s start with the service — indifferent at best, borderline rude. If you are running a business, I would think return customers would be your goal. Good service can go a LONG way, especially if your food is meh or subpar(which this is). The guy that took our order(bald, with a beard) clearly did not want to be there and I am pretty sure that we were a huge inconvenience to him. If he’s the owner, he is not going to own his own business for long. You kinda have to like people a little, or at least be decent at pretending. He failed, miserably. Second, the food. I expect a lot from food trucks. There are too many amazing ones out there to settle for bad food. My friend and I order the Steak and Cheese Sandwich, a Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich, and an order of garlic fried. The steak and cheese was basically a grilled cheese with a few(very few) pieces of dried meat that was called steak and a lot of grilled onions. Honestly, the onions were probably the best part. I believe the cheese was havarti and provolone(it might’ve been swiss). The sandwich was $ 9. Food trucks tend to be pricey, and that’s fine, IF the food was good. This was not. It had a ton of cheese and onions, but the steak was lacking, and more importantly, it had no flavor. The cheese was actually way overpowering which is odd for me to say because I LOVE cheese and generally pile it on everything. I can’t put my finger on the one thing that made this sandwich so bad, it was just bad. My friend’s description of the Philly Cheesesteak was, «dry and tasteless.» He never shows much emotion over much, but he was NOT happy at the cost of the food, being how terrible it was.($ 10.75 for the Philly). The garlic fries($ 4.50) were the best part of the meal(not saying much). The fries were crispy and hot, and he begrudgingly gave us 4 packets of ketchup(for what was a lot of fries… surprisingly). However, I do not recommend the garlic fries. Maybe plain or cheese fries would’ve been better? The garlic fries were uninspired. A box of fries with large CLUMPS of minced garlic thrown in. Have they considered throwing the fries in a bowl first, and mixing them around with the garlic so it breaks up and spreads among all the fries? Maybe add some cilantro or a sprinkle of parmesan? Overall, this place clearly displays a lack of caring. They don’t give a crap about what they serve or how it tastes. And, they REALLY don’t make an effort to feel like they appreciate your business. If you are going to spend this kind of money on food, spend it on a place that actually serves decent food. This isn’t it.

If you like grilled cheese with tomato soup this is good. I like the cheddar. The soup is cream based. Perfect for a chilly day.

Somehow, I have this preconceived bar set in my mind for food truck food being delicious and amazing and unique. Maybe it’s because I’m used to the delicious offerings from the likes of Koja Kitchen, Señor Sisigs, and others from Off the Grid. However, Cheese Gone Wild is not delicious, amazing, or unique, and it is quite a shame. I stopped by this truck outside of Public Market in Emeryville on a day I was home during lunchtime. Approaching the truck, the person taking my order was browsing on his phone, and not interacting with people or helping in the kitchen as I am accustomed to seeing. This of course, could have been due to the fact that there was no line in front of the truck, nor group of people waiting for orders, as most trucks I see often have(aka they were not busy at all). Ordered the Philly Cheese Steak and an order of garlic fries, spending about $ 15 for this food(typical for food trucks which tend to be more expensive). Took the food home, opened it, and was immediately disappointed. Let’s start with the cheesesteak, which is NOT philly style at all. Instead of thinly sliced steak, there were strips of steak(think fajitas) which were both flavorless and dry. Being a cheese place, they loaded the sandwich with cheese as well, which overpowered the unappetizing steak. Add on unimpressive bread and some grilled onions. I ended up eating a third of it and(shamefully) throwing the rest away. The garlic fries were nice and crispy shoestring fries, probably the main plus of this meal. The garlic itself was very finely minced and either grilled/roasted, or not fresh because it was dark yellow in color rather than the paler yellow of fresh garlic. Wouldn’t have minded at all either way, but the garlic taste was really overpowering and thus didn’t finish this either. Overall, this food truck has simply shown me that not every food truck is amazing and you do have to be picky about the ones you choose to go to… unfortunately.

This review is for the food truck outside the Hiller Aviation museum in San Carlos. Came here on a Wednesday around noon after visiting the museum. There were two food trucks outside of the museum. We ordered food for four people from the other food truck, and just Mac and cheese and garlic fries from this food truck. Our four orders of food from the other food truck came faster than the one Mac and cheese and garlic fries we ordered. Service: 1 star. Not friendly. Food: 2 stars. The Mac and cheese is actually a Mac and cheese sandwich. Except they don’t tell you so you think you’re ordering Mac and cheese but it actually comes in the form of a sandwich. And the garlic fries have SOMUCH garlic it’s waaaaay too strong. We ended up scraping all of the garlic from the fries since it was ridiculously too garlicky. Speed: 1 star. Even though there was a line outside of the food truck, it still came out much slower than the food we ordered from the other food truck. Convenience: 3 stars. Convenient that it was right outside of the museum. Overall I will probably not come back unless I was super hungry and hand to buy food and this was my only option.

I recently ate at Cheese gone wild food truck at he Mountain View Off the Grid event. Being a vegetarian did not have a lot of options but ordered their«CLASSICGRILLEDCHEESE&TOMATOSOUP» and also ordered the«CHEDDARMAC ‘N’ CHEESE»(without bacon) along with their garlic fries. We really enjoyed the sandwiches and the soup was hot and creamy, just what you need on a cold evening :). The few minor things i would like to point out are that the salad had a more dressing than I would have expected and also that the mac and cheese sandwich was a little bland once we removed the bacon(cant complain because it is not how they intended it to be) but a little herb and garlic would have made a big difference.

I decided to try this food truck while I was at the Treasure Island Flea Market. I ordered the grilled cheese(I picked cheddar, but there’s a few different cheeses you could pick) and a cream of tomato basil soup. The grilled cheese was very yummy but a little boring. The tomato soup was honestly the best tomato soup I’ve ever had. It was a very thick soup. Almost like a pasta sauce. But it was SOOOOO good. It was very hot which I liked. I dipped my sandwich in it. It was perfect. I almost want to go back there in hopes of getting this meal again. It also comes with a little side salad which was decent. My mom ordered the mac and cheese with bacon sandwich. I tried it and I really liked it too. The bacon was perfect.

What an AWESOME and tummy pleasing surprise on our way into the Giants game. I’m so glad we stopped and ordered here; WAYBETTER than stadium food. Fresh, filling(big serving) and yummy! CHEESELOVERMUST!

I’m really digging how grilled cheese is in a renaissance in San Francisco right now. There are multiple restaurants(The Melt, The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen) and food trucks around. Judging by the lines at Cheese Gone Wild, the trend is still on the uptick. Pretty well executed and perfect when you’re craving some comfort food. Grilled Bacon Mac ‘N’ Cheese: Very similar to the Mac Daddy at The Melt. Flat, but crunchy bacon. A good amount of melty cheddar cheese. And some carb-on-carb action with tender mac & cheese between two toasted slices of bread. I guess the only that I’d add would be more butter on the bread, but other than that, it’s pretty solid. Side Salad: Bleh. Romaine lettuce and carrot shavings. Why bother? Cream of Tomato Basil Soup: Chunky and creamy. Perfect to chase each bite of the grilled cheese with. The ample amount of cream helped cut the acidity usually found in tomato soup. Very Berry Strawberry Lemonade: It was indeed very berry centric, with a generous amount of strawberry purée. It kinda tasted like a Strawberry Agua Fresca with some lemon, but in a good way. Since I’m a strawberry fan, I was loving it.

First time trying this food truck and appreciated the variety of choices(burgers, soups, sandwiches) as well as refreshing drinks. Food took about 5 – 10 minutes and was nicely presented. Our order: Strawberry Lemonade — tangy and sweet. Perfect for the warm summer weather. Grilled Cheese with Tomato Bisque Soup — standard grilled cheese served with a side of salad with a touch too sour vinaigrette dressing. The soup was quite good though. Creamy, delicious and chunky. Chili Cheese Fries — solid. Could have used more chili but the French fries and cheese are hard to go wrong with. Philly Cheesesteak — $ 10.75. Nicely sized sandwich filled with sweet peppers, mushroom and provolone cheese. The steak was a bit too course and I really think this was more a steak and cheese sandwich than a thinly sliced Philly Cheesesteak. Steak was a bit over cooked and not really flavorful enough. Overall, this was a great spot to try. Spent $ 30+tip on above so prices add up for fairly simple fare but it is filling and tasty. Plus they take credit cards including American Express.

OMG this really hit the spot. I got the Golden Gate– the mac and cheese sandwich. I love the tang of the sourdough and its crispiness contrasted with the soft cheesy macaroni. It came with a nice side of salad. It’s comfort food on the go and delightful.

Not sure how anyone who has tried the Bacon Cheddar Mac and Cheese could rate this lower than 5 stars. It’s got the two main delicious food truck food groups, bacon and cheese(check, check). The Mac and Cheese in this sandwich makes it comforting, rich, and with the sourdough bread and bacon puts this sandwich over the top for me. Oh crap, I noticed I was drooling as I was writing this. Gotta go clean myself up…

The best thing about Cheese Gone Wild was that it was stationed right outside the front doors of the Fort Mason exhibit hall on the day of the Chocolate Salon. With a belly full of chocolates and other confections, I needed something savory in a hurry. There were three of us and by the far the best thing was the Bacon Mac-N-Cheese grilled cheese. However, everything else was disappointing. The regular grilled cheese didn’t have great flavor, the tomato soup was boring and the chili cheese fries were disappointing too. If you are in a pinch, their food is fine, but there’s got to be better out there.

Enjoyed Cheese Gone Wild at a Dreamworks party. They were serving up a standard grilled cheese and a mac and cheese with chips and watermelon slices. The mac and cheese sandwiches were really fun to try. Who wouldn’t want to try that? I could have used more gooey cheese, less bread but they were still good. I really enjoyed the salty chips. I couldn’t stop eating them! The watermelon slices made it feel like summer time.

I found this truck at Sunnyvale’s ‘Off The Grid’ and liked the look of the menu. Turns out it tastes even better! I got the steak and mushroom sandwich grilled cheese style with a side of garlic fries. It was very fresh and tasty. The bread was grilled and crispy with a hint of butter, nice piece of steak complimented by grilled onions and mushrooms. The fries were crisp and crunchy with fresh minced garlic on top. While I want to try everything at ‘Off The Grid’ I may end up eating from this truck a lot! See ya soon Cheese Gone Wild!

I was rolling my Work Whip Big Ken to Sunnyvale’s Off The Grid. Its held every Thursday. This is where I found the Cheese Gone Wild Truck . I noticed they offered a Philly Cheese Steak Sammich . So I ordered one. I had my Sammich in 10 Minutes. It was well Constructed and a good sized Sammich. I enjoyed it. It tasted great. I would order it again.

The gist: As a vegetarian, not worth your time. The Exploratorium seems to be the only one on the menu, and it wasn’t really a grilled cheese. See Esther S’s review for the same details. They provided a side salad to make $ 9 seem more worth it, but what was the point? It wasn’t dressed, and was really just mixed greens and shredded carrots. There were a few tomatoes, to be fair. The lady running the truck seemed nice and friendly, though, I will say.

So we’re at the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon at the Marina Green to support a few friends that entered the race. I’m starving, it’s cold, and parked near the finish line was a Cheese Gone Wild food truck. I see a line, I smell food, and I couldn’t wait to dive into one of their grilled sandwiches. Just the day prior, a friend even raved about Cheese Gone Wild. Yes, I was actually excited about getting something from a food truck. Then there’s the wait and the food. I didn’t have a problem with the wait since there was a fairly long line and only a handful of cooks. I was just a little disappointed with my meal. I got the Alcatraz Island, which was grilled steak, cheese, mushrooms, and onions. Sounds good, but I ended up getting a soggy sandwich and a little more steak would have been nice. Taste wise, I give them 3 stars. Don’t get me wrong, Cheese Gone Wild came to the rescue because I was hungry and wanted something hot. I didn’t hate my sandwich, my taste buds just didn’t think they were anymore than A-Ok.

Found this place at truck stop in FiDi. I got the Exploratorium. Sigh. Should’ve gotten something with meat. I was thinking it would be grilled cheese but it was more like a toasted sandwich with blah bread and soggy eggplant, mushroom, and peppers and this soft soft cheese. It tasted good but the textures were off and I was disappointed by the bread. Should have known. There were loaves of bread for show on the truck. Like. Regular. Bread. Why? And the cheese part!!! They should have done it more like grilled cheese what with a name like Cheese Gone Wild. I could barely find any cheese on my sandwich! It was nice that there were kettle chips and coleslaw but neither tasted that great and overall the food felt too pricy for the taste. $ 9 for the meal and then $ 3 for lemonade. Wait it should have been $ 2 based on their ad… Hmmmmm? The strawberry lemonade is not bad but the puréed strawberries taste like aloe vera chunks just smaller. The lady managing the cashier was very friendly but it was kind of to the point where I felt like I was doing them a favor ordering from them next to the epic line at Koja Kitchen. Cheese Gone Wild, please work on the cheese part, accessories, and bread. Won’t be back.

I got their De Yum Philly and the first sight of it was melted, oozing cheese all covered on top of grilled onions, mushrooms, red peppers and beef! It was all bunched up in a sammie and laid out next to chips and coleslaw. It was all a good combo meal to order up, but the flavor of the Philly just wasn’t there for me. It needed more spazz and spice-it-up taste to it. Same goes for their coleslaw. It wasn’t creamy, but plain old Jane. They offer other cheese melts, but the Philly was what caught my eye and what I went for! I shelled out $ 10.75 for it. It fulfilled my yearning of a Philly, but it didn’t quite hit my ultimate taste buds.
