E Plus Studio Karaoke & Cafe

Great, inexpensive Chinese food. Orders are prepared quickly in general. Usually I get food to take out here, though I have eaten on premises. I’m not an expert on Chinese food, but I’m happy with the selections I’ve tried so far. One of my friends, a Chinese lady, says they are a fave of hers. when she visits, we often stop by here for dinner.

Horrible experience. Rooms stink heavily of smoking, the room was extremely dirty and the floor was still sticky, the song list was 5% of what is normally found at ktv’s, first remote didn’t work, stereo was horrible, and it’s $ 38/​hr for 2 ppl. Now I still wouldn’t have given it 1 star until I just found out the girl gave herself an 8 dollar tip and just asked me to sign. The only thing she did through the 1 hour we sang was change the remote and even that I had to explain 3 times to her why it wasn’t working. Extremely unhappy with this place, never will I go back nor should anyone go if they want to have a good time. There are a ton of very nice ktv places in San Francisco such as Vioz.

My family and I went there after shopping at Costco.
We went there for the food because we didn’t even know they have karaōke. Since karaōke seemed to be their main service, we didn’t expect the food to be good.
There were four of us, and we ordered chicken steak over rice, duck rice noodle soup, seafood fried rice, and baked spaghetti. The food was unexpectedly good! A lot better than the Costco pizza and hot dog. Will never have Costco food next time when we finish shopping at this Costco cuz we have found a new spot!
The restaurant owner was very friendly.

I would give this place negative stars if there’s a option. This place is absolutely disgusting. Rooms filled with cigarettes, they allow people to smoke everywhere. Horrible food. Disgusting service. Karaōke doesn’t have books, you just have to try your luck and find the song. Horrible sound system.
To top it off… this is a hostess bar. I can’t believe this kind of place still exist and it isn’t illegal. And the girls are not cute. 9 out of 10 have bad plastic surgery and looks anorexic. They don’t speak English either. And yes they will sleep with you if you pay enough money… they will even strip naked in front of you for money. Absolute no shame. Disgusting. I only know this because my boyfriend’s friends goes to this place and we went one time for his friend’s birthday. So ladies, if you man is going to this place– it’s definetly not for the food or karaōke. Don’t take the crap of «oh I don’t care about the girls, I’m just going to hangout with the guys». Hmmm really…
Oh and the bathroom is sooo nasty.
And E Plus– I’m going to report you because it is illegal to smoke in restaurants/​lounge in California. Go study the laws and please… learn some English.

Business hours state that they’re open until 1:30am. They were closed at 11:45pm. I find it highly unprofessional to post business hours that a business doesn’t actually follow.

I was on the fence between a 2 and 3 star rating, but since E Plus is also a restaurant and has food and drinks served to your private room, let’s call it a 2.5.
The first couple times I went to the restaurant was solely for the food, since a friend spoke so highly of it. We had the scrambled egg over rice with shrimp, baked spaghetti, deep fried calamari, and a few other dishes. For drinks, we ordered soju, but the only option available was to open a huge bottle for about $ 30? I was impressed after the first visit, because the food wasn’t bad and we got a short tour of the karaōke rooms, which seemed really nice and spacious compared to the other karaōke spots I’ve been to.
It was the visit for actual karaōke that turned me off. My department decided to do a team building karaōke HH after work. The room that we got was mid-​sized and fit about 10 people, but it REEKED of cigarette smoke. Funny, since there was a giant NO SMOKING sign on the door. Choosing a song to sing proved to be difficult since there was no booklet, and you had to sit by the small screen in the corner of the room to scroll and select songs, which only showed up to 4 per page. We made do with what we had, but I don’t think I would go back.
Apparently after 8pm E Plus becomes a ‘members only’ karaōke joint. whatever that means…

Ate lunch there and ask for water with lemon. Pretty shocked how generous they are with lemons. 3 slices of lemon. Even more shocker wen I saw my bill. Charged me $ 2.95 for sweet lemon tea (cold) which is my 3 slices of lemon water. Waitress said that’s how the business charge for water with lemons. I could have gotten them a bag of lemons across the street for a cheap price. Never eat here again. I hope the owner read this. They don’t deserve a star to begin with.

Not the best place ‘coz kinda small but the food is great. Most of the time we order lunch here thru EAT24 and everything is fine. It’s nearby our work and picking up is easy.

This place is good but has MSG and it also has small portions and expensive prices, however the food is still tasty. A relatively small restaurant with decent food and high prices.

E Plus Studio used to be a fun treat for me and family once upon a time, but things have drastically changed in this place.
FIRST VISIT: The first time I experienced the changes of E Plus was when I came a couple months in hopes of putting a bad day to rest with some ABBA, but was turned down by security in front of the building. He said reservations were required in a very stern manner, and if we didn’t have em that we had to bounce. We asked if we could make a reservation and yet again, they say no. They didn’t explain anything to us, so we asked if this was a new rule they had just started. They said it started a couple months before. We weren’t even allowed to talk to the people who actually worked there.
SECOND VISIT: In hopes that things shaped up in the joint, I revisited with a friend. It was a weekday night and there was no way the place would be packed, but the same exact thing happened. We came in and the same security guard that had turned us down was the ONLY «customer service» around and asked if we were on the list. What list?
Then, he talked to this man who was eating with a big Asian group at the café for the list or something, asked us for our names, looked for us, and said we weren’t there (obviously). He then told us that the place has changed into a night club and you need to call in after 6 PM. We left. While we were in the car, we called them and asked if we could make reservations. «Sorry, members only.» AGAIN, WTF? Where was this guy at the front desk anyway? There wasn’t anyone there a second ago!
BOTTOM LINE: idk what’s going on here.

Back a year later and I don’t think I’ll ever be back.
PROS: The worker in charge knew how to use the karaōke machine, so she was actually able to teach us this time.
CONS:
*Rooms smell like cigarettes. First off, I’m pretty sure it’ll illegal to allow indoor smoking in California. Although there were smoke detectors in each room (we saw two rooms), it was odd they didn’t do anything about the fact that the security cameras in the rooms were covered by napkins… this only makes me feel like sketchy things go on in here… (They also have a sign outside showing the hours, and that only members get to karaōke from evening to close… I wonder what privilege it takes to become a member.) I also saw cig burns on the couch.
*Pricey. $ 38/​hr is already a bit steep and they tried charging us the full $ 38 for 45 minutes.
*Dishonesty. The lady working initially tried charging us an hour but we had to tell her were only here for 45 minutes. The receipt showed a charge for $ 38 for 45 minutes. wait. I thought it was $ 38 for 60 minutes.
We had to ask them to correct it, after the fact that we had just told them we were only here for 45 minutes. She called someone over who seemed to be her boss and they decided that 45 minutes would cost $ 35 since 15 minutes less is $ 3 less. We did not know how they came up with those numbers so we asked. We were expecting them to pull out a price list/​menu or something to show us that 45 minutes would be $ 35 but they didn’t. Instead, they pulled out their calculator and started madly punching in numbers. At one point, I saw them punch 38×45 ($ 38×45 minutes). They were obviously having trouble calculating the price per minute. We told them the correct calculation. 45 minutes came out to $ 28.5.
On top of that, they charge a service fee which is about twice the cost of tax, and then they leave room for you to tip them again on the receipt.
*Doesn’t look out for the customer and only wants your money. I was reading other reviews, and it seems like they have small rooms for ~$ 28/​hr and executive rooms are ~$ 38/​hr. Why on earth did the lady working give us the executive room when we only have 4 people… she didn’t even offer us a choice. What makes me more upset is that when we first came, we asked for a menu, or the prices, and they failed to bring it to us. Instead, the lady who greeted us disappeared, and another lady came out a bit later and tried to rush us to a room mumbling «$ 38». ignoring the fact that we asked again for the list of prices.
At least this year, the lady working knew how to use the karaōke machine.

Review is only about the food on takeout. I’m not much of a karaōke guy.
Tried the pock chop and chicken over spaghetti, club sandwich and fench toast. Spaghetti dishes were pretty good, nothing to complain about. Club sandwich had an Asian twist to it with some egg added inside… I liked it. French toast oddly had peanut butter inside… is that an HK/​Asian thing? I didnt mind too much although I expected different and it would be a HUGE problem for someone with peanut allergies. Just saying, seems dangerous not to detail that. Garlic bread was over toasted and was almost as hard as styrofoam.
Their HK iced tea was nice and flavorful. Would probably try this place out again for the spaghetti dishes.

What’s funny is, most people would not give this place more than 3 stars because it’s just a café, but I was addicted to their Seafood Fried Rice with XO sauce! Lol. Spicy and flavorful! And probably full of MSG hahaha.
Their popcorn chicken was really good too!
And the real winner of all…

Most expensive karaōke place I’ve ever been to. Got charged $ 38 an hour for a small room on a Saturday night, and got charged for 2 hours when we were there more like 1.5…
Also, they charged us 2 hours even though we got there at 12 and they close at 1:30.
Equipments are also outdated. Takes forever to select the songs we want.
15% service charge automatically added to our party of 3 and they tried to ask for more tips with the square reader.
Disappointed overall.

A group of 9 of us came for dinner and our experience was very meh. The food was okay. There are many cafes similar to this one in SF that are much, much better.
Service was alright. Nothing to rave about. There were moments where there was zero staff around. Even when we tried calling for someone behind the counter, there was no response. Made it difficult to get what we needed. Also, since we were dining in the café and not in their karaōke rooms, it was very strange that the bouncer came to tell us they were closing soon rather than the staff that had been waiting on us.
The waitress repeated all our orders to us correctly but still managed to not put in the last order, so my boyfriend ended up without his order. Fortunately, the portions of my order and our appetizer was enough to get him through dinner. That’s one good thing here: the price you pay is great for the portion sizes. The quality of food however, is lacking. The flavors were very off. Even their ketchup tastes different.
I may come back to give their karaōke a try, but definitely not for their food.

Hmm… where to start???
First of all, OVERPRICED, FALSELY QUOTED, and RIPPED OFF!!!
Came here with some friends after dinner… called the place first to see if they had a small room. Said they were sold out, but would give us a cheaper rate for another room so we rushed over there, took us about 15 mins. By the time we got there, (might I add, even with a lot, parking wasn’t easy) it was 11ish and the gal in the front said our quoted room was sold out. Wtf? That’s why we called in the first place?! …so she would reserve it for us!
Anyway after a bit of scrambling, the lady finally got us a room. $ 28 was quoted. They also had a special going on for soju, buy 2 get 1 free. The carafes were huge. Since the we were gonna be there for a while, we ordered that and some chicken wings too. By the time we got settled in, we were told we had to move. Wth?! The lady convinced us that we would be more comfortable since it was a larger room. We thought, there’s only a few of us, we don’t need that much space. But she said she would honor the same rate.
So after getting settled in, for the second time, I thought it would be gravy, but it got more complicated cuz I couldn’t figure out the remote? Seriously?! Had to flip catalogs on screen, not knowing what to press, no quick search method, and NO directions on how to operate the darn thing. Thirty mins later, I finally got it operating and picked some songs.
Around 1:30, the security told us we had to leave cuz they were closing. We had about 1&½ carafes of soju left and asked if we can save it for next time. That was not an option. We asked if we could talk to the lady about this, figuring she was the manager, but she was no where in sight. All we got was the bill… and it was outrageous! $ 300+ for just a few hours?! @$&+%?!
Total rip off! It appears that we never got the discounted rate cuz no way does $ 28 x three hours equals that much… or did they charge us extra hours? Or that makes me question how much does alcohol cost? Or could it be the overpriced chicken wings? Much like the other negative reviews, looks like they quote, but never honor rate. Seems like trickery here, that’s bad for business. Nevertheless, it was horrible from the start. I shuda known.
Save ur money. DON’T come here.

E Plus Studio has become one of my favorite karaōke places because it’s clean, smoke-​free, and the service is pretty great; oh yeah, I guess the safety is great too. The security at the door check your bags for I don’t know what… maybe booze or weapons or something. They also have video cameras in each room so if you want to sing your heart out on the tables or couches, then this is not the place. Other than that, the drinks and food selection is nice and reasonable.
The sound systems and selection of songs are pretty good. I was amazed they have some of the newer stuff despite the videos were one of those lady posing around town. Parking is okay – there’s a lot and street parking.

Time to get your sing on, guys! I’ve been to E-​Plus twice now and I can say that compared to other karaōke places, this place is pretty darn good. Can’t complain about $ 20/​hour rooms (5−9pm), $ 38/​hr regular price after 9pm, split between 10-​ish people? That’s like $ 2 – 5 bucks an hour per person, guys. Worth it. Yes, this cheap asian did the math for you.
THE ROOMS:
Clean, SHINY. And I don’t mean shiny just because it’s clean, but quite literally SHINY because the walls, floor, and table all have glitter embedded in them! An employee will walk you through glittering, blue-​lit hallways to your room — it puts you into a different mood and gets you ready to really get weird in the room ;P. You will end up petting the walls at least once when you come here, depending on how much you drink.
Large booth chairs, AND 3 extra cushiony stools, so you could fit 8 – 10 people comfortably in the Executive Room even though their menu says 5 – 8 people. Clean, roomy, with enough table space for beer and food. Large TV in the front of the room, space in the front around the TV for more performance-​inclined people to get up and dance while they sing. 5 stars for the room!
SERVICE:
Service was adequate, they always arrived quickly. A service switch is on the wall (looks like a light switch) for you to call over any employee whenever you need, just flip it on until they pop into your room and they’ll turn it off when they arrive. However, when I ordered a round of food and drinks, we only got a portion of the order (popcorn chicken), and the rest of it (fried rice and beer) seemed to have been forgotten. «The kitchen is a little backed up» they said when I reminded them half an hour later, and then my food and beer arrived promptly after reminding them. Should’ve been written off the bill for making me wait that long, I feel, but I didn’t want to kill the mood by haggling with the server then and there.
Note: There is a service fee added to the bill when you’re finished. We treated it pretty much as gratuity since they added it in. Came out to $ 3 per person for the service fee, so not too bad at all.
THE KARAOKE SYSTEM:
Ok, so this is where I docked a star. I much prefer the touch-​screen systems that I’d expect new karaōke places (anywhere built within the past 5 years) to have. But this place has what is apparently a program running on a desktop computer, with a monitor that is controlled through a remote. It’s confusing to use for anyone that’s new to E-​plus. Luckily, I’ve always come with people who have been before to teach us how to choose songs.
Last night, the computer crashed on us once — stopped mid-​song (ironically, during «Party like it’s 1999» by Prince), and we had to call a service person in to restart the computer. It rebooted quickly, but we had to reselect our songs, and it obviously stepped on our groove in that moment.
Cheesy 80’s stock videos will show up for songs that they couldn’t get rights to the MTV videos for. That’s perfectly fine by me, all part of an amusing karaōke experience. Decent English song selection, missing some popular songs by some artists, but they do cover a wide gamut of artists, old and new (minus Metallica).
FOOD:
I mean. I don’t expect a karaōke place to have 5 star cuisine, and I’ve never been here just to eat at the café, so I’m fine with my average fried rice and popcorn chicken to nosh on while I’m wailing away to Aerosmith. Cheap enough for Chinese food ($ 7.95 for fried rice, $ 3.99 for popcorn chicken), and LARGE PORTIONS! The fried rice could be split between 2 hungry people or 3 semi-​hungry people. I’m just happy they’re not overtly trying to rip us off with the food here, as I’ve seen in other karaōke places.
DRINKS:
Now where they do earn your money is in DRINKS, as most people typically need some liquid courage to sing their hearts out. Beer is $ 5-​$ 5.50 for a SMALL bottle, but they don’t say on the menu how much LARGE bottles are, and they are $ 9.50 for a liter bottle, if you ask an informed employee.
I’ve been here twice already, and it’s always been a BLAST, so I’ll be coming back especially because their room prices are so darn reasonable!

I’m not a karaōke person, but the specials they advertised in the front drew me in. Came with a friend and at first we thought the specials were only for lunch so we ordered off the menu. But after we saw the huge sign on their wall, we checked with the server who told us it was all day, so we asked if we could change our order, which they did.
Food was ok, nothing bad but nothing special either. I had the chicken and corn over rice which was a large portion so I was able to take about half home for later. My friend had the pork chop which was pretty good too. We noticed the special was supposed to come with a drink and soup so we had to flag down the server to ask for those. Soup tasted basically like boiled water with some carrots so I skipped it. Drinks with the special is basically your soda selection or you can upgrade to a milk tea or other drinks.
Probably wouldn’t go out of my way to go eat here, but its not a bad option if I don’t want to eat cheap pizza and hot dogs from Costco across the street.
