San Francisco Bird Hotel

I feel very comfortable leaving my birds here.
They are well cared for, the place is clean and spacious with lots of toy stands. My birds even get spray baths! Highly recommend.

Birgit and the SF Bird Hotel have hosted Sid on many occasions– and I wouldn’t consider leaving my baby with anyone else! Excellent care. E.g. Sid prefers nuts, despite the overall need for fresh fruit and veggies. We’ve tried on many occasions with him, but no go. Once I came to pick Sid up for SFBH and I was touched to find fruits and veggies put into his bowl anyway. Never too late to try!

What a wonderful asset to the Bay Area this is. I have never seen anyone work as hard as Birgit and yet, she still somehow manages to love what she does. It is so much fun to visit that my teen son considers it an «outing» like a trip to the zoo, only better. Our Meyers Parrot is always happy and well cared for and it is such a relief to be able to go away and know she is in good hands. The only down side is the location, which pretty much forces one to get on the highway (traffic) to get to it, but it’s an ideal spot for this business otherwise.

What a wonderful find! Birgit took great care of my always-​afraid bare eyed cockatoo, and with all the other birds around, he settled right in and seemed to really enjoy himself. She even posted a video of him dancing, which is the best video I have of him! Now I’m afraid he’s going to be lonely back at home, with only my husband and me. Thanks Birgit, for the outstanding care, daily updates, and your dedication!

My little guy (parrotlet) had a fantastic vacation for the past 3 months: he was loved, well-​fed, kept very clean, and given many opportunities to socialize with the other residents. Birgit and her team made gave me peace of mind while I was out-​of-​country.

We’re SO very happy to find Birgit and her SF Bird Hotel. Our much-​loved 20 year-​old Meyer’s parrot stayed at the Bird Hotel for 19 nights in September, and it was obvious when I picked him up that he had been very well cared for and happy there. I like that the birds are not over-​crowded, health checks are required of clients, the birds get some fresh food items every day, and there’s some natural light. Also I like that the small, medium, and large birds each have their own areas. Birgit and her crew were wonderful and very caring, easy to correspond with, and they even posted a few pics online of our little bird guy during our trip.
It is so very difficult to find a good and trust-​worthy bird-​sitting situation, and I am extremely conscientious, devoted, and downright fussy about the care and well-​being of my parrot. I highly recommend the SF Bird Hotel and will not hesitate to trust our precious avian family member with the Hotel again.

Birgit and her crew are awesome! Indy, our 1 year old cockatiel, has stayed at SF Bird Hotel several times since last fall. Every stay has been excellent and I have always arrived home to a safe, well cared for, happy bird (the only problem is that he usually doesn’t want to leave!). On his stays Indy has been in the small bird room (in his own «castle») where he has attended some cockatiels-​only parties. I haven’t seen one in action but the birds look like they’re having a blast in the photos. (Birgit always is happy to provide updates and also has a great Facebook page for checking in on your bird’s stay). Indy also had a spa day — a nail and wing trim — during one of his visits and the groomer did a great job. The birds get time out of their cages, fresh fruits and vegetables and plenty of one on one attention (it’s amazing!) during their stays. Thank you Birgit and team for providing such a great service!

Birgit and crew are amazing. I couldn’t be happier to have my 21 year old Blue & Gold Macaw stay at the SF Bird Hotel. She’s great with birds and knows how to handle them and all their crazy personalities. She’s always responsive and even sends you pictures or posts to Facebook to stay in touch.
The Bird Hotel offers all the amenities you can imagine (nutritious food/​treats, toys, clean cages, grooming if needed).
Her space is huge and filled with happy birds singing, chatting and doing what birds do. The best part — when I come to pick up Sammy, he is calm, happy and on top of his cage with other macaws nearby. I love that he’s not locked in a cage all day and that he can interact with his own kind.
I don’t know what I would do without my trusted SF Bird Hotel. Seriously.

Update to my last review:
I didn’t think the Bird Hotel could get any better… but it did! The new location in South SF is amazing; roomy, beautifully decorated, (a little noisy!), and spotless. Forgot toys or food? You can pick them up in the store! As always, Birgit and her staff are kind, considerate, knowledgeable and so amazing with all of the birds. My little guys are always excited to get to the hotel and never want to leave. I highly recommend.

I can’t say enough about Birgit and the folks at SF Bird Hotel. We left our Umbrella girl for the 1^st time, a stay of 6 days. Leilani is a rescue, only with us 1 ½ years. I was so anxious about leaving her, fearing she feel abandoned, blah blah. Silly Me! Brigitte is the true ‘bird whisperer. Her knowledge of ‘breed need’, innate ability to read and connect with her ‘guests, the bright cheeriness and cleanliness of the place, healthy food and lots of play time — I could go on and on! The cages are immaculate and properly sized for breed. Birgit was able to match my own cage dimensions, so Leilani had her own perches, toys, and her accommodations felt like home. She was bathed and fussed over, and when I walked in the door for pick-​up this morning, she showed ME by walking over to Birgit and snuggled with HER first (Cockatoo Bird pout, lol!). The peace of mind is priceless, I’d recommend SF Bird Hotel to anyone who loves and sometimes needs to leave their feathered kid (s).

In reading the other reviews about Birgit, it is obvious that my feelings are shared with everyone!!!
We have two cockatoos (a Goffin’s and a Moluccan) and we travel to Europe for lengthy amounts of time often. Well, «often» is the key word here, because we had not felt comfortable leaving our birds with anyone and had not gone to Europe for seven years because of this. My family is there so I feel I need to go often, but it hadn’t happened because of our birds. We found a place that was more or less okay in Nevada and would actually take them there previously. Obviously, this was expensive and extremely inconvenient for us as we live in Pacifica.
Anyway, I’ll stop blabbing about that, but the point I’m getting at is that we would take them wherever we thought we needed to for them to be well cared for. I went on Unilocal and found this place! I couldn’t believe what I was reading and that they were so close to me. Also affordable! Jack pot!!! We went to check it out for ourselves and it was awesome and we immediately knew they would be happy there. Such a variety of birds, play stands, play rooms, etc… Easy decision after meeting Birgit.
So once we were gone, we got pictures on Facebook, stories about their «goings on» and much more. Also, if I ever contacted Birgit via e’mail or whatever, she would get back to me right away! One of the nicest things she did with our birds while we were gone was to pair them up with their same species. She also tolerated our Moluccan landing on her (or more like crash landing on her!) and hanging out on her shoulder. She let her follow her all the time (she loves that) and even suggested another Moluccan (Tango) for her to hang out with on a play date in the future which are free if you are there with your bird/​s. Unfortunately,“Pooh” the other resident Moluccan was not interested in her or any type of matchmaking even thou’ Birgit tried.
I could go on and on, but many by now will have gotten bored and not even got this far. Summary: Birgit and the SF Bird Hotel are AMAZING and I too would give them a million stars if I could just like someone else said! THANK YOU Birgit!!!

Birgit is amazing and a natural with birds. Our Sun Conure is very critical of new people and she warmed up to Birgit on her very first visit. Birgit is reliable, friendly and very considerate in the care that she provides for our Conure. Birgit sent us cute and creative pictures of A. every day to let us know how she was doing. She even contacted us when we were out of the country during flood season to let us know of an apartment issue that occurred and helped solve the issue.
Once we moved out of Birgit’s area, we tried a few other bird sitters, including a veterinarian boarding service. The people were nowhere near as caring and thoughtful as Birgit. We are now traveling over an hour to bring A. back to Birgit’s area because we trust her entirely with our Conure’s care and know that she will be happy with her.
We are thrilled to have Birgit and her friendly staff to take care of our precious family member. Chelsea is also a welcome face for our Conure, whom she took to right away.

I absolutely LOVE this Bird Hotel. It is so wonderful to hear that there are hotels for birds. This is definitely our second home for our pet bird when we go on vacation. We have a pineapple green cheek conure, and we have left him there a few times. He always seemed super happy about his time there when we collected him.
Bridget is super amazing with the birds. She is so hands on and very attentive to all the birds. The other staff are just as amazing and friendly with the birds. This place is very cozy for the birds, and we feel very comfortable leaving him there.
It’s also pretty fun dropping him off and collecting him. There are lots of other exotic and beautiful birds on every visit. I love doing a quick peek and seeing all the other beautiful birds vacationing there. Last time, I got to pet a toucan. It was the cutest thing ever! I have never been so up close and personal with a toucan.
Bridget is also great with posting photos. We were away on vacation for 2 weeks last Xmas. We missed our pet bird, so we asked how our pet bird, Pineapple was doing. She immediately posted photos of him with another pineapple green cheek conure on facebook. I would recommend liking her Facebook page. There are always fun, daily updates of the birds on vacation.
The cages are very clean and well maintained. Our pet bird gets a nice and healthy meal on his stay. There are many great selections of food to cater for your bird’s diet. We also like that he gets playtime with other similar birds. We feel great that when we go on vacation, it feels like our pet bird is on his own mini-​vacation. I would highly recommend this place for a bird stay. The location is also great if you heading to San Francisco Airport.

I would give this place a million stars if I could. The owner is an extremely nice lady. Very accommodating to your situation & most importantly, you can tell that birds are her passion.
The way she interacts with them, how comfortable she is with all the birds, it’s obvious that she ENJOYS what she’s doing.
The place is very well kept, keeping in mind that there’s 50 birds or so occupying it.
My boyfriend & I left our sun conure there while we were on a short trip & I must say, I love coming back to that place to see all the birds, it’s a very nice experience. She basically gave us a tour & answered all our questions (like a free zoo lol).
She has birds of all sorts: cockatoos, conures, macaws, African Greys & everything in between. We’ll be using her services again (:

I used to take my conures to that other bird company in the city until their unacceptable lack of properly keeping their cages clean infuriated me enough to NEVER go back. I thought that was the end of non-​family bird-​sitting. UNTIL… I found this bird haven.
This is one of those businesses that should be allowed more than 5 stars for a review. SF Bird Hotel is a WONDERFUL asset to us birdie parents who need someone caring, reliable, and really responsible to take care of our feathered babies when we go on vacation. I’ve been taking my jenday conure Joey and sun conure Gino to Birgit for almost 2 years now. They absolutely ADORE her! Birgit (pronounced «beer-​get», not «burr-​jit» like I’d been saying for too long… sorry Birgit!) is an AMAZING human being. She is literally The Bird Whisperer. She truly loves birds– you can tell by the way she talks to her feathered guests, and how they all respond to her kindness and attentiveness. If you know anything about birds you know they usually don’t like anyone but their owners. But she is special. The rates are totally reasonable. The facility is SUPER CLEAN and I don’t know how she does it but she manages to give all her guests plenty of individual attention. She makes sure they get fresh food and water everyday. She even gives them a fresh fruit cocktail every morning… now that’s love! She places the birds according to size in different parts of the hotel so there’s no chance of any problems… They all get to socialize with each other (the ones that want to, anyway.) so Joey and Gino have made some friends. :) Check them out on some of the uploaded photos! Anytime we leave Joey and Gino with Birgit our minds are at ease. I know they’re happy and loved while we’re away. I’m SO thankful I found Birgit and SF Bird Hotel!!! You are amazing!

My husband and I have been going to Birgit’s bird sitting business for years. She is amazingly organized, very clean, but most of all she loves birds! We and our birds consistently have great experiences with Birgit, and we give her the HIGHEST recommendation.
If you’re looking to leave your birds with someone who will take very good care of them, the San Francisco Bird Hotel is for you.

Was so nice to be able to leave my flock for a week and not worry about them (okay maybe a little but that’s because they’re my babies). Received texts everyday with updates and came home to find everyone happy. And the cages were clean! I highly recommend Birgit as she really «gets» birds and wasn’t intimidated by my temperamental Nanday. and that’s saying something!

Birgit and the San Francisco Bird Hotel have watched our sun conure many times over the past year. Birgit is extremely caring of our best friend and goes out of her way to keep my wife and I updated while we are away. We strongly recommend Birgit as she is a very warm person who knows birds extremely well and always accommodates us with enthusiasm.

Dropped Oliver off today at the SF Bird Hotel. He seems to really enjoy the new place in South SF. Seems also to be happy to see his African Grey friend, Boogie!

Birgit and her staff are amazing. Every time I drop-​off and pick– up my parrot from her house, I see clean cages and well-​cared for animals. Always fresh fruits, veggies and water in the cups — so we never worry about our bird’s diet while we are away.
The birds get plenty of attention and affection, which means my 3 year old Eclectus comes home happy, bathed/​clean and immediately starts singing and talking. There are clearly no signs of neglect or a bad time at The Bird Hotel!
Birgit is a very polite, professional and caring woman. Her rates are also reasonable given the amount of work it takes to care for these animals.
