Po melvins is a great lunch place, it’s always really busy but definitely fast and efficient service. It’s really huge, and as someone else mentioned it’s not a place you go for atmosphere. It’s a place you go when you want huge portions of grandma’s cookin in a hurry! They have everything you can think of from a southern menu, such as fried pork chops(my favorite), black eyed peas, corn bread, sweet tea etc. It’s got a cajun flair to it as well, in case you are in the mood for some Louisiana fried catfish… The owner is from Louisiana, so there is LSU memorabilia everywhere. Several of my friends meet here for lunch pretty regularly, and when he saw them wearing LSU shirts one day he stopped and hung out at their table for a while, telling them stories of when he was in school back in the day. Overall just a great lil’ down home eatery that won’t disappoint. The biggest reason I like Po Melvins is the crawfish pies. I am a crawfish pie connoisseur and I love these minis!

When I think of some good old down home cooking, Po Melvin’s is the place for me. One thing that I love about this place is that the food is always consistent and it never lets me down. Today I had my favorite, Chicken Fried Chicken — French Fries — Greens & Yams. This stuff was so good, as always. They have other good items on the menu as well, such as roast beef, pork chops, catfish, etc. The roast beef with rice is excellent and the pork chops are slamming. I almost forgot — Red Beans and Rice… I hear that they have an all you can eat breakfast buffet on the weekends — never been but I definitely plan to check it out soon… only 6.99. Check it out and let me know what your thoughts are… Peace!!!

It’s southern food… which tends to be all fried… ahem. But that said I am not keen on fried food too much and the atmosphere isn’t great… but I remember eating at one of the origionals in Dallas when I was a child when my mom would take me out to eat, so it makes me feel good to have chicken n’ dumplins because of childhood memories. It’s a good place if you like southern food though… kinda boring though.
