Specialties

Southwest Cycle is a full service bike shop that sells and rents road and mountain bikes, repairs all brands of bicycles, and sells clothing, shoes and accessories

.

We sell bikes ranging from all-carbon road bikes made by LaPierre, Bianchi and Fuji, to cyclocross and touring bikes made by Bianchi, Gunnar, Redline, Salsa and Surley, to mountain and hybrid bikes made by Bianchi, Fuji and Redline, to children and toddler bikes made by Torker. We take pride in fitting all our customers to their bikes including adjustments to compensate for muscle weaknesses or balance problems. We also have experience with folding (Dahon and Breezer) and electric bikes.

We rent road, cyclocross and children’s bikes for use on the paved and carriage roads. We also rent child seats that fit on your bicycle (up to 30 lbs), trailers that are pulled behind (up to 60 lbs), and tag-along bikes that allow children to pedal without requiring them to balance a bike. We can put a bike rack on nearly any car so that you can take your bikes to the carriage roads here on the island or even to the Schoodic Peninsula.

We try to expedite repairs on your bikes, so that you can use your bikes on vacation. If your bike requires unavailable parts, we will rent you replacement bikes at a reduced price.

Finally, we will be glad to assemble your bike if you ship it to us via UPS or FedEx, and we will also box it for shipment back. Assembly and boxing is about $ 50 depending on the complexity of the bike.

Meet the Business Owner

Bob S.

Business Owner

Prior to opening Southwest Cycle in 1981, I had worked in 3 different shops in New York and Connecticut beginning in 1974.

I’ve always loved fine, handbuilt steel bikes and have several in my personal collection.

I try to ride up Cadillac Mountain as many times each year as my age plus 1. (I need 58 in 2011). I have achieved this goal every year in the last 10 except one.

I enjoy a short ride with my son (Bing) as much as a 25+ with friends. I would like to do a cross country ride with my wife and son in the next 10 years. I’ll need that much time to decide which of my 12 bikes to ride.
