We Build Cheesesteaks. The Italian Place has been building Steak & Cheese Sandwiches for over 30 years in Utah Valley. The first Italian Place opened in Provo, Utah in 1972 and we have been serving our famous Steak & Everything to our faithful customers ever since.

Our signature sandwich, The Steak & Everything is sliced Steak (seasoned with our secret blend of spices) grilled to perfection with provolone cheese, green peppers, mushrooms, onions & tomatoes or trade the Provolone Cheese for Cream Cheese and make it a Philly. We also have Pastrami, Turkey & Ham Sandwiches.

We introduced two new sandwiches in 2009, The Zeus & The Thor. The Zeus has quickly become a favorite among loyal IP customers. It has our IP Signature Steak, Pastrami, Banana Peppers, Provolone Cheese, Tomatoes, Pickles, Mustard & Mayo.

History

Established in 2008.

Our story begins with a colorful character that came to Provo from the East Coast in 1972 and opened a hole in the wall sandwich shop that built cooked bell pepper and steak sandwiches. Sawdust covered the floor, tree stumps doubled as chairs, and the walls were covered with photos and stories of Mobsters (hence he named it ‘The Italian Place’). After nine months in business he got restless, sold his little business for $ 10,000. The new owners opened a 2nd Provo store on Univ. Ave. and another on State St. in Orem in 1974 then began franchising and by about 1977 we were in 8 states. We sold out to an out of state franchisee, then ended up re-​buying it when they defaulted on their purchase… and it’s been in the family ever since. We didn’t do much with The Italian Place during the 90’s (only the Orem State St. store was open) but have opened 4 new locations since 2005. We are now the second generation of the family to own/​operate The Italian Place and we hope you love our sandwiches!

This restaurant is the BEST sandwich/​salad shop in UTAH COUNTY!!! The meat is flavored so perfectly I can’t believe it!!! It’s always busy at lunch, but they are extremely fast. We go there often for lunch. Good variety, try the Steak N Everything, it’s what they are known for. Clean place, very friendly staff, consistently perfect every time! Nice to have in Spanish Fork. Unilocal is awesome, because you can get an idea of a restaurant before you go. THANK YOU Unilocal!!!

Wonderful cheese steaks and salads. Their garlic bread is especially amazing! Try to avoid the lunch rush though, the wait can easily be 40 minutes.

This place confused me and I really didn’t know what to expect. It seems the specialty is the «Philly» but the name is the Italian Place. I’ll take it as an inside story and leave it at that.
The Philly was good, not great. Definitely a better dining option than I am used to in this neck of the woods but I had hoped for more. Cheese options were sparse and I really was hoping for a Whiz option. There wasn’t a ton of heat to the sandwich and the peppers were kind of sparse.
Here’s the win: You get a lot of meat on your sandwich. You get a really tasty bun. You get about 30% off what the big-​hitters in SLC charge for their Philly’s.

Their cheesesteaks are ok. Nothing truly special. The country music they were playing while I was waiting for my food took away from the so called «Italian place». A little too much pepper on the meat but the bread was excellent.

Great flavors. Lots of grease. Lots and lots of grease. Which when it comes to eating a philly steak and cheese, that’s what I expect – the good kind of grease, the kind that drips off fatty, delicious meat.
I also felt that the portions were good for the price point, and that this restaurant needs a nicer space to help increase their client base (though I know they’re popular) and make me feel better about eating there. It is a little bit dirty.
Even so, it’s definitely worth the trip.

There’s something so comforting about The Italian Place’s Steak-​N-​Everything sandwich. Not only does it take me back to the 80’s, but it’s flavorful and satisfying. I order the half-​size Philly-​N-​Everything, (cream cheese instead of provolone) and I’m stuffed. Their standards come with sliced steak, green peppers, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes. They also offer some great-​sounding sandwiches and salads I’ve never tried. It’s going to be my New Year’s resolution to try something new here at least every other visit, because I’m not strong enough to cold-​turkey my Philly.
Be prepared to eat any of their sandwiches while fresh and hot. I’ve delayed eating for a variety of reasons, allowing the sandwich to cool off. This transforms it from a sandwich of wonder and deliciousness to something looking and tasting like The Walking Dead. You may as well toss it if this happens.
I try not to go during the lunch rush because the place is nuts. I’ve never eaten in here, but would if necessary. The dining area is clean, pleasant, and seems to be well-​appointed.
Service is typically passable, without much personality, but who cares… the sandwich is great. They’re usually fast getting your food out if there’s no line, and although it’s not cheap (like it used to be!), the prices are not unreasonable for what you get. A 4″ (half) is $ 5, the 8″ (full) is $ 7, and the 10″ (monster) is $ 9.39.
Not your traditional Philly Steak sandwich. This is Utah’s own version. Try it. You may like it as much as I do.

I’ve been eating at these since my uncle Mark took me to the one just south of the BYU campus back in the mid 70’s. The sandwiches are always the same and really tasty. I love them. I do have a hard time eating at this particular location though as the dining room is ALWAYS filthy. When I’m really craving it I still go there but it’s hard to eat with everything so dirty. To give you an idea, the front door looks like the glass has never been cleaned, every table normally has spilled soda, crumbs etc. (mushrooms, cheese, chunks of meat) all over them, the chairs are sticky and there is normally trash all over the floor. The staff is always friendly but it’s not so busy that they don’t have five minutes an hour to go out with a soapy cloth and tidy it up. I’m giving it three stars because of the filth. I’ll change this rating if they ever get it clean.

These aren’t traditional, authentic Philly Cheesesteaks. They are «pepper steaks.» I think they’ve adopted the word cheesesteak, due to the explosion in popularity of the Philadelphia delicacy. These sandwiches haven’t changed a bit since I was a kid in the 70’s and there’s no reason for them to change. The Italian Place has added several new sandwiches and variations over the years, but the Steak N’ Everything is still where it all begins and ends for me. YUM!
And contrary to some douche-​wad, this location is NOT CLOSED! It’s open for bizness.

When you think of a cheesesteak sandwich, or maybe I should say when I think of a cheesesteak sandwich in the Salt Lake area, I think of Moochies, but that was before I found The Italian Place.
Now I’m not saying that the Italian Place is better than Moochies, but I am saying that it is at least as good!
The Italian Place cooks their steak with some spices that gives each bite a real pop, it is as if the meat is peppered. I order the eight inch (the full as they call it) with steak, cheese, onions, and peppers and then I sit back and savor each bite.
The roll is fresh and firm, there is nothing worse than a soggy roll when you are trying to enjoy a cheesesteak and you will never get that here.
The meat is great, tender with so much flavor.
The only negative that I have is that they need to put a few more onions and peppers in each sandwich, but that aside, great cheesesteak sandwich that you will enjoy.

As mentioned in my countless other reviews of sandwich places, I’m a self proclaimed Sandwich Connoisseur. So I found this joint on Unilocal when I was stuck down in Spanish Fork for work. Don’t be fooled by the name, The Italian Place has quite an identity crisis. For being Italian, they sure serve a lot of hoagies filled with something that looks to be more like a cheesesteak. Just a humble observation…
Because I’m sort of legend in my own mind, I wanted to get a sandwich named after a legendary figure. Clearly «The Zeus» was just the type of meal that could satisfy that need of mine. The sandwich was filled with hot fresh Philly meat that was cooked so fresh I couldn’t eat it when it was first served. The sandwich was filled with pickles, peppers, tomatoes and lots of cheese. The pickles gave the sandwich a salty flare combined with the normal spiciness of the hot peppers. I think the tomatoes are a bit out of place on that type of sandwich but you can always take them off if you feel the same as me. It was on a hoagie roll that was fresh but by no means made on site. Overall it was a good fresh hot sandwich.
I pared my meal with a bag of potato chips selected from their wide assortment. They also have Coke products on tap. This seems to be a rarity of the more local joints in town from what I’ve found. Enjoy the delicious coke, because it seems Spanish Fork is Pepsi territory.
Overall it was a flavorful fresh sandwich from a local proprietor. The portions were good, the price was reasonable ($ 9 w/​chips & drink) and the restaurant is clean. I still maintain that for a place called the Italian place, its odd that they feature and push so many cheesesteaks that seem closer to something from Philly than Italia.

Love this place. Their Steak n’ Everything sandwich is my favorite. The sandwiches are huge. The establishment is clean & simple. I heard they give a discount to law enforcement. And I always take a handful from the bowl of mints on the counter. I recommend it.

I have been a fan of The Italian Place since back in the day. I was ubber excited when they opened a shop in Spanish Fork.
Their sandwiches are amazing. Personally I love all of them and have to rotate my selection around. I love getting them to go and taking them on a picnic.
