Gorgeous work. Whenever my kids are not sure what to get me for a gift, this is where they go! Always phenomenal pieces, each unique and amazing. Lots of choices in the galley, or you can commission something. This place is a MUST-​STOP if you are visiting Spencer.

Amazing glass blowing! Their pieces are beautiful, it’s a fun place to shop. We love stopping in to watch a glass blowing demonstrations. Whenever we get visitors we always take them in there, everyone loves it!

Bogenrief studios is absolutely awesome experience! High recommend to at least visit and let the magic of the art take over. Jesse is a true gentleman in every sense of the word. We are from Virginia and were reluctant to buy any pieces because of the road trip possilites. We couldn’t not think of leaving there without buying at least one or two pieces. Can’t wait to get them home and in the very near future get more

Bogenrief Studios is Reason #3 for Why Gayle Loves Iowa. #1 is the Butter Cow at the Iowa State Fair and #2 is the Deck from my Parent’s Cabin on Big Spirit Lake.
Jesse Bogenrief turned the cavernous old Spencer, Iowa post office into his live/​work space. The main floor has a back workspace where Jesse blows glass into stunning works of art, to the delight of visitors who can watch this red-​bearded giant (at least 6-​ft 4-​inches) in action. Shelves in the main area display Jesse’s work, all arranged by color from deepest cobalt blue to the palest gossamer green.
We go there every year when we are in Iowa, and even though we vow to leave empty handed because there is no more room for Jesse’s pieces, resistance is futile. Plus, his pieces are easily half the cost of similar works in California. On our last visit, Gayle got two smaller pieces, but left without the orange bowl pictured in this post. There will be a next year and maybe a postal shipment in between.

I absolutely adore everything at Bogenrief Studios. My real obsession, though, is their wine glasses. I was gifted with both stemmed and stemless glasses this Christmas and adore them.
My chic, urban friends cannot believe that glasses as cool as these could possibly be found in rural Iowa. I’m so happy that Bogenrief has settled in Spencer and love what they bring to the community.
If you’re ever in Spencer, this is one place you must stop!
