Chateau Inn and Suites

Had a miserable experience last night at the so called # 1 hotel in Spring Lake. The room that we had reserved and carefully researched was not available when we went to check in at 5pm in a snow storm. I needed a low floor room due to a back injury. Initially the staff person was very dismissive and said that she had a different room but that was all she had and we could leave if we wanted to. Later in the discussion, she did find an alternate that would have meant I would be sleeping on a pullout bed (for the same original cost. (not ok with me). Then, after deciding to stay anyway, we were informed that if we moved our car that there probably would not be spaces in the lot and we’d have to park at the train station and walk back (in the snow storm). She did call later and offer another alternate — but by that point we were settled in.
The room was nice but up very long flights of stairs. Heat was either too much and required that we open a window right by the beds or freezing if we kept the heat off.
All in all not the mid-​winter rest we were looking for and certainly not deserving of its rating. Definitely be aware if you require any special considerations due to medical issues!

This place was great from start to finish! We had walked in to see if there were any rooms left as we were not happy at a different local place. The woman at the desk was very accommodating, nice and helpful! We got lucky, someone was sick and we were able to stay here. The room was updated, clean, quiet and perfect for what we needed. The continental breakfast was fabulous as well. I would recommend this place to all friends and family!

I’ve been coming here for 10 years, so obviously I like it. I did notice a few changes this year, though. Rooms are still nice & I love lounging outside after a day at the beach. Very convenient to beach & they offer free towels & beach chairs. I just feel they really struggle with the staff. When I checked in the gentleman was super nice to me, however; I saw him on the grounds throughout my stay & I would say «hi» and he just gave me a blank face. Very odd. The continental breakfast goes til 10:30. I arrived at 10:15 everyday and the person working the room was already clearing up & putting items away. She cleared the tables of all utensils, too. One day I literally was taking my last bite of my danish and she came over to take my plate. I get that she probably wanted to leave as soon as service was over, but it was kinda rude and un-​welcoming. I noticed they were extra cheap with room amenities this year. After the 1^st night I had ½ empty bottle of lotion and they took it when they cleaned my room and never replaced it. Same with soap for sink. For $ 300+ a night I would think they could throw me an extra soap & some lotion. When I checked out I didn’t even get a «thank you» or «how was your stay». Every year after I pay my bill I wonder to myself if it’s really worth it… because it ain’t cheap that’s for sure. I’d feel a lot better about my stay if the staff was more welcoming…

Very poor customer service. Reserved a room and had to cancel on the same day (exactly 9 hours later) due to funeral arrangements, services and family complications.
I was still charged over $ 700 for the reservation, despite the same day cancellation. I don’t know of any other business that would hold someone accountable for these charges under the circumstances,.
The policy is a «bad weather» policy and the weather was perfect (80 and sunny) on both days we were scheduled to be there. Those rooms were clearly not going to be reserved.
This business clearly lacks customer service and heart and doesn’t deserve anyone’s business.
If something similar happens to anyone reading this review in the future, call your bank immediately and dispute the charge. Wells Fargo took care of this issue for me completely and I was refunded my money.

Stayed here for my wedding anniversary loved everything about this place friendly staff beautiful room and the inn was In a great area. We can’t wait to come back!

Wow, horrendous awful customer service!
I was enamored by the look of this place, as I’ve passed it in person and when I saw it online. It looked quaint and lovely. I even prematurely started recommending the place to friends, coworkers and family.
But this morning I learned that a big storm was heading towards the area on the days of my reservation. Naturally, I called to ask what the policy was on rescheduling my dates. Most hotels will not issue a refund due to bad weather, which is understandable. I was hoping that they’d have some vacancies, and I’d be able to shift dates and pay a rescheduling fee. I was prepared for them to tell me that no rooms were available on such short notice. I didn’t have high hopes, I thought I was being reasonable by simply inquiring.
But I was alarmed and disgusted when the man who picked up the phone said in a condescending and impatient voice, «we’d go out of business if we give refunds to everyone who cancels» — — um, WEIRD! why was he so angry, what an awful way to start the day, to yell at someone first thing in the morning.
I told him I wasn’t trying to cancel, nor was I trying to request a refund. I was simply asking him to tell me the policy on rescheduling. He then asks me when I’d like to reschedule for, and before I could answer, he mockingly says, «whenever the weather is nice?» — — His response was so bizarre and childish that I immediately told him that he was extremely rude and that I wanted to speak to the manager. As soon as I told him he was unprofessional and immature, he turned into a normal customer service rep and explained his policy and went to go check to see if any vacancies were available. In the end, I was told that there were no vacancies.
Alas.
Too bad for rainy weather. No one’s fault. And I understand that it’s the risk we implicitly agree to take when we make vacation reservations.
But that weird rude man this morning, WOW, I hope that it was just one of his «off» days, I mean, most people start getting cranky by mid-​end of day, but to wake up and start belittling customers first thing in the morning, well, that takes an extra special personality. And since his character is in question, I don’t trust that he actually checked to see if there were vacancies. Maybe he was still being spiteful and didn’t really check. Needless to say, I’ll retract all my recommendations to friends and family about this place. Who knows how awful the service would be in-​person.
What a shame, when I first called to book my reservation, the woman who answered was very pleasant and gave me such a great impression.

Staff was wonderful and the suite was quite large, clean and comfortable. Our visit to the area was under difficult circumstances, not pleasure, and the staff went the extra mile to make our stay as nice as possible. Only reservation is that we could hear the guest in the next room snoring. We were in Room 1 and not sure if this is representative of other rooms.

I had a very wonderful experience here. Checked in, girl at the front desk was very sweet. She had black hair and glasses, loved her! The hotel had pink lemonade and ice tea along with cookies in the lobby. They also had an assortment of complimentary tea and coffee with sugars, honey, etc. Room was breathtaking! Along with the room being super clean there was a dvd player and in the lobby you could rent any dvd free of charge. They have free bike rentals which is a short ride away from a lake and the beach! The parking spots had little lights that turned on at night which was super cool. The hotel is in a perfect location, everything is super close so you don’t have to drive much! Overall my experience at this hotel is wonderful it is a lovely place with lovely people!

Every time I recommend this place everyone has the same reaction. What a quaint place to stay in such a cute town –my town. The rooms are homey and the staff is fantastic. My niece once left a valuable piece of jewelry in a room and when she called the next day, they had It waiting at the front desk. You don’t see that kind of honesty much anymore. A wonderful place to stay!

Love this place. So close to downtown Spring Lake and the park, right across the street. Also, the beach is right down the road, about 4 blocks.
The place used to host stars of yesteryear, Anne Margaret, the Barrymores, and many others. They named rooms after these stars that visited and used to throw party’s for them in the courtyard with all the Spring Lake elite. They’ve given up this practice but I’m sure many stars still frequent this getaway, as they have kept up the high standards they set many years ago.
The suites and rooms we have stayed in are updated and well appointed and this place has been and still remains a true Spring Lake establishment.

We had a great time. The staff was great. The grounds were beautiful. The location to the beach, restaurants and shops is perfect. We had breakfast, bike rentals, and free movies included with our stay which made it even better. The hotel room size is on the smaller side, but the hotel was built in the 1800s. Overall, I definitely plan to go back.

Loved it here. Especially bike rentals that were included in the price. Also very friendly staff who made us feel very comfortable at all times. Fives minutes away from ocean.
Wine shop 2 minutes away :)

This was such a pleasant hotel. The rooms were spacious and clean, the staff were friendly and courteous and the complimentary continental breakfast was good.
They also have complimentary bikes for guests to take for a cruise around the lake or to the beach!

Great place! Cozy rooms with big tubs, fireplace, wifi and balconies… Highly recommended for a quick weekend couples getaway.

Stayed here for a weekend. Staff was very friendly, rooms were nice although a little small. The layout is interesting and unique. I will be back.

At first, I was hesistant to pay over $ 200 for a room in Jerz but this place was very Bed and Breakfast like, super cute! Firstly, the neighborhood was gorgeous! Service was friendly and funny. The bed was large and comfortable and they gave us free cookies/​muffins in the lounge area. Would come again.

We decided to head out to the shore for a change of pace from the city. We found a great deal at Château Inn and Suites and headed out Friday night…
Rooms: 3.5 stars
The rooms are large, beautifully decorated and very comfortable with a Calfornia King Bed in the middle of a large bedroom. The bathrooms are nice and the shower and amenities are alright. Sadly, our room was missing a mini-​bar for alcohol and treats.
Staff/​Service: 2.0 stars
We got in a little later in the night and the staff was not very kind when we arrived or even attempted to be considerate. They just gave us our keys and headed back into their back room. Service was not good.
Food/​Drinks: N/​A
Location: 2.5 stars
It is located by the train station so thats a plus? There’s only one bar nearby and the area’s pretty dead at night.
Ambiance: 3.5 stars
The hotel is very cute and I bet the set up is great during summer time to go to the beach and have a place to chill and be comfortable.

A nice room with a really big and comfortable bed. Service was absent and the location is not somewhere to have a great time at night. I’m interested to see what the Château Inn is like in the summer time

I stayed here for a weekend trip in order to get out of the city and spend some quality time with my girlfriend. And it was great! The room was clean, spacious and very comfortable.
The staff was friendly especially Nicole, who gave us great suggestions on where to eat and drink. Nice restaurants are just a short cab ride away and you really can’t beat walking/​riding bikes on an empty boardwalk at dusk. The area is beautiful and Château is equally charming.

I would definitely not recommend this place.
Raze it and build something nice.

After exiting from the nearby NJ Transit station, my wife and I finally found the Château after a wrong turn in unfamiliar environs. (Hey, having a star lit sky, clean air and safe streets is quite disorienting at first!)
I’d place the Château in the category of bed and breakfast plus– 37 rooms provide enough space and guests that you don’t feel like you’re intruding in someone’s actual house. Nor do you feel that forced socialization is required. You can do your own thing in a comfortable, friendly and cozy setting.
And that accurately describes the main room, to the left of the lobby where you’ll gather for continental breakfast, free wi-​fi, magazine reading, tv watching or just lounging about eating free cookies in the evening.
Given the primacy of food on my noggin’, I present the continental breakfast scene:
Firstly, there’s a sign in sheet where room numbers and how many guests will be partaking. Quickly sign-​in, find a seat and help your self! I like the efficiency of such a system.
Coffee cake, donuts, bagels (with bagel slicing machine and toaster available), oatmeal, granola, juice, scones, mini muffins neatly rounds up the offerings. What was slightly annoying was that the only free table wasn’t cleaned so I had to claim the table, pile up the previous occupant’s residue and wait for someone to take it away. Minor nuisance but in a setting as relaxing as this was, not at all problematic.
Instrumental versions of the Gershwin songbook filled the air.
And the bite sized breakfast carbs were fresh and amply resupplied.
On to the room… to be exact, a classic suite.
Going back to 1888, the Château has seen its share of famous guests. Names such as Buster Keaton and Basil Rathbone are found on top of the doorway by the first level suites.
Two rooms, with a fireplace, four poster king size bed and bathroom with jacuzzi. (Jacuzzi shower tub, to be exact, not separate). Large flat panel tv’s, carpeting.
I was initially concerned that since our room was almost next door to the Spring Lake fire dept that we would hear some noise or that the nearby train track noise would be deafening. Not so! The only noise we had to contend with was perhaps the ghost of ol’ Basil Rathbone himself. We’d hear a strange tapping and creaking sound throughout the evening, perhaps old pipes. Mind you, I had no trouble sleeping but lighter sleepers be warned, there were some house sounds. The walls are a bit thin too so I could hear our neighbors above and to the side.
The Château’s location is great if you are commuting by NJ Transit. Nearby is a park with a lovely lake and birds, a truly tranquil setting that is a stone’s throw away. A little further along the road is Spring Lake’s shopping district where you’ll find quaint shops but only a few dining options. (Which were closing at 9pm on a Friday night)
Coming from a more urban gritty environment, it’s reassuring to know that places like the Château trust you with taking board games back to your room and to help yourself to complimentary cookies and beverages in the evening.
Checkout was smooth as well but expect the tax you’ll pay to add to the overall damage. Continental breakfast is $ 5.99 per person. Bikes are available for renting as well.
I’d definitely stay at the Château again and take my chances with ghosts of actors portraying Sherlock Holmes. Even Moriarty would likely find this area relaxing.
