A&T Moving & Hauling

The good: Great competitive price. Quick. too quick. Reliable for appointments. They let us borrow wardrobe boxes. I liked the service up until I discovered the hidden broken ping pong table and the scratches on floor and walls.
The bad: Too many moving men in the house, which caused it to be very chaotic. Even though the boxes were labeled, we had to tell them which room or show them which room to put the boxes. They shouldn’t have to double-​check with us every box… it prevented me from being able to watch what the movers were doing inside the house.
The ugly: beware of hidden broken items, bait and switch pricing, scratches.
The wood floors were refinished before we moved in, but after we moved in we saw several scratches in the wood floors and on the freshly painted walls. We know we didn’t do it, because we had the painting and floors done when the house was empty. Some of the crew were very careless (maybe it was their first day on the job), and others on the crew were professional movers. They could have slowed down and been more careful.
Art, the head of A & T, came to house a couple of weeks beforehand to give me a price quote. We walked through and I pointed out items to be moved and I provided him with a list of those items. When it came time to move, he said that I added items to the list so he wanted to charge me more. While I did add items, I also removed comparable items from the list that were not being moved, but that didn’t count to him. To his credit, he didn’t force me to give him more money, but I decided to give him half of the extra amount he wanted to charge me… I was at the mercy of the moving company at that point.
My ping pong table was broken during the move and no one owned up to it. When I was doing the final walk-​through after everything was moved out, I saw wood dust on the floor where the ping pong table was. I showed Art the head of A & T who said it was probably from lifting the table. When we got to the new house, I asked the movers to reassemble the ping pong table and then I saw that two corners were broken. When I went back to the old house to clean up, when I looked in the closet, I saw parts of the ping pong table were thrown on the floor… whoever broke ping pong table didn’t want to own up to it and instead tried to hide the damage. That’s not good because you need to trust that if they break something they will tell you because you may not find out something is broken until weeks later when you get to unpack it. Trust is very important in the moving business, but I felt that I couldn’t trust them anymore. I gave the movers a few items. a hand truck, mattress, new grill tool set, a roll of shrink wrap and we gave them each $ 30 tip (9 guys!), but try to get Art to fix my ping pong table and you saw he was not very good with making things right. He told me that he couldn’t watch everything that was going on. That shouldn’t be my problem, but it ended up being my problem. He offered me $ 50, then sent me another text asking me my address (not sure why he didnt have the address he just moved me to?), but still no check. The right thing to do would have been to come here and fix it. The people that moved into my old house told me that their moving company broke the garage door glass panel and they sent a company over the following Monday to repair it… now, that’s the right thing to do.

I just hired them to transport my furniture from my apartment to my new place which is 2.5 hours away and they did a great job! They were very professional and competent. Very nice too. I had a lot of stuff to move but they took it all, which was very helpful and convenient to me. Originally, I had only planned to move a few things but they saw stuff I had laying around my apartment and offered to put it in a bag and transport it for me. I really appreciated that, I didn’t want to have too much stuff, but they assured me it was no problem and they would gladly do it. The price was very reasonable and there were no hidden fees, I was charged a flat rate with everything included in that price. My move went smoothly and flawlessly thanks to them. Great job guys! :)

Update: 2÷28÷15 — After a lot of back and forth, I received a check to reimburse me for the cost of the missing air mattress. I am happy that the company decided to value customer service and provide me with the money needed to buy a replacement.

I contacted this moving company and their service was amazing. The move was quick and they provided me with free boxes to aid the moving process. I was pleased with the service, another family member used them too and was pleased too.

Just like everyone else, we had broken furniture and missing furniture after using this company. We had the glass missing from our coffee table when we moved in. I have photos of the table before the move and the glass was present, when we got to the new house the glass was missing and the company employees told me that «the glass was never in the table and they found the table missing glass». My family members saw the movers packing said glass.
After arguing that there was once glass in our coffee table, they finally offered to replace it. Which they did.
We also had a small black office/​computer chair that they packed and we never saw it again. Each family member went back to our old house to check for the chair, it wasn’t there. It is not in our new house either, we completely unpacked the next day expecting to find the chair under boxes or other items they carelessly threw in our garage which I will get to later. It is gone; if it was broken, they should have told us (just like the glass they broke) that there was an accident and they will replace it which would have been fine, mistakes happen and it is the job of the one who made the mistake to clean it up, pay for it and replace it. I don’t want to say the chair was stolen and make that accusation but the chair was either stolen or broken. (Most likely broken just like what happened with the glass in the table). When Arthur came to replace the glass, we kindly and politely asked him if he found a black office chair in his truck and couldn’t find who it belonged… before the statement was even finished he interrupted saying he doesn’t know what I am talking about and he doesn’t even know if the glass ever existed… who lives with a fancy coffee table with a big hole in the center? Who has an office desk without a chair? Not us. After I could not get a word in I mentioned that a very important movie prop cannon was broken in half and tossed upside down and no employee even mentioned that they broke this… they waited for the props owner found it. When this was brought up to the owner he said «the prop was made of paper», the prop was made of WOOD, piping and plastic and took 4 weeks to make. We have photos of what it looked like before and after. After bringing this up to the owner he literally threw up his hands and said I don’t know what you’re talking about and let himself out… he literally walked out and left. This is the craziest and most disrespectful thing I have ever witnessed.
I can understand if you are a small business owner and your employee broke the glass in our table, broke the black office chair, broke the movie prop canon and it was not you, but if this happens you cannot accuse your customer of lying about items that never existed or existed and were broken to begin with… especially if everyone on this site made a similar review about their furniture being broken. We did appreciate the glass being replaced but I would like my office chair back and my movie prop fixed.

Let me update my review since the owner of this establish has falsely accused me of a federal crime… wtf?!?
This is the first time in my life where I have dealt with someone in a public forum making up complete lies about me… It’s actually kind of hilarious. Arthur wants you to believe that my master plan was to take my broken furniture (which I decided to continue to hold onto) and orchestrate a move from flatiron to midtown. At the end of the move, I would convince the mover to falsely submit this claim to his insurance policy… According to Arthur T., even though he adamantly refused to do this for me, I was extremely pleased with his service when he left. It wasn’t until several days later when I threatened him with a 1 star Unilocal review if he did not submit a false insurance claim on my behalf…
I honestly can’t believe how this person sleeps at night… It’s disgusting. I think he really just helped give you a glimpse of what it will be like if you decide to deal with him…

Worst moving company ever!!!
The owner Arthur, seems like a professional guy at firts, but when you actually get the services… really unprofessional! Do not go for the price (they have a flat rate and are the less expensive company) because you will end up paying more for the things they break and leave behind claiming that «was not part of the deal». If you value your assets I really do not recommend using these services. Also, he mistreats his employees!!! which is a very hard thing to see.

These guys are great had them move some furniture from Rockland to my apt in Brooklyn. They were quick and efficient even having to go up three flights of stairs to my apt. I would highly recomend these guys. Another family member used them as well and was also pleased.

Arthur and A & T Moving and Hauling are the most fabulous movers. We used them for 3 different jobs in the past two weeks. First they took my entire bedroom set to the furniture restorer. The following week they moved us out of our home we owned for 18 years into another home. The third move was to take some furniture and also pick up kitchen cabinets and bring it up to our other home in Massachusetts. Each move was wonderful. Arthur’s crew was terrific, courteous, efficient and everything arrived in perfect condition. I would highly recommend them for any job, large or small. His prices are extremely fair and much lower than expected. What a pleasure, I will use them again and recommended them to someone in the hair salon this morning!

i understand the other posters frustration. I talked to arthur too, and that guy is very unprofessional… I actually was considering using his services, and he was very kind in the beginning, until i asked him a question about the insurance. He actually started screaming at me over the phone when i calmly asked him why i have to pay extra to have insurance coverage out of my pocket, when he was telling me they had insurance. I told him 3 times to stop screaming and lets talk about it but he kept screaming while claiming that he was not screaming. I can’t believe how unprofessional he is. Funny thing is he told me the opposite of the other poster. that i am paying extra for the liabilty coverage (damage to the building) not the damage to my own furniture. I called my building manager and asked about that policy, and he told me its not standard practice for me to pay out of pocket. The whole time he was telling me that its standard. I guess he gets so many complaints that he becomes super defensive when a customer asks a simple question. I would never work with someone like this
