D & S Termite & Pest Control

I live in east county and have Huge red and black ant hills! I had D&S out about a month ago to treat those areas and have not seen a single ant since! They got me in quickly and took care of business. …and at a great rate! Thanks!

These guys are GREAT. Our regular tech Justin was out but the guy they sent was really good! Helped my tenant and me. Been using them for a couple of years. Best decision I ever made for work was switching my monthly service to them!!!

I used D&S about 8 years ago and assumed they did a decent job. Now I have good reason to doubt them.
Earlier this year I was riding my bike down Honey Springs Road near Jamul when a D&S vehicle pulled up extremely/​illegally close to me so that the passenger could scream «F***ing A**hole!!» at me as they passed. I was well over to the right of the road and not obstructing the driver at all. He had plenty of room to pass and there was no on-​coming traffic.
To have someone pull up and scream at you while riding a bike at about 30 MPH is very dangerous and could cause an accident. If the driver and passenger of the D&S vehicle have so low regard for human life I doubt they have much regard for your personal property. I won’t trust them again and regret doing so in the past.
This occurred in February of this year and the vehicle appeared to be some type of hybrid suv.

yep this is simple no need for the pros and cons here. I had an appontment with another pest control service company and they were a no show… called D& S services and they were at my home the NEXT day at 730 as I wanted an early appoinment then did the repairs needen the NEXT DAY!!! the reps were great and the customer service was fantastic. The 2 guys that came out were great. thank you and I will be using thsi company in the spring for my yard… Good Job!

When I sold my house D&S was chosen by my realtor to do the inspection and repairs. I assumed they would be fine since a well known realtor company would use them. I was wrong.
The termite damage to the house was minimal (crawl space entrance frame was touching dirt and had subterranean termite damage) also some dry rot boards on the deck.
$ 500 to treat the soil for termites. I don’t know if this is a good deal or not, I’ve never had termites treated before but it seams high.
$ 720 to replace the damaged wood at the crawl space door and the dry rot on the deck. I figured for that price they would do a good job because I could hire my own handyman for the same job and it would cost no more than $ 200
The deck repairs were bare minimum and obvious. Instead of replacing the 8′ tread boards that had dry rot with new 8′ boards they cut the rotted section out and patched in new pieces (3′-4′ cuts). So now the deck looks worse and their new boards don’t lay perfectly flat so you can stub your toe on them, or cut yourself, or trip. Also they were supposed to replace two 4X4 headers that hang out past the awning (an aesthetic feature) but chopped them off and left them flush instead since the hang out portion of the board had the damage. Again it looks worse than it was and saved them hundreds of dollars.
Anyways, do to their quality of work and cutting corners I believe this $ 720 job should have cost $ 200. My realtor called them on my behalf and was able to get a $ 150 refund but it felt more like an insult.
Also they left cigarette butts on the ground.

I would definitely not have chosen this company if I could go back and do the fumigation process over again. The job itself was $ 2940 and $ 150 of that was supposed to be for taking down 2 large fences in order to fumigate our Balinese gate. When the team arrived (2 hours late), they decided to NOT take down the fence-​at the time of the tenting– but instead to simply take off one bolt (5 min job) and NOT fumigate the gate. They said it was just too much work. Um… But I thought you had already been to the house to make sure your team could take down the fences… hmmmm. I also wanted the gate fumigated and they said that would happen. Changing your mind last minute? Pretty sneaky.
When we chose this company, the field rep. Mike, (who was extremely nice, knowledgeable, experienced) informed us that they D & S use their own crews, he would send over a carpenter to ensure the fence would be taken down and put back up, and that our very expensive gate would in fact be fumigated. Well, that never happened. As a result, after I left 2 messages without anyone ever getting back to me, the company took $ 50 off the entire project. So they were only going to charge $ 50 to take down 2 fences and put them back up? Really? This is of course, the condensed version.
I phoned again and asked if they would take off the additional $ 100. The president of the company phoned me back and left the NASTIEST message imaginable and refused to reimburse anything other than the $ 50 (even though I have IN WRITING what their commitment was). Her really, snarky message said she had to pay to have the workers come out, regardless if they took down the fence or not. But that WASN’T THE AGREEMENT MR. PRESIDENT! After listening to the voice message (which I kept– and it literally shocks everyone who hears it), I thought I better not ever have a warranty issue because I can’t even imagine what she would do with a bigger problem.
We have another house that needs to be fumigated but after this experience, I decided to simply pay the full amount and and move forward with another company. I’m not going to fight with someone over a hundred dollars but I will certainly encourage others to work with a different company. This woman had her boxing gloves on before she even heard our story. Shameful, really.

As a neighbor to a property they tented, I was very disappointed in their time on my property.
Mike Saunders, the field rep, knocked on my door to ask for access to my back yard for their tenting in a few days. We went in the back yard to discuss how they would do the tenting. At first he said they would have to take down my fence. Then we agreed they would not take down the fence, but tape the cover to the fence. We were very clear — THEY WILL NOT TAKE DOWN THE FENCE. He promised. I believed him. He seemed like such a nice guy. He even said I was a nice homeowner, some people give him a hard time accessing the back yard.
They busted my fence out!!! Then screwed it back together like I wouldnt notice. Left nails all over. I called the office and the person who answered the phone just said, sorry, can we come out and fix it for you?
The workers who tented picked my avocado tree clean — they must have take 30 — 40 avocados. 1 or 2, ok, but the entire top and side we cleaned off.
I dont want them back in my yard.
She wanted to know if someone could call to apologize? And waist more of my time? I already have to fix and paint the fence.
I just do not understand how someone can tell you your property will not be damaged when he knew full well it would be.
Steer clear of this group.

We use Randy with D&S to inspect all of our listings. He is fantastic. Very knowledgeable and thorough. The entire office is very polite and responsive. Their prices are reasonable too. I have also used them to fumigate my own home!

Recently I found some termite drops at our yard. So I called three companies to come to inspect the problems. Three of them seem all very professional but the quote from D & S is very affordable. So I decided to use them for the local treatment. Jason is the guy to do the job and he is very careful and professional. It took more than an hour to treat about 10 local termite damages. I am really satisfied with Jason’s job. Will use them again if we have termite or pest problems!

I would give them NO stars if I could! EEK! Methinks Not is a huge understatement!!!
I was very happy for the first few months with Justin. He came monthly and all was fine. He even cleared cobwebs. Justin does a great job and is a hard worker. He treated for spiders, ants, fleas, and all sorts of other bitey things.
HOWEVER this is where it went south. I found our beautiful new house had termites in the fence, and I saw some winged ones in my office. So I called for a termite inspection to see the extent of the problem. Along came Randy … smooth talker. Unfortunately, he lies! He submitted a report on me that said I requested him not to inspect the whole house. HOLY $#!! are you kidding me??? Why on earth would anyone call for a «free» termite inspection to get an idea of the cost and not have them inspect the whole house??? (I knew I had termites … I have seen them … I was a great customer, willing to pay them to eradicate my termites … all of them, not just in one room, but the whole house!!!)
This guy was greasy … slick talker and fast talker, but puffery. If I were not already in a one-​year contract with these pests of a pest-​control place, I would absolutely avoid D&S Termites like the plague!

We used D&S to tent fumigate our home in La Mesa. This was a. $ 2,000 project. Everyone we spoke with was pleasant and professional. They told us that all workers are employees of theirs, not just contractors. Their work appears to be sufficent, but I wouldn’t say it was great. They promised us the bags to protect pantry items and medicine would be delivered a week in advance, but didn’t deliver them until a day and a half before the fumigation. We just had a new roof put on and there was some pulling up of shingles and permanently-​bent transparent panels that they said were damaged by the weight of the rain on the tarp. (You should be asking how that much rain could pool on the tarp and bend the roofing material in just one night and why it was laid that way… I mean this might have been a tenth of an inch of rain on a sloped roof!). A part of the new rain gutter was bent and scraped. It was all disappointing and I’d think twice before going back to them, though I’m not sure the industry overall could do much better. Then they called us the morning they were removing the tent to tell us that our house was broken into and we needed to come home to make a police report. WARNING! IF YOU’RE GOING TO TENT YOUR HOUSE, SLEEP IN YOUR CAR TO PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY! Everybody to whom we reported the theft that day said,“Yeah, there’s been a lot more of that.” No one was surprised. The community police officer who took the report said it, the D&S Termite Co supervisor said it, the San Diego Gas and Electric person who came out to turn on the gas after the fumigation said it to us. I wish D&S had told me to consider some heightened security so that we could have saved ourselves the loss of personal items from this theft. In fairness, this appears to be a significant industry problem, not a D&S-specific problem, but I wish there had been better forewarning. We’re sick about the theft. PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY and don’t expect the fumigation company to do it for you. It takes one exacto knife to cut the tent and go in through the window they use to gas the house. It’ll break your heart.

Helped me solved my ant problems!!!

When I was purchasing my home this company was hired to do an inspection. In their report they said that the only thing wrong with my house was that some of the wood on my deck needed replacing and that the cost of that would be $ 6,000 dollars. After escrow closed I hired a different company to do the work on the deck and we found out that the damage of the deck was way worse than D&S had estimated. I tried calling them and they not only treated like an idiot and practically insulted me but they refused sending a different inspector to my house to look at the problems with the deck. After multiple calls that they didn’t reply and a every time I call they kept lying saying they would call me back to program the inspector visit I got tired and I had my realtor help me contact the director of the company. After this they finally called me back and programed the new inspection. I didn’t trust them at this point so I hired Top Notch Termite to check their work. The inspector from D&S termite was 2 hours late to the appointment and was telling me how the problem was that some of the damage wasn’t visible. After showing him the visible areas were termites were, he finally said oh yes the other inspector should have seen this. Because I wanted them to admit their mistakes I told the new inspector that I had hired a different termite company to ensure that his work was right this time. After that suddenly there were some problems and there were termites in the attic. This inspector actually told me that they did a shitty job the first time and I thought finally we were getting somewhere… Oh I was wrong!!! Every time I tried contacting them afterwards they ignored my phone calls and never replied to my emails. This company is the WORST, having my inspection with them was a 20 THOUSAND DOLLAR MISTAKE!!! So if you are buying a house PLEASE DO NOT USE THEM, I WOULD HATE SOMEONE ELSE EXPERIENCE WHAT I HAD TO GO THROUGH WITH THEM!!!

My next door neighbor had their house tented by D & S. The utility wires (Cable? Phone??) going into the house from the pole were pulled out of the tented house and left to droop all across my back yard. They never asked or warned us about this. If they are looking to get business by impressing people around their job site as they work, they have failed here.
I’m just glad we weren’t planning a backyard party or BBQ this weekend.

D&S was recommended by my realtor so I used home when one of our rental homes became vacant. You never know if a tenting is required, although they did show us the termites. They called several times in advance to make sure we had all of the paperwork and reminded me to turn the electricity off with SDG&E. They showed up on a time (a huge plus in my mind), did what they said they would do and removed it a few hours early. They were very thorough and I would highly recommend them.

The termite business seems a little shady to me since everyone who comes out can always find error with every other estimator or company who’d been there before them.
I recently got quotes from 3 different companies to treat for subterranean termites D&S was the cheapest and had the best protection plan for both drywood and subterranean termites for the money. Of the 3, D&S, Hume, Terminix: D&S was over 1K cheaper over a 5 year period.
Every time D&S came out or answered my questions on the phone they were very professional and direct. Today when the team from D&S came out to treat the termites they were only going to treat a small area… but when they got down there they found a lot more that needed to be treated and did it all for no additional cost. They literally treated the entire perimeter of my house for the cost of one small area.
D&S was getting my money because they had the best prices, but now I will be telling everyone I know to use them because they went above and beyond.

After quote shopping with a couple fumigation services, we eventually settled on D&S, which was a bad move. Randy came to the house and was extremely pleasant, walking me through the process, costs, etc. From there on in it was a thoroughly stressful and unpleasant experience.
It began with the team showing up almost 90 minutes late. They scheduled a team to arrive early in the morning– 7 a.m., and so we were all up early getting everyone out of the house and being ready for the team to be there at 7. They didn’t show until almost 8:30. During those 90 minutes, I made several calls to D&S to find out where they were, and the dispatcher could not have been less pleasant or less interested in helping me. She used the old, «I just talked to the driver and he said he’s almost there» line so many times it was laughable. Finally she gave some excuse that I don’t think even she believed, and I just gave up.
They showed up 90 minutes late, without any apology. Furthermore, I could see in the cab of the truck that they had stopped off somewhere for breakfast because all their bags of food were there and a couple guys were still eating. So while my family was sitting outside of the house for 90 minutes, these people were having breakfast.
The lack of courtesy was staggering, and they showed no regard for my time or my possessions. Also, these gentlemen apparently are of the misguided belief that they can judge who speaks Spanish simply by looking at them. Unfortunately for them, I speak Spanish and had the pleasure of listening to them talk about me and my family in the most vile, crude, profane terms possible. When they realized I understood, they quickly ran back into the truck.
I’ve since used another service for a new house and went through none of the hassle I did with D&S. Save yourself some time and money and use someone else. These people are unpleasant and unprofessional. In this economy, there are a lot of people who would certainly be more appreciative of your business.

Beware!
Fumigation is serious business. You are entrusting the security of your home to someone for at least two days. They have the keys, they open it up, they poke around, and they are responsible for keeping your dwelling secure for the duration of the fumigation process. D&S fails their customers by grossly neglecting their responsibility to keep your dwelling secure.
The fumigation process, where they put a tent over the building, took two days. One day with the tent on and one day to allow the gas to escape. Before this process D&S held a meeting that described the process, our responsibilities and what they would do while we were gone. They assured us that while the building was vacant there would be «secondary» locks on our apartments and garages as to prevent entry by us or someone else. Secondary meaning after, or better yet in addition to the first. I was expecting to see my own lock secured and an additional lock on the unit.
Pure morbid curiosity had me returning to the building to just check it out during the ventilation phase. I checked my garage and found that my own and the rest of the tenants primary locks had been removed. The «secondary lock» was a 12″ piece of 2X4 nailed vertically up the garage door frame with a single nail. I could have easily removed this with my bare hands. I was quite honestly appalled at what I had discovered as the items contained in my garage are of significant value to me and my roommates.
I called the company and complained as I felt very mislead and that they did not live up to their responsibilities.
Home owners read and heed, renters beware.
1 star. Nailed boards for locks are just unacceptable.
Note that my review comes from the standpoint of a tenant who has little long term interest in the repair of the property. Then again, if I owned the complex and people were nailing boards into my place I’d be pissed too!
