Disabled American Veteran’s Thrift Store

Well organized thrift store, with lots of vintage knick knacks and old great-​grandma linens, and stuff that looks like it came out of dead old folks attics. They have a lot of holiday seasonal décor items as well, especially Christmas decorations. Friendly staff. I like that they have a whole aisle of maternity clothes. Good selection of women’s clothes, but it is too overpriced. And the baby and kids clothes are way too overpriced! They rarely have sales. So I would give it 4 stars but since the clothes are too overpriced, they get 3 stars.

This place is alright, in my opinion. It’s located off Jamacha Road and there’s plenty of parking.
Inside, there’s a huge selection of clothing. Everything from swim wear to old military uniforms. They’ve got tiny, semi-​organized sections dedicated to furniture, books, videos and media, appliances and ceramics.
I feel like for what they carry, it’s a bit overpriced for the quality. This place seems to be over picked and what’s left on the shelves is trash. I guess pricing is semi-​justified if funding goes towards disabled American veterans otherwise, I do indeed feel their items are overpriced.
I don’t feel it’s the worst thrift store however it wouldn’t be my first recommendation, either.

This is definitely one of my favorite thrift stores in San Diego, and I go thrifting A LOT. The reason I love this place is that I literally cannot walk into this store without finding at least half a cart full of great clothes. I’ve been here a ton of times and always leave with plenty of clothes and often a pair of shoes too.
However, I must admit that my finds aren’t always great steals. they can definitely get pricey with certain things. Particularly their dresses and other items from stores like Forever 21, Charlotte Russe, and H&M… while yes these are trendy brands, they are definitely not worth $ 10-​$ 15 secondhand. The store does have the occasional sale, but it’s a mere 10% off a particular colored tag — which doesn’t end up adding to much, but I guess it’s something.
The store is very large and carries mostly clothes, but there is a separate portion of the store on the right, filled with a variety of furniture and glassware/​tableware. I have never purchased furniture here before, but my sister bought the cutest gold and blue plate and teacup set for her Tiffany’s-themed bridal shower at a great price.
All in all, this is a very clean, very large, clothes-​filled thrift store, full-​staffed with friendly and helpful people, that I definitely recommend to others, and will continue to return to for more great finds.

I adore this store. I do agree they are pricey on certain things. I have found some incredible bargains here though. When they have half off sales you can’t beat it. There are some things that are steals and some are way overpriced. Not sure how they come up with their pricing.
It is well organized and the workers are friendly.

This is an okay thrift store, doesn’t look like a place for young adults/​teens to go to though. More like really older people.

Pretty good place for clothes, it was very cheap before, now they raise the prices but the clothes get better. They even have some famous brands here, just look into it. I bought a Christian Dior here for 1 buck, pretty nice deal. But sometimes the prices are just not reasonable, a dress or a top from Forever 21 or H&M doesn’t cause 15 bucks at such place. They should keep an eye on this issue, those brands don’t cause that much but they still make them more than 15 bucks or even 20.

I have only donated but every time I do donate things, they’re so quick to help me carry my bags! I love it. Friendly faces and friendly service. This is the only place I donate to because I know it will be put to good use!

Bought a 1996 Plymouth Voyager from DAV for a very good price. Nice and professional people in their office operation that sells the vehicles. All paper work for the transaction was given to me to take to the dmv and it all went very smooth. Best part is they’re helping Veterans right here in San Diego! The Thrift store itself is big with a good selection of items. Staff was nice and helpful.

Large store and selection makes it fruitful to make the rounds. Staff is always very friendly when dropping donations off, too.

For the past several years we have worked hand in hand with the staff of this DAV to help us with our move out at the residence halls at San Diego State University. I must admit that this has been one of the best things we have ever done. This partnership is great. Over time we have developed a system that works all the way around. We resurrected the little white donation/​collection bins and have them placed where the students can get to them. They are emptied daily until all of our students are gone for the summer.
The end result of this endeavor is completely «win-​win».
1. The students have somewhere to donate their unwanted items without leaving home.
2. There is never an unsightly mess around the collection bins, or items hanging out of them.
3. Items that can be re-​used do not fill up the landfill.
4. The stores that receive the items have a better chance of resale, because of the trendy items originally purchased by the college aged students.
5. DAV will take mostly all items the students feel they no longer have a need for.
6.Once our event is over, everything is packed up and taken care of until the next move out.
Many, many thanks to George and Robert, they have made this a great event every year since 2005.
Over the years, DAV has collected over 50,000 pounds of usable goods from SDSU Residence Halls, and the goal is to continue this partnership.

Came here looking for an old school make up mirror and actually found it however when I plugged it in, it did not work. This place has high prices for the most part but has cool clothes here.

Always the best to deal with.
DAV will even pick up your old T V when others will not.

I tend to thrift shop a lot, especially when I’m looking for ideas/​things for my art, photography or to add to costume pieces for parties or events. I always seem to find what I need at a reasonable price. I have been to some thrift stores where the «thrift store» prices are just as pricey as going to some name brand store in the mall. I love finding random things that spark my interest. The staff is always friendly with me when I am there, so that really makes a difference to me. I like how huge the parking lot is, so that parking is not really an issue.

I have not been to the store, but if you want to donate something, they’re great.
Every few months I pile up a bunch of things I want to donate and give DAV a call. They’re fantastic and will take things that other places (Amvets, Goodwill, etc) won’t. They’ll even accept some items that need to be repaired and do the repairs themselves. They won’t take metal desks, but they even accepted a really old sailboard (windsurfer) that Amvets could not handle because their truck was too small.
As a bit of a backstory, I won’t donate to the Salvation Army because despite all of their donations, if you are helping with a cause such as sandbagging a river that will soon flood the area, they may show up with donuts and coffee, but they don’t give them to you; they sell them. Therefore I donated to Amvets before knowing about DAV. On my last occasion, I gave them quite a bit of furniture, clothing, etc. and they didn’t bother to give me a tax receipt. When I called to ask for one I was treated rudely and was told that I had to drive to their office/​store to get one. Never again.
Thanks, DAV. You are a worthy cause that will continue to get my things whenever I decide to clean up.

This is my second favorite thrift store in San Diego. The enviroment is a little more lax, which i like, however the prices are often times pretty crazy.
My biggest complain is that they NEVER have sales. Pretty much all other thrift stores, to get rid of junk that has sat around for weeks rotate their sales so that a certain color tag goes on sale 2 weeks after it has been put on the rack. I see some items in this thrift store that have been here for over a year.

Nothing excites me more than finding a huge ass thrift store! I was on the hunt for some specific items, but was a bit disappointed as this particular thrift store has mainly clothing. There were a few sofas and other furniture, in addition to knick knacks, but mainly there were a ton of clothes. I’ll be back to check out all that, but for now Im on the hunt for other items.

Big thrift store with mostly clothes. I come here for the craft supplies. There is always a full selection of craft stuff. A whole vintage section for those who enjoy that sort of thing. Mostly ugly polyester loud print shirts and suits from the 60’s 70’s. Definately a good place to find a halloween costume.
They dont offer discounts and some of their stuff can be expensive.

need a jock strap but aren’t willing to shell out the $ 10 for one? well, at this thrift store, they have almost half a rack, I repeat, half a rack, of previously worn jockstraps clipped on hangers. enchante
and they have medical equipment for sale — so if that ugly hipster-​in-​wheelchair trend rears its ugly head again, you’ll know where to go.
this used to be a thrifty’s according to local lore — hence the «T» gracing the building. Prices are steep — but you can find deals in their erratically priced goods — they have a rack of designated «vintage» clothes with hilarious polyester pantsuits — last time I went here I picked up about eighty scarves, as well as more pyrex, vintage 60’s highball glasses, a winter coat with like-​new mink collar, and some shirts for the husband. they also can have good men’s vintage shoes in smaller sizes, for some reason.

Probably more like 3.5 stars.
I like this thrift store because it is conviently located right off 125, it is big, and there is actual *old junk* to be found here.
They have a shoddy selection of records, but a decent book section. There are a lot of vintage shirts and jackets to be had here… if you are a medium-​sized dude.
