Had a great experience buying a camera here this fall. I needed a new camera for a trip, and wanted to get my first SLR after years of taking pics with point and shoots, and more recently my iPhone. With a kid on the way, I needed a real camera. And I knew from experience that i wasn’t going to get a knowledgeable person at one of the big box stores, so I looked for a dedicated camera shop.
A very good choice. Basically, I had a great customer experience. I was there in the middle of the day, so the place wasn’t busy, but the guy at the counter took his time to talk me through the choices, listen to what I needed, and even take me through all the features of the camera I bought. Most importantly, he even set it up for me: taking everything out of the box, showing me how to insert the battery and memory card, and taking some test shots to demonstrate the different settings. He made sure my camera was set up, that I knew how to work it, and that I was ready to start taking pictures of my little tyke.
And it wasn’t just me. I was there for about two hours, and we were probably interrupted about a dozen times with other customers. People came in with camera questions, broken cameras, etc., and every time he gave really good information and took his time with them while I played with my camera. At times, I noted, he even recommended people do things like NOT fix the camera, because it wasn’t worth it, even though he could have made some money charging them for the repair.
Totally great experience. I wish I remembered the name of the salesperson so I could mention him here, because he was truly outstanding. I love my new camera, I’ve taken great pictures with it, and I felt like I was totally taken care of when I went there.
And, of course, I checked the price of the camera I bought against what was advertised, and I paid basically what I would have paid online or at Best Buy or wherever. No up charge for the great service or the speciality store. Electronics are like that, I think.
If you need to buy a TV or something, go to the big box stores. But cameras are special. If you’re buying a good one, take the time to go to a professional camera shop like this one. Can’t recommend it more highly. I’d give it six stars if I could.
