Spring Valley Veterinary Clinic

I wasn’t sure what to do when my vet recommended soft palette surgery for my French Bulldog Otis. After researching the benefits and the cost, I decided I needed a second opinion before putting him under the knife.
I have a friend that recommended Dr. Simpson because of his special care with the bully breed. My initial consultation was with another Vet Dr Judy and to my surprise he recommended Dr. Simpson. He said… «Dr. Simpson is the best! He does this type of surgery often and is a great surgeon». I made an appointment immediately!
Dr. Simpson loves his job and was very thorough during our consultation. Which put me at ease. I was confident after the consultation and happy with the estimate. The staff was very friendly and attentive and most importantly Otis loved the Dr and everyone in the office.
The surgery went great and he doesn’t sound like a lil piggy anymore. He can breath easier and I know we have an improved quality of life! I look forward to longer walks and less stress on his lil heart and I’m forever grateful to Dr Simpson and his staff that made the entire experience stress free considering the circumstances.
I’m sure I found my new Vet for Otis and I could not be happier! Thank you Dr. Simpson and staff! Otis and I are now loyal customers!

The vet himself does great work, but the employees are terrible and have the worst customer service I have ever experienced at a company. They really should work on that. It took them 5 days to call me back and you can never get through on the line.

This vet is great! I have three kitties and they have all been treated with care and respect here. I can’t say enough good things about the staff.

I cannot say enough good things about this wonderful care facility. I’ve been taking my furry babies here for a few years, and never have I ever had better care and experiences for my guys. The staff is exceptional. They’re generous and caring and it reflects in their care practices. They’re very, very reasonably priced and they’re willing to work with you if you can’t pay right away. Twice they have literally saved the lives of two of my pets; my elderly Chihuahua had an abscess on her head from unknown causes, and it made her very sick, and my male cat had a urinary blockage they cleared up in short order. They’re efficient, friendly, concerned, and very good at what they do. They listen to you and genuinely want to help. I have never had an issue getting my pets in for treatment. I can’t say that they’re strictly professional, but that’s not a negative, because their attitude is so friendly, I feel very comfortable even just casually bantering when I have to go in for check ups of to pick up flea medication. These people are awesome.

Dealing with «Staff» is reminiscent of Tom Hanks’ secretary in the movie «Splash»

I wish I could rate quality of service separate from the rest of my review because there is a difference.
Dr. Simpson is AMAZING! You can tell he has been in the business for quite a long time; he knows his stuff. When I first moved to San Diego everyone recommended him. He takes the time to get to know your pet and makes sure they are comfortable with him. He doesn’t make you feel inferior when you ask questions. Dr. Simpson is the only reason I go back, and I give him five stars all the way.
Now for the rest of my review. Customer service gets the lower rating. There have been multiple times where I have had to take my dog elsewhere simply because I couldn’t get ahold of anyone. The phone would constantly ring and ring or beep and beep no matter how many times I called or how long I waited between each call. I have also left voicemails and never received calls back. It’s always a battle to get an appointment made. Other issues I have with their service is the lack of communication and disorganization in the front.

LOVE Dr. Simpson. He is a great vet and took special care of my Frenchie. It’s hard to find a vet who is knowledgeable about all things Frenchie.
He even took my Frenchie home with him overnight to monitor him after his pallet and nose operations. Dr. Simpson goes above and beyond for his fur patients.
NEGATIVES:
Staff seems overworked and unhappy and lack good customer service skills. I had a set appointment and arrived on time and signed in. I waited for over 20 minutes in a small, hot crowded lobby and no one that worked there even acknowledged me. I finally went to the front desk to ask what the issue was and the front desk workers looked at me like they had no idea why I was upset.
Every time I have been in (3 times in the last 2 weeks), I’ve overheard the staff complaining about each other in earshot of customers and other staff. Very unprofessional. Overall, the staff there does not seem happy.
The lobby and back waiting area were not as clean as I would prefer/​expect. Caked up dust on legs of table and floor. Animal hair on waiting chairs. Admittedly, I am a clean freak, though I’d expect the same from a clinic of any kind.
Signage is not clearly visible. If you don’t know exactly where the building is, you’ll miss it. I drove by 3 times.
Limited parking in front (3 small spots + 1 handicap).
Dislike the sign on the door that states: Leave your dog in the car if it’s coughing.
Um, NO! I understand they don’t want any potentially contagious dog mixing with other dogs, but you NEVER leave a dog, especially a sick one, in a car in the sun in California or anywhere else. Other vet offices I’ve gone to have a separate waiting area for coughing dogs.
Expect to spend twice as much time as expected for your appointment due to LONG wait times (after you check in, after you get in the room, when you’re checking out).
I mention all of this to give you a heads up. I LOVE Dr Simpson and highly recommend him especially for all things Frenchie. Don’t expect a fancy office or lots of perks. Good, kind vet.

Brought my terrier mix here earlier this year after being referred by my sister and brother in law who bring their great dane here, too. My poor dog had injured her leg chasing after a toy (she’s really old) and could not put any pressure on her leg whatsoever. I was able to get an appointment in a short notice. Dr. Elyea is the one who examined my dog and turned out she had a sprained knee. He let me know that he did no think surgery was needed but to call anytime if she doesn’t improve in the next few weeks. He was so helpful and informative and didn’t make me feel he was imposing services and procedures on my dog that were not necessary (like other vets I have been to). He prescribed her some pain meds and she was back to normal within a few weeks. I unfortunately have to bring her back in tomorrow to treat an ear infection, but I am confident she’ll be well taken care of by the office again :)

This place is great and Dr. Simpson knows what he is doing. He took 1 look at my bully and without me telling him what was really going on, he knew. It was unreal. The wait is a tad long, but worth it. Everyone who comes in there (and works there) is really friendly so when your waiting, your bully’s make lots of friends. I love this vet compared the vet I was going to previously. the reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is because the parking is awful and to make an appt, its usually about a week out minimum unless you have a really flexible schedule. There are only 4 parking spots in front of the building and its on a busy street so no street parking, but i tend to sneak a spot at the shopping center next door even when it says I can’t-oops.

They take such good care of us here! Our dog loves it here, loves the staff — in fact… even though we live in Orange County, it is wholly worthwhile to make the 1.5 hour trek to San Diego. Dr. Simpson and his team are one in a million, and we are so grateful to have found them :)

Best Vet I have been to. My Bully has always receives the best treatment from both Dr Simpson and Dr Eleyha. Great staff. Prices are fair and they never try to up sell like some other vets do.

The staff is super friendly and their passion for animals shows! The Dr was friendly, on point and great. You can tell they are straight forward with no BS up selling that previous vets have tried. I highly recommend!

So far all I can say is holy unorganized! I heard the receptionists say that files will never be where they are supposed to. Heard another assistant tell a client over the phone they misplaced their dogs test results and would call them when they found them. So far even with making appointments it’s never been on time. Longest wait time was an hour past my appt time and today it’s been 45 minutes past my appt time. PARKING SUCKS! They don’t close the doors for privacy and not going to lie some of the front staff probably shouldn’t be working with animals since I heard year another one say the only way a dog can get kennel cough is by being boarded in a boarding facility, and another one had no clue what FelV was. Totally not worth bringing my own dogs to, I only come to drop off dogs I work with.

I brought my Great Dane Tank to Dr. Simpson for neutering and stomach tacking all the way from Manhattan Beach because of his outstanding reputation in the Great Dane for community. The day before surgery we discovered that Tank had a small growth that also needed to be removed. Dr. Simpson addressed the unknown problem and the total charge for all of the surgeries was more than reasonable. His staff was extremely kind and tolerated my multiple phone calls checking on Tank’s condition with grace and respect. A truly impressive veterinarian and facility.

The staff and Dr Simpson are wonderful. He operated on my 8.5 year old Mastiff and ishe is having complications! As I sit here in back office watching and listening to the staff, they truly care and are an amazing team. Whatever the outcome they have done all they can! Amazing!!!

Outstanding place to bring your pet. Dr, Simpson is so caring and honest. Gives the right advise, doesn’t push to do things that aren’t needed and he is smart. The rest of the staff are so kind and patient. Clear everyone wants to be there. They take great care of my French Bulldog Peaches. She is my first bulldog so I had a learning curve.

Dr. Simpson is awesome! So awesome that they cant accept new patients without a referral from an existing client…
I have a Great Dane who I used to take to Animal Medical Center about 5 years ago… they quoted over $ 2000 for her spay and gastropexy, Thats when I discovered Dr. Simpson — I was referred by other happy Great Dane owners… Dr. Simpson only charged me $ 650! What a difference!
Dr. Simpson’s prices are low, the staff is great and he talks through your treatment options with you, oftentimes suggesting to go the less expensive treatment route before moving to the more expensive treatment options. Some vets price gouge by talking you into over aggressive treatment methods that are pricey, which if you don’t have thousands of dollars to spend, basically forces you to put a price tag on your pets life. Its a horrible position to be in and Dr. Simpson is a pet lover himself, which is why he does not put his clients in that position if he can avoid it… you’ll always get honest advice… he’ll let you know what he would do if he were in your position… and when its time to consider euthanasia, and when not to. Just a great guy!

Don’t take your dog to the grooomer there.

Dr. Simpson has been my wonderful pets doctor for 27 years now, Gary is caring and does what need to be done to take care of all aspects of my dogs well being. Dr. Simpson, always put his patients first over his financial gain with any pet when in need.
I trust Dr. Simpson with my loving animals life’s. There is no other Vet that cam compare to his caring spirit and proficiency in his medical ability.

Best Vet I’ve ever been too. Dr. Elyea was great with my dog, Kodiak, very informative and friendly. The rest of the staff was patient and friendly as well! I loved it… Definitely will be coming back!
