This Gander Mountain is located on the east side of I 45 right next to Top Golf. it is a large store but not to the level of Bass Pro Shops or Cabellas. Gander offers a lot of products for the outdoors including a large firearms collection. Actually all of the Gander Mountains in Houston offer the largest firearms collections of any store in the area. The major negative to shopping here is that their prices are above average for their products. That’s why the best way to shop here is catching their sales in the newspaper and online. Customer service is usually average. Parking is usually easy.

Absolutely loved the staff at this store. All firearm questions I had, they answered. When given a price range, they found exactly what I wanted without excessively overselling an item. Honest and kind, very knowledgeable! Would buy firearms from them any day.

While the store is packed full of goods… For our personal experience. Gander receive 2 stars. Why? went in for specific items the website validated to be In stock and not a trace. 2nd — service and assistance was minimal and weak at best. Week/work day lunch hour, empty store including staff. One helpful hint for Mgmnt — please respect customers time… don’t train a new person on the register for 10 min while your only customer stands in line waiting to pay and get back to work.

Just left this store, beyond idiotic experience… My bf and I came here to get new work boots for him. Finally picked some out with the display price of $ 109, go to the register, they ring up at $ 165(that’s a 50% + increase!). The girl helping us said that other sizes(9 and 13) ring up at $ 109(displayed price) but not size 11. I’m sorry but, unless this is a clearance item, you can’t price based on size and, had we known these boots were $ 165, we wouldn’t waste our time looking at them. These boots however, were not on clearance, this was a mistake on their end… which they should’ve honored(coming from a retail background myself, this is how it works, people. You honor your mistake and then fix it, so it doesn’t happen again). Instead, we wait for 20+ mins for them to «figure it» out and to tell us that they’re sorry bc «someone put up an incorrect display AND someone incorrectly priced the other sizes». That’s not«someone»… that’s your company(!) that fkd up, which is not the problem of your customers. We’ve bought stuff here before(guns, workout clothes, etc.) but never coming back. What a way to waste people’s time and lose repeat customers…

My wife, very thoughtfully, purchased me at shotgun for Christmas this year. ABSOLUTEDISASTERFROMSTARTTOFINISH. The salesman who assisted her provided incorrect guidance on the ATF forms and the proceed was delayed by two weeks. It took a phone call from me, and a ten minute hold, to find out the firearm was ready to be picked up. Needless to say, it didn’t make it under the tree. To add insult to injury, this guy sold her a case of 12 gauge ammo to go with the 20 gauge shotgun. I brought this all to the attention of one of the managers … but he just didn’t seem to care. I’ll take my business elsewhere.

This stores inventory is always way off and there are no associates available to help. Three times this year alone I have seen things on Gander Mountains website that I wanted and it stated that the Spring location had it in stock. So I make a 45 minute trip down there and low and behold, they don’t have it. So I try and track down an associate to help and that’s a brutal process. I see a few associates but they put on their blinders and speed by you, praying that you don’t stop to ask them any questions. The only place you can find an associate is at the gun counter and they’re with other customers and are of no use to the customer who needs help in the aisles throughout the store. The management team is the weakest I’ve seen in any retail type business. I confronted a manager and told him about my wasted trip and he offered no apologies but said that a truck would be coming the next day and that my product would most likely be on it. High prices, poor customer service from both associates and management and wrong inventory, wow! I’m done with this location and possibly Gander Mountain.

I went in to buy ammunition and was helped by Godfry. He was very informative and let me know about the wide range of classes and services for gun owners.

We had 2 reservations for the gander mountain academy. We drove all the way over and were then told that too bad our instructor called and was not coming and the manager was ready to go home so we were out of luck.

Great selection of everything !! I actually did half of my Christmas shopping here and everyone loved their gifts. The gun dept. has a great staff with tons of choices. The amount of ammo for sale is much better than Academy and they let you purchase however much you want. GM has a great selection of hiking boots and running shoes also. The fishing dept. has all the good brands. all in all its a great place shop for all your outdoor needs

I called today to see what the rules for trade in were and if I could trade for a handgun on sale. I asked to speak with someone dealing in handguns. I was on hold 10+ min. At one moment I could hear people talking in the background, so I said hello and they redirected me again. Another 5 min wainting on hold, so I hung up. After reading the other reviews about customer service I now understand. Does management even read these reviews. Seems like they would have hired better employees.

You could pay less for an hour at a different range but the care and assistance provided by the range master and staff is worth the $ 25/hour. We brought our 8 yr-old in to shoot and it was the first time for my boyfriend on the gun as well. Because only two people are allowed in the lane at a time(great safety rule), I wasn’t there to assist with loading the cartridges. The range master patiently and professionally helped them both learn how to load the cartridge, set the round, and work with the safety. I know these aren’t things most gun owners need but for first-timers or people who don’t shoot often, this kind of customer care is ideal!

Matthew was so nice! Very helpful– couldn’t have asked for better customer service :) we had bough an item online to be picked up at store. The order was cancelled because they didn’t have it. We found the same item in a different size at the store. Matthew prices matches it to the online receipt we had from the cancelled order. We spend the entire day in the woodlands and he was the only one polite to my husband and I.

While the store is nice, customer service is nonexistent. Forget trying to get anyone to help you in the store other than taking your money at the register. Calling them to get info? Forget it! The phone just rings and rings — not even an answer to put you on hold. It’s obvious management doesn’t care to put customers first. I’ll be going to Academy or Bass.

The biggest issue with this particular store is the wait time at the gun counter. Each time I go here, I have trouble finding an associate to help me look at a particular gun. When I do find someone available, there is usually a 10 – 15 minute wait time until he or she can come help me. That’s almost as irritating as trying to find an associate at Wal-mart to buy ammo! At least the associate at Gander Mtn is usually knowledgeable about firearms. They can’t be all to blame though. Sometimes the firearms section gets busy and everyone is tied up. The prices for firearms are usually a bit more expensive than what’s offered at Academy, however the selection is much wider-range than most other brick and mortar stores. I sometimes find the prices to be $ 50 higher than other places. If you can find out if Academy sells the same firearm, compare the prices and see what is cheaper. It may save you enough money to buy a box or two of ammo. Also, don’t forget that Gander Mountain can price match other brick and mortar stores. It’s easier if you have a weekly flyer with you to price-match. Personally, I try not to buy a firearm unless it’s a good deal or on sale so check their weekly sales ad online before going.

Above expectations… First time here and my customer experience was just the way it should be if you want people to return. The art of customer service, that is! Don and Mike were just old school, plain customer service. I will return because of them. Even if I am 45min away driving. Thank you, Don & Mike.

This was my first ever trip to Gander Mountain. They had a decent selection of most things but I’m pretty spoiled by Cabelas(Buda location) and REI. Although they had a little bit of everything I wish their camping selection was larger. I think the company would do well if they mimicked Cabelas in what they stock in their store. I bought Smartwool socks since I’m a sucker for wool socks and it can be hard to find them in store. Their shoe selection was not huge but it was diverse. For as big as the store is they could stock alot more.

Went in with the family to buy sandals. Employees seemed to go out of their way to ignore us. the fellow in the shoe department actually left the department and went to hang out at the service desk. He never did bother to see if we needed help. When it came time to try something on, I went in search of a green vested helper and finally found one folding shirts. She really seemed like she was too busy to help me but did come over to the shoes. too bad she couldn’t find the one we wanted. So she called over an even surlier helper. Boy was she grumpy. Overall the customer service was just poor. I like their stuff, but it isn’t anything I cant get elsewhere. Cheers

Went in to check out a couple CZ O/U shotguns. The sales staff was not exactly helpful… «We don’t carry those» is all that was said, and not a word more. Not sure if they are an online-only item or just out of stock… They didn’t say. No suggestions of alternatives or feedback on the CZ firearms. Just a dismissive comment and he walked off. I’d say you’re better off skipping the traffic, saving the gas and checking out reviews on YouTube. Even if the sales staff does have anything useful to say, they don’t seem eager to share it.

Hub and I have been shopping here for a while. I am shocked I have not reviewed Gander Mountain till now. The store has been re-done and I like the layout. I also like that they have gotten rid of all the creepy stuffed dead animals. I don’t mind hunting, but trophy hunting of non-food animals turns my stomach, Anyway, the new layout feels much nicer and much more open. Things are relocated, so you may have to search for what you’re looking for, if you are accustomed to the old layout. The handgun selection seems to be smaller, but the hunting rifles and shotguns seem to be about the same. As noted, there are now electronic Hogan’s alley options that are like a big video game. That’s cool. We have not tried it yet, but might in the not too distant future. The fishing supplies have moved but still seem more than ample. Shoes are now on the opposite corner, but offer a nice selection and good service. One thing I have noticed about Gander is that they have some nicer stuff than some of the discount places. However, on the items that are at both Gander and the discount places, Gander is much more expensive. I would urge you to do some homework before you buy and make sure that you’re getting as good a deal as possible on most items.
