Dave’s Soda & Pet City

Okay, so I still stand by the understaffed rude people at Dave’s. I often find they are out of the food I need anyway. I usually buy my food at the Dave’s in Hadley or at Browns in East Longmeadow. BUT, they are now offering grooming services, and these girls are awesome.
Dave’s has build a lovely grooming section with a window in their Springfield store. I am so happy to have found a good groomer in the Springfield area.
My dog is twelve-​years-​old and very cranky when it comes to grooming. That makes him a bit of a biter. I call him the Tasmanian devil when it comes to any grooming activities. Given the cited instances of hitting and the prosecution of some other groomer in the area, I was very afraid to trust him to a groomer. Shannon takes it all in stride and manages to give him a beautiful cut. Jessie had to pitch in and assist as, even though he is only five pounds, it is difficult to get him to keep still. This is one of the best cuts he’s ever had, and he is not traumatized by the experience.
People actually stopped me in the store as I was going to pay and asked me where I got him groomed. «Right here at Dave’s,» I was happy to say. Now I can just drive down the street from my home and pick him up an hour or so later. So convenient.
Thanks Shannon and Jessie. Zazu looks forward to many more cranky grooming sessions in the future.

If you’ve got a snake, come here and speak to Chelsea! She’s in charge of the reptiles and is crazy knowledgable, very reliable, and offers the best customer service. She’s helped my family throughout our journey of purchasing our first snake and I can honestly say I would have failed as an owner without her lol.
As for the rest of the store, it’s a typical pet store. It’s always clean and well stocked. I only go for reptile merchandise so can’t accurately judge the other departments. Reptile paraphernalia is well stocked and much cheaper than at Petco. The pinkie mice are much bigger and less expensive than at petco as well.

Great place covering all our pets’ needs (even special dietary options for our weak-​stomached dog).

Staff is always very friendly. I go there often enough that they know my dogs by name. My only complaint is that too often they will only have one register open so the wait can be a bit much.

Big fan of Dave’s for the pet products. Since the shop opened in Ludlow, we haven’t had reason to come back to the shop on Carew Street.
The store on Carew doesn’t seem to be maintained as well as some of the other locations. There’s a distinct pet store smell to it, and it doesn’t seem quite as clean as its sister stores. It’s a little smaller, so it seems like inventory isn’t quite as voluminous as the other locations.
Still, if you’re in the city and you need a place to go to, chose Dave’s. His Naturally Healthy product line has worked miracles for our cats, and I would highly recommend them!

Everything I need for my doggie and kitties, plus a very cool beverage selection. The frequest buyer program ensures I will get a free bag of dog food now and again, and the staff always, without exception, offers to carry stuff to my car!

My go to spot for food for the mutt and soda for my belly! Thanks for carrying brands like Maine Root, Polka Dog Bakery, Honest Kitchen and Merrick!

I don’t know Dave personally but I like the guy all the same (mostly from his appearances on Rock 102.) When I first heard of this franchise years (decades?) ago I thought how strange soda and pet food were together. I understand they both ‘warehouse’ reasonably well but it still seemed strange.
After visiting this location I guess I can look back at my initial reaction in hindsight favorably. There is very little soda here. One aisle (maybe half the length of a supermarket aisle) sparsely filled with product. Granted there were a few offbeat brands but really a poor representation of soda, and the prices aren’t overly competitive (no deals.)
Pet food is a different story, it’s clearly the thrust of the business (and why Dave is on Rock 102 occasionally as a guest in the morning.) There were a lot of varieties, many I’d never seen before. Of course they had the IAM’s product my dog prefers (craves).
They carry a lot of toys and other pet accessories as well as some pets themselves (birds and fish, etc.)
I also purchased some ‘bones’ (with the intent of keeping my dog busy for while.) I don’t think they carry rawhide because it isn’t good for your animal. So it took a while to find something that I thought would last. I picked up something that looked hearty and at the checkout i asked if it would take a while for a dog to get through it. The cashier said that it would. Unfortunately, the ‘treat’ didn’t take long for my dog to finish off.
Dave’s has other locations. It’s possible they have a respectable amount of soda and (I’d presume) a more knowledgeable staff.
