On Duty Handyman

Essam was very responsive in communication and showed up on time to every project I needed done on my rental property (rare for most contractors in the area). He helped me find ways to save money and did first class work with all the jobs we agreed to. His paint jobs were first class, bathroom work was top notch along with the other handyman jobs we needed done. I will be using On Duty Handyman for future projects!

Essam was great. He was willing to travel to DC, and did a couple of minor jobs for me. He gave me a time frame on when he would come the day prior and he came within that time frame (huge plus, so that I did not have to wait all day). He is a very pleasant person and also reasonably priced. I will use him again. I will totally recommend him to anybody who is looking for a handyman.

I’m not going to drone on & on about Essam & On Duty handyman. As a frequent Unilocal user I feel that long reviews get bothersome whether good bad or indifferent.
Just the facts:
Essam has done everything for me from electrical to plumbing expertly.
Essam hires good workers to assist him who are equally as diligent & competent as he is.
Essam is flexible. He simply wants to get the job done. He’ll work any day or time, you just have to give him the freedom to do so or set the schedule at the start of the job.
Essam knows the codes, he advises honestly and has reasonable prices.
I was very happy with the work done in my home. I will use ODH many times in the future.

Essam was very professional, and extremely easy to work with. He and his employee did a wonderful job fixing all that we asked. Highly recommended! Essam was great! I called On Duty Handyman to install my new dishwasher (Home Depot installers would not install because there was no way they could secure the dishwasher on 2 sides). Essam actually came out on a Sunday because of scheduling conflicts and completed the job to my satisfaction. I would recommend giving him a call if you need a handyman in the future.

We have multiple minor projects around the house. Essam was quick to do them and repaired them nicely. The only reason why I gave him 3 stars instead of 5 like other reviewers in Unilocal is because of the lack of communication.
Cons: (Please see pros on the bottom)
1. When you schedule an appointment with him, he does not fulfill it. He forgot to come approximately 3 times and called you at random time in the week whether or not he can come in the next few days because he is around the area even though we have informed him multiple times that the day he is free might not be free to us.
2. He is difficult to get a hold of either on the phone or by email. We understand if he could not respond to his phone, but we could not understand why he hardly replies back to his email. Essentially, because of his lack of response to phone or email, it becomes increasingly difficult to schedule an appointment with him.
3. Unlike other professional company that we worked with, he does not provide you with an order receipt of what he had done, so you have to remember how much the cost of the work is on the top of your head and sometimes the cost changes after he found out a deeper problem to the project than he anticipated. An order receipt is nice to have to keep track of how much your project will cost you, especially if you have multiple projects in your house.
4. In one of the projects where we requested him to replace the grout in our master bedroom, he did an exceptional job in the replacement of the grout but left the state of the bathroom in a disheveled mess. Because he does not take of his shoes or use a cover on for his shoes, there were shoe imprints left on the tub that was quite difficult to get rid of. Also, remnants of the grout were left everywhere, and we had to do a once over to clean the tiles and the bathroom in general.
Pros:
1. He does his job quick in less than few hours.
2. He will point out if there is a problem that you are not aware of in the house or a deeper issue than the actual project you have handed him.
I am sure the price of each project depends on the project itself, but we were given a rough estimate of $ 100 for each minor project and $ 200-​$ 300 for any electrical work because he does not do the electrical work himself. (Note: any electrical work has to be done on a weekday.)

Esaam and his crew did a fantastic job, and my home looks amazing! They painted (walls, ceilings, trim, and doors), repaired drywall, replaced doorknobs, recaulked showers and sinks, and more. They were prompt, efficient, and thorough. On Duty Handyman is the only handyman you need!

My husband already left a review, but I wanted to leave one as well. We have been doing most of the repairs and upgrades our selves with help from our family in the construction business. Now as life gets a little more hectic and our work schedules don’t allow days off to replace a bathroom floor, etc. We looked to find someone we could rely on to be in our home and do the upgrades we desired, with the level of care we would have.
Essam was just the person, from the day he came for the estimate he was not bogged down by our exhaustive list and gave us a fast, fair and accurate estimate.
We had originally hired a landscaping/​outdoor company to fix our wood rot on our bay window, with half the deposit down, the company still didn’t make the repair within 5 months. We decided to ask Essam if he could do it as well, he was more than happy to and had it done and painted in 2 days.
We had lots of odds and ends and different types of jobs for him while he was here and did all of them just as well as the last, we even added on a door installation and he was still done on time. He is fairly priced, honest and reliable.
I am so happy we found him, it has made getting our to do list done a breeze. Don’t think twice about giving him a call.

I am a bit late with this review, but I called him about 6 weeks ago, after reading all the positive Unilocal reviews, and I’m so glad I did! He came quickly to give me an estimate, he is very reasonably priced, quick to fit you in, and does outstanding work! We were prepping our house for the market and he completed several projects for us. Our house is now under contract and once our home inspection is completed next week, I will definitely be calling Essam to fix whatever the inspector says we need to have fixed. Seriously… You won’t go wrong if you use his services! So, what are you waiting for?!! Stop reading this review and call him today!

Can I give six stars?
Essam is fantastic. Was able to schedule an estimate almost immediately, and begin work shortly thereafter. Him and his team were clean, perfectionist, polite, and finished the job on schedule.
We will definitely be using him again for other work.

After seeing the positive reviews here, I called On Duty Handyman today to replace a garbage disposal and a broken light switch. I was expecting to schedule and appointment for later in the week, but instead was able to get a same day appointment during a time frame that was most convenient for me. After sending photos of the two items I needed replaced, I promptly got a fair estimate, confirmed the appointment, and had the repair done.
While replacing the garbage disposal, the handyman noticed I had had a leak in the past, so he thoroughly checked the pipes to make sure there was no longer a leak and gave me advice for what to watch for. When the work I requested was done, I mentioned what I thought was another minor problem that I wasn’t ready to have repaired. He took a look at the issue and gave me an estimate for that repair for when I’m ready to have it done, all without any pressure to schedule a time for that repair.
I’m very happy with the promptness, professionalism, and value of the work done by On Duty Handyman and will absolutely call him again for future work I need done around the house.

I was very pleased with my visit from On Duty Handyman. Given an admittedly vague request of replacing a closet door, Essam was prepared for anything with know-​how and tools. I thought it would be a simple replacement but it was a total reinstall. The door was replaced quickly and at a great price. It fits perfectly.
PS, I first asked my bldg’s maintenance man who does side jobs like this and he said he couldn’t do it because the new door wouldn’t fit.
