History

Established in 1983.

Our Springfield office dates back to the early 1960’s when Herb Cohen, CPA opened up his accounting practice as a sole practitioner and later formed Springfield’s largest accounting practice known as Cohen and Kirkpatrick, CPA’s. In 1983, Cohen started up his second CPA Firm, forming the professional service corporation now known as SWR.

Ken Schultz, CPA, CVA joined the Firm in 1990, allowing Cohen to retire, and with Dave Covey as his partner, practiced as Cohen, Covey and Schultz, P.C., offering attestation, tax, and management consulting services to the small-​to-​medium sized business clients in the greater Springfield Area. In 1992, Connie Rapp, CPA joined the Firm and was promoted to shareholder status in 1998. Bill Wood, CPA joined SWR in 2003, and became a shareholder in 2010, forming today’s present ownership of SWR.

In 2000, SWR purchased the West Plains CPA practice of Egan & Mangold, P.C.

Meet the Business Owner

Ken S.

Business Owner

Ken has been a Certified Public Accountant in excess of 35 years, and has been SWR’s Managing Partner since 1998. Ken’s experience includes 30 years in public accounting as well as 3 years in private industry, giving him a unique perspective of the challenges facing businesses today.

Ken received his B.A. in Accounting from the University of Northern Iowa in 1979. His career includes working for various large CPA Firms and private industry in Dubuque, IA (1979 – 1981), Oklahoma City, OK (1981 – 1984), and Kansas City, MO (1984 – 1990), before joining SWR in Springfield in 1990. Ken has been a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) since 1998, allowing SWR to provide business valuation services to our clients.

Ken and his wife Susan are very proud of their four children and three grandchildren. Ken enjoys golfing, water sports, and family-​related activities. He is an active Rotarian and member of Holy Trinity Parish in Springfield.
