Simpler Times Cafe and The Pie Plate

This is a cozy café that recently started in Springfield.
The food selection is very limited, but what they sell is good. They specialize in pies. The pies are excellent. The crust is just the right texture and is very tasty. I really like the small hand pies. The owner is starting to add foods other than pie. At this point they have quiche for lunch, which is also very good, as well as two kinds of soup a day. Panini are also available at lunch. The owner says she is planning to add more healthy food such as salads. They also serve coffee, which the owner roasts herself.
The café has a number of small tables and is quite comfortable. It has free wifi.

The café is somewhat tricky to find. I had to wander around a bit before locating it. It’s across the parking lot from the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, behind and to the left of the Nolan building. Look for the flag that says «café.»
Prices:
Prices are reasonable. It has a self-​checkout system.
