History
Established in 2004.
Through the years and storied history of Pickwick Place, gas stations to grocery stores have come and gone. Today, when we think of the businesses of Pickwick Place, Tea Bar & Bites and Zen 3 stand as pillars of this quaint retail community, built in a Spanish architectural style in 1931 by Judge Warren L. White as a tribute to his wife of Mexican descent. In January of 2004, Colleen and her happy crew opened up the café– a local gem that is now synonymous with the neighborhood itself. Tea Bar & Bites is a proud, long-standing member of Pickwick Place, serving a community of friends and neighbors for over ten years, in the tradition of the neighborhood’s original champion, Warren L. White.
Meet the Business Owner
Colleen S.
Business Owner
Having raised four kids owner, Colleen Smith knows a thing or two about nurturing the hungry, cooking for a crowd and the art of culinary improvisation. Her love of cooking and baking is deep-seated. «I started out around age 10, mostly with baking. My Irish grandmother taught me a lot. She always had aunts and uncles over for entertaining… and food was the focal point — always.»
In 2002, after 15 years as a food broker, Colleen was urged by a friend to start a catering business. She took the advice, and it proved to be quite a success. In October 2003, Colleen locked into the lease at her Pickwick Place location. After some remodeling and getting the kitchen up to code, she opened the doors to Tea Bar & Bites in January 2004.
