Holiday Inn Express & Suites St Charles

We stayed here in February on Valentine’s Day weekend. The staff members were friendly, helpful and professional. Our room was clean and comfortable.
The breakfast bar was hot, well-​stocked and surprisingly good.
The pool area was clean and warm with plenty of fresh-​laundered towels available.
We realized 2 hours into our drive home that our daughter left her treasured stuffed cat in the hotel room. We called and spoke to the front desk and they said they would have housekeeping check the room.
The cat was found and we paid to have him shipped home. It was above and beyond to take care of this for us. I will definitely stay here again when we are in town.

I have a complaint to beef about here but I will start by saying … this hotel is super clean, very new, and rooms are excellent.
We were here with our soccer team and had 12 rooms. Since there is really no where to sit and congregate in the lobby we asked if they would open the breakfast room so we could all sit and watch the blackhawks game. The first desk clerk called a manager who said no. Then once shift Change came we asked the new guy and he said he would call a different manager. He did and we even offered this time to pay $ 100 for the use of sitting at the tables. No was the answer again. There is no where to sit at all in this hotel except your room so if your part of a large group I wouldn’t suggest staying here.
Most hotels have an area for people to congregate in.

Great location for my business travel, other than that it doesn’t appear to be close to much. It’s a very clean and kept facility. The breakfast is not fancy but the offerings were hot and tasty for what was offered. The staff kept my room clean and tidy the week I stayed. The hotel offers a gym, however it’s more like a closet, the machines did work and there was a tv.

It was nice. Smelled like smoke though. Seemed kind of like they weren’t deep cleaning the facility to save money. Breakfast was packed up a half hour before it officially ended. Very nice evening front desk guy. It was 1 am check in and he gave me a good rate so I am happy.

I give this hotel a 0. We reserved a room on the phone and had a late check in, around 11pm. When we arrived there was one person waiting on us and he continued to not answer the phone taking forever to help us. He then said our cards were declining. It took us 2 hours to find a hotel with an open room and of course our cards worked! Such a rough and long night with a 2 year old because of poor service. I called and left a message with the manager and have never received a call back. Never again will we use this hotel chain!

Clean and comfortable! The location is a bit out of the way. There’s not much around. However, the rooms are clean, large and comfortable. The continental breakfast was terrific — plenty of selection. The staff was hit-​or-​miss. The person who checked us in wasn’t overly friendly. Not rude, but just not going out of her way to help at all. But the person at the front desk the next morning was much more friendly.

I had absolutely no issues here, the rooms were clean, front desk staff was friendly, and the breakfast items were fresh and not dried out.
Entrance is confusing though, it looks like you are turning onto a disused road.

Walls are too thin. I could hear the person in the room next to me tapping what sounded like drums on the desk.
When the doors close, it’s extremely loud.
Beds are so-​so.
Front desk answers the phone without identifying themselves. Hard to give compliments or concerns when no names are given.
Great price, horrid location.
NOTHING is close.

This Holiday Inn Express opened recently (4.5 months ago… making it the beginning of July 2009). It’s hard to find on maps, especially since Google satellite and street view dont show it yet. It’s diagonally across the street from Jack In The Box, corner of Elm and Elm Point Industrial Dr, not far from hwy 370. It’s hard to miss because it’s been built on a huge piece of empty land.
The hotel itself has all of the basic amenities, but not a large capacity one at that. Actually, I shouldn’t say it’s got everything because I dont know if it has meeting rooms. Most likely not. But it’s 3 stories, 73 rooms, a dining area (breakfast included with your room stay). There is no waiting lobby to just hang out waiting for your friends before dinner. They have a pool, but it’s tiny and awkwardly situated right against the dining area (with windows … so everyone eating can see the swimmers).
Even though the hotel is in the configuration of a strip, not all of the rooms have a window that faces outside. How is that, you might ask? Well, my room was on the 2^nd floor and looked into the indoor pool area. I like natural light when I wake up… but I didnt have that. Also, my room is so close to the front desk that when I called them, I could hear the front desk guy outside my door AND on the phone.
The rooms come with complementary wireless internet. Definitely a plus. A lot of big hotels still dont have that!!!
The rooms seem to be very well equipped. LCD tv’s, big quality beds (of course they’re new!), desk with an ergo office chair, lounge chair, plenty of lighting, functionally stylish bathroom with locking doors (hey, some hotels dont have that either!), a nook for ironing and hanging clothes, and a microwave. yes, microwave :)
ok — i’m going to change my rating to 4 stars. initially i had it at 3, but after listing those things, it’s got my better vote because who cares how pretty or huge outside of the room is, if the room sucks? but the room was nice.
i just noticed i’m not capitalizing anymore. anyway, check out the pictures. i love taking hotel room shots to compare all of the difference places i’ve stayed around the nation. yes, they’re fairly standard across the board, but there are lots of tiny details that differ.
this is a great hotel, even though it’s bare bones and a bit awkward. oh — not a tremendous amount of parking, but there arent floods of ppl coming to stay in the outer parts of st charles. ;)
