Planet Fitness – St. Charles

Is good for what it is trying to be which is a gym for people who are not too serious about weight training or can be creative with limited equipment/​weights and primarily want to use cardio equipment.
Pros:
Staff is great
Cheap
Pretty Clean
Cons:
Dumb Bells only go up to 60lbs
Only smith machines/​no squat racks, barbell bench press, or free weight ez curl bars.
No scales (so weird), give away candy at the front desk (like a dentist giving out taffy as you leave), put out pizza which stinks up the place once a month (ya this is a gym I couldn’t believe it the first time I saw it!)
Overall kind of a bizzaro gym but it looks like their business model is get as many virgin gym goers to sign up at a cheap monthly rate so even if they end up not going very much they will not cancel their membership because its only$ 10.

Stretching area is cramped. Other than that, great location. Bathrooms are well kept, kind staff, well maintained equipment.

Unbelievably clean gym, nice people, everyone respects everyone and they have everything I need. The reason I gave a 3 star is because an employee named Dan j believe, is extremely.: odd. I was working out a few days ago and he was standing by the bathroom and looking at everyone work out. It was straight up creepy, wasn’t saying anything he was just looking at people. On top of that from what it sounds like he doesn’t know jack about personal training. I don’t know there’s just something off about him and I don’t like I. He makes me want to figure out when he doesn’t work so I can come in and work out. I might switch gyms…

This rating is just for this location, not all of the Planet Fitness locations. The good: great parking, new location, never crowded
Not so good: it’s cold in the building. They have 2 giant fans that don’t just circulate air, they give the entire building a strong breeze. It’s difficult to fold the paper towels due to the strong breeze. The management won’t lower the speed of the fans. I have asked on numerous occasions. The televisions are up too high for the entire first row of cardio machines, the row with the elliptical machines. They aren’t so bad on the last row with the treadmills. There also is no spacing between the machines. If you want to clean off the machine, you need to go all the way down the row to get to the paper towels and cleaner. This location has a very odd layout. It’s only about 8 minutes from my house but I usually go to the Elgin location, because of the high televisions and breezy conditions. There is hardly ever more than a dozen people at the gym when I’ve been here. I don’t know how they can survive with so few people that show up, unless it’s packed early morning or late evening.

Over all really happy with this gym. It is newer so there’s never more than 20 people at a time, but in sure that will change as it grows in popularity. There are plenty of treadmills, elliptical a, bikes, and weight machines as well as a few circuit rotations if you don’t have a target area to work that day. The class schedule is a bit odd, it’s mornings and day times only, not much after work hours. Very clean, a bit breezy with the industrial fans all the time, but great environment.

Great price, employees have great customer service, clean, a lot to offer. There is a stretching area, hydro massage area, weight area, 30 min interval area, total body enhancement, tanning, chair massage area. You can bring your kids with you to work out as long as they are 13 and older.
