Established in 2009.

The Carpet Guys LLC was formed by Joseph Zago and some of his other close friends who have spent most of their lives in the business. Our mission was to set out to do things different– To show people that we are really a company who cares about people long after the sale is made. We want to help our customers pick out the carpets that they truly love and would also be the best fit for their household needs and be mindful of their budget at the same time. We do not spend a million dollars a month on TV advertising like a lot of the big national outfits, instead we utilize our grass roots here in our local Metro Detroit community. This allows our overhead to be lower and as a result– it reflects in our great deals to our customers.

Business Owner

Joe Zago started his career in Direct in-​home sales by working for a Kirby vacuum dealer in Oakland County, Michigan. After learning how to pound the pavement for many years and also learning a lot about how to protect carpet, he decided to move into the carpet industry. Joe worked as an independent sales contractor for Empire Today for several years and then for Express Flooring for another 3 years.

When Joe founded The Carpet Guys, LLC., he made it a point top be very selective about who his sales staff consisted of to ensure business was always being done honestly, ethically, and with good moral character. On top of that, Joe hand picked some of the very best skilled installation crews in Michigan. Zago says, «Fire prevention is way better than putting out fires. When you use your very own installers, who care about you and your company, you get a much better end result and happier customers than when you outsource to the outside pool of random contractors.»

We recently had our master bedroom re carpeted, as well as two custom rugs done by The Carpet Guys. From the initial visit to the install, everything went very smoothly. We were pleased with the price, friendliness, speed of install, etc. and our new carpet looks and feels great. I recommend them with no reservations.

Have had a year of extreme frustration with a carpet installation from these guys. For the first four months after installation, we could barely enter the room because of chemical smells from outgassing. they finally (!) after numerous discussions, explained that they had given us a «special» padding which is proof from dog/​cat damage, and which «probably» would outgas more as it had more latex. Of course, we do not have dogs or cats or any other messy pets… so we suffered and for no reason at all. If they had said… «do you want a cat proof pad» of course we would have said no. but no one asked or told us.
Then… less than a year into the carpet life… I am looking at it… and it looks as worn out as another carpet we have had for 15+ years… I call repeatedly… finally someone comes out… «Oh, you just need to vacuum it more to make it stand upright» and he vacuumed for 5 minutes straight in one spot… it did look more vacuumed… but not newer. Then he said the carpet was «mid-​grade»… we had asked for a carpet comparable to the other older one that is still looking better than the one year old «new» one… oh, too bad… but again, they never gave us the information that we were getting an inferior carpet.
to be fair, the installation itself was done well… the carpet is holding still and smooth… and everyone we have spoken with is polite.
but i would rather have a good quality carpet that will last, and a plain pad that won’t leak chemicals for months… courtesy is not enough.

The guy that came to the house and measured was very cool. His name was Arnie. It was a friendly talkative but pleasant. Only weird thing was when I can’t on the go shit in price they were verygenerous with the discounts.

Beware of padding installation. We removed the previous carpet and padding, washed the floor and had it ready to go. Only one seam in the padding on the previous carpet (OK, it comes in a narrow length.) When I peeked in while The Carpet Guys were installing I saw one long piece and the other half of room pieced together like a jigsaw (4 pieces). I questioned and was told by installation manager at office that this meets the (I say basic) requirements. Just done to save $$$. I would have paid more for only one seam. I believe that this WILL affect the carpet wear — as well as providing LOTS more staples in the hardwood should we ultimately want to refinish floors. Not cool carpet guys. You should have offered to fix this since I called before carpet was installed.

im glad to hear others had a good experience but mine was brutal. this guys employees, they scratched the wood floor after finishing and staining, they scratched every bit of furniture we had in that room, they cracked a leg on our dining table, and the got the stain from the floor and molding that goes around the edges onto the walls. and to top it off they never came back to put our furniture back. and then i get called a pain in the ass by their workers for spending thousands of dollars on my house and wanting it done right. and one of em kept pushing for a review. well here it is. these dudes were garbage and annoying but my house looks nice i suppose except for the furniture in the garage they never came back to move

Had new carpet installed in my living room back in June because the previous owners had two dogs they never took care of and we couldn’t get «the funk» out. Our sales rep came to the house, very personable and professional with samples and helped us choose carpet that was so very close to matching what we had upstairs on on our steps. We removed the old carpet ourselves to save a little on cost and they came in the next day and were done before you knew it. Guys did a great job, very courteous and it’s been almost a year and the carpet is still in excellent condition.

Update: I received a call from them several days later telling me the man who did the estimate had family problems and couldn’t recall any details from the estimate because he was «under to much stress». I would have to set up ANOTHER estimate. Seriously? Why would anyone continue to waste their time with this company after the experience I had with the first estimate??!

I looked them up on Unilocal,saw good reviews, posted an inquiry on their website, receive a call within 5 minutes.
I don’t move in my condo until 2 weeks from when i called and so i told the lady that i want to finalize on which WOODEN flooring i would go with and what would be an per square feet estimate. Since I haven’t moved, i would be happy to meet with your guy, go through the hardwood flooring samples and finalize the one i like and then we can go see my condo for installation estimate. SHE REFUSED SAYING, We can only meet at the location of installation. This is so BS, i don’t want to wait until i move in and then start SHOPPING for contractors and material. very disappointed!

Called to schedule an appt and spoke to Dale, we were all set with the appt until his last sentence. He was going to email me a confirming along with a $ 100.00 off coupon if my husband attended the meeting. How insulting. They do not respect me or my value as a customer to insult me in such a way. I know what I am looking for, I have done my research, I do NOT need my husband there, nor do I need his approval for the purchase we are about to make. My husband TRUSTS my opinion and judgement, not to mention WE are already on the same page as to what we want. Now this Dale, tried to back peddle and say «In his marriage, his wife is only concerned about color and texture, and as a man, he would ask the hard hitting questions, such as installation, quality, etc.» So as a woman, I must be stupid and cannot achieve the mentality to ask question regarding quality, construction, fibers, ratings, and can’t tell the difference in piles, or weight, or warranties. I only want a pretty color. How rude. You lost my business before we even got started.

I had a few questions about using carpet as soundproofing for noise in the home that I couldn’t quite find answered online. We’re exploring having carpet as a floor covering option in our still-​under-​varying-​remodel-​stages house. I like having my information down and doing my research well ahead of a need, so I did a general Google search and The Carpet Guys appeared at the top of the SERP. Dale picked up the phone and spoke with me about all the options and services the Carpet Guys could offer us when it came to carpet in general. You could tell he was knowledgeable and he repped the company’s history, awards, qualifications, personnel, and design services. Being a marketing buff, I loved that.
I found out that they do a minimum of 8 lb. padding with their carpet according to the recommended carpet mill standards while other carpet installers may cheap out with inferior 5# or 6# carpet padding if you don’t know any better before committing to a job. He also informed me they provide hard flooring options, too (I *do* like one stop shopping). Just based on the great customer service and time he spent with me over the phone (despite just being in the just-​exploring stage), I will put this company on my list of floor covering installers to visit (or have visit us, as their floor designers will come out to you) once we are ready to buy.

We’ve had our carpet almost two weeks now. So far, so good. These guys seems to know what they are doing when it comes to installation. The installation crew was not only competent, but also personable (which is a plus in my book).
However, my reasoning for giving three stars instead of something higher was because when it came to paying them, I felt they lacked professionalism. The install team forgot their credit card swiper. Since they only take cash, certified check, money order, or credit card, this was a problem. On the day of our installation, there was quite a bit of snow on the ground. I understand no one likes driving in the snow, but, they were unwilling to go back and retrieve their credit card swiper. Since we don’t keep large amounts of cash on hand, my husband had to go out and get a certified check.
I feel like they should have came prepared. My husband and I should not have been inconvenienced because they did not want to drive in the snow. After all, my husband had to drive in it to go get them a certified check. If you want to get paid, being what you need in order to do so.

After having 3 in-​house and 4 over the phone quotes to sand and finish my wood floors in almost all of my house, The Carpet Guys were undoubtedly the clear choice. They offer the best value, the best attitude, the most information regarding the process and more coats of finish than any of the competitors.
I am ecstatic about the new look of my floors. They look brand new with virtually no mess made. I was amazed by how fast they got the job done and how professional their work was. I was also amazed by how hard of a job it was and what a great attitude everyone kept throughout.
Though they were about $ 250 more than a few of the other companies I investigated, it was well worth it. They offer way more in every aspect of the project. Trust me, if you want quality flooring, it doesn’t get better than the Carpet Guys. They are incredibly successful and when you deal with them you’ll understand why.
