History

Established in 1942.

Bishop’s was started by Bernice Bishop in Sandy, Utah in 1942. In the 1980’s Bernice and her three of her children (Dave, Ray and Joyce) moved to Panguitch, UT. A Bishop’s was established there and remained for many years. In 1993 Berinice decided to try ST George (perhaps because of the beautiful weather). It was an instant success with her homemade specialties and great prices. Grandma just wanted people to enjoy good, homemade food at prices they could afford. Her son took over when she retired at the young age of nearly 90 and her granddaughter runs both ST George locations today (with the help of many other family members).

Meet the Business Owner

Darby B.

Business Owner

I began working at Bishop’s for my father and grandmother in 1993, as a dishwasher. I owned by first Bishop’s at the age of 20 when I bought out my cousin Buddy and grandma in Hurricane. In 2004 I bought out my father’s location in Washington, UT. Bishop’s remained in that location from 1993 until 2007. In 2011, my sister and I were blessed with a new location (969 N 3050 E St George). With an amazing staff and a loyal local following, it has been a great success. In May of 2015, my husband Joe and I opened a second location on Sunset in ST George. I could have never done this alone. Many thanks to Jarl and Beth who believed in me at the young age of 20, my Grandma, Dad, Uncle Ray and Aunt Joyce for teaching me and never cutting me any slack, my sister and Al Bickley who are always there to help, my landlords at both locations, my cousin Dave for being awesome, Wilbert who runs the kitchen and all of the amazing employees & customers.
