Pride Mountain Vineyards

Most worthwhile vineyard visit! — Sincere, educational, worthwhile.
We visited 3 vineyards in Napa and this was by far the most worth our trip. A long drive led us to an exclusive private property. The tour was sincere, friendly and unpretentious. Unlike many other vineyards in Napa which are more like bars that just try to make money from tasting, Pride actually gives you a very substantial and worthwhile tour and introduction. Really unlike any other vineyards.
One of the families brought kids on the tour and they happened to be a bit noisy, but our host Christy was so accommodating, apologized to us (although it was out of her control) and was very smart with dealing with the kids. She later told us she used to be a teacher!
The vineyard itself was great — huge and amusing. DEFINITELY worth it

Great service! Fabulous tour. We ran into traffic and were worried we would be late for our tour. Host was accommodating and understanding. Great wine – we bought a nice selection to enjoy at home. Beautiful setting – loved the «Napa-​Sonoma line».

The Pride Mountain Summit Experience is one of the best wine tasting experiences in Napa, and I’ve experienced many. Prior to the main event, a very nice Chard is poured for your tour of the caves and a barrel taste. The main venue is amazing: a large private room within the extensive cave system, comfortable couch sitting, cheese/​nuts/​french bread, several of their best wines already in decanters, and a very informative, very nice host (Paul). This is a 1 ½ to 2 hour event if done correctly. There’s no skimping on the pours of 95 – 100 Parker rated wines, and year after year, the wines are highly rated and consistently delicious. I would not expect this level of experience to be cheap, and it’s not ($ 75), but it’s worth every penny. And, if you purchase enough of their special wine, they wave the charge. Pride Mountain Winery is a class act, and has been for many years. They have consistently made some of the highest rated wines out there. Clearly a must if you have the time.

Gorgeous grounds. If you want to do a tour this is one worth doing (and a great place to take pictures!). I don’t remember much about their other wines, but this is the winery that introduced me to Cab Franc.. .and I will always love Pride for that reason alone. :)

This place was a good choice — nice wine, interesting cave tour, great views etc, but it gets an extra star thanks to our excellent guide, Katrina. There was a really obnoxious Russian guy in our group who kept interrupting, talking over her and generally being a first class P.I.A, which was really annoying at the beginning, but she handled herself (and him) so well that it ended up being part of the entertainment, whether he realized that or not! The woman deserves a medal!

We booked an appointment on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The drive up the hill from Napa was beautiful. We started our tastings that day at a winery in Napa, went here, then continued on to Sonoma County to spend the night. I suspect you could do the reverse and be equally happy. If I was going to taste at just one winery, I would taste here. The wines were superb.
The winery is on the top of Spring Mountain and is half in Napa and half in Sonoma County-​pretty rare… pretty cool.
Paul gave us the tour and tasting. He was very knowledgeable and gracious. (I don’t know if you can ask for someone when you book your reservations, but you will not be disappointed if you request Paul.)
We started with a crisp Chardonnay in the tasting room, then had a yummy Syrah in the caves and tasted different wines as we went through the caves (some from the barrel to compare and contrast). My most memorable was an absolutely perfect Cab Franc (We took a few home).
What a beautiful spot. The views were lovely (though clouded a bit by the rain and fog).
I am coming back on a blue skied day and will have a picnic on their patio, if that is allowed, lol. If they have member parties, that amazing patio-​outside a most beautiful room (pictures attached) would be the place… Can I join the wine allocation program, Paul? Maybe I should ask my husband first… :-)
If you just want to taste wines and not spend 45 minutes doing it, this isn’t the place for you. (Tasting and touring together is what is nice about this place.)

We did the summit tasting and we had wines that were OMG! There is also a group tasting (7 – 12) that ends in a really pretty room where you will feel like kings. I miss working for the New York Times where we would have done an «executive outing.» They all sound great. Ours was. We will come back in the Spring with a picnic and drink their wines on the deck. (I’ll call first to see if that is ok.) Maybe that will be a new «guest experience»?

Amazing wine. I love their Syrah. I’ve been twice for barrel tastings and our group was hosted by Jason Skelly. He is great — super friendly, welcoming and knows so much not only about wine (he is a sommelier) but also food. The experience of being at Pride is awesome, there are so many breathtaking views! I can’t wait to go back. FYI tastings are by appointment only. They book fast so book early!

I hate having to dish out one star reviews, but sadly this place deserves it because our tasting was a disaster from start to finish. Let me be clear that this is not simply a case of «sour grapes» (ha, get it?) I’m a very experienced wine taster, serious wine connoisseur & collector, and I have been visiting the Napa Valley 3 times per year for the last 12 years. I’m no Robert Parker, but I know what I’m talking about when it comes to wine. After over a decade of visits, I wanted to try a new place. Unilocalers, you guys let me down in a BIG way here. There is no way Pride deserves the 4+ star rating. I’m truly flabbergasted by that!
The drive up to Pride was lovely. Lots of windy roads that curved up the mountain. I should’ve known something wouldn’t be quite right when I looked up the driving directions on Pride’s website. Even the tone of their written directions was sort of snarky and unwelcoming!
We had called ahead and reserved a wine tasting for 2 without a tour (they request you make an appointment for tasting). We arrived about 5 minutes early and headed into the tasting room. At first we weren’t certain that we were in the right place. There was a dual tasting bar with a large group hovered around one bar and then an empty bar with a young woman looking down and fiddling with a computer /​register or something. We stood there for a few minutes and after receiving no greeting or welcome, we went over to the girl at the empty bar. She seemed very bothered by us when we politely asked if we were in the right place and that we were here for our 12:45 appointment.
Things started to go downhill rapidly from this point. She typed a few things on the computer and said «you are signed up for the 12:45 tour and tasting, your group will be leaving shortly.» We said we thought we’d specified that we wanted to reserve a quick tasting only (winery tours are a dime a dozen — everybody thinks theirs is special but they are truly all the same and are BORING after you’ve done dozens before). She was VERY snarky and said «no, you need to do the tour.» We politely asked again if we could just do a quick tasting and that we would be very low maintenance (which is so true, we are super easy going). She continued to argue with us and kept repeating herself over and over: «the grounds are lovely, the tour is so informative, you’ll get to go in the caves,» etc. etc.
I realize at this point we should’ve turned around and left but it was a long, tedious drive up the mountain and we really did want to try these wines that Unilocalers raved about. BIG MISTAKE on our part.
Finally she relented & said she could lead our tasting (oh joy). Let me stress that the place was EMPTY except for the 8 people waiting to take the tour at 12:45. We were the only people in the entire tasting room.
As usual, we asked to share our tasting. This is NOT because we are «cheap,» it’s just something we do in wine country. We aren’t in wine country to get drunk, we are there to taste, swirl, sniff, spit & savor. I hate wasting food and wine and since we mostly taste and dump, it makes sense for the winery to allow sharing too! We have shared more than 100 tastings and nowhere else has anybody ever had an issue with this. Lo and behold, this lady did. First she said «you’ll want your own glass.» Thanks for presuming to know what I want and don’t want. After we politely (polite to a FAULT I might add) said no, we’d really prefer just one tasting and one glass, she hit her limit. «That’s what the dump bucket is for,» she sneered.
I am still angry at myself for not leaving at this point.
So fine, we each did our own tasting. It was a stupid thing to do because this girl gave the smallest pours I have ever seen! Again, I am NOT in wine country to get drunk, but there was so little wine in our glasses that we didn’t have enough for TWO sips! There was barely enough to swirl! I took the first bit in my mouth, stopped, then wanted to go in for the second taste, but there wasn’t enough wine in there for a second sip! I NEVER complain about tasting pours but this was RIDICULOUS. To make everything even worse, she told us NOTHING about the wines. I don’t know if she just wasn’t well trained or if she didn’t care. She said she’d just moved back home from NY & was a family member of the winemaking family! What?! She’s horribly suited for the hospitality industry.
Tasting fee is $ 20 per person, waived with a 1 bottle purchase. My husband purchased 2 bottles of their awful Cabernet at $ 70 per bottle while I was in the restroom and I wanted to smack him. I would’ve just paid the $ 40 and run out of there. Their wines are OUTRAGEOUSLY overpriced. The wines were so high in alcohol that they masked the fruit & reminded me of drinking straight, cheap vodka. Taste buds are subjective, but this stuff was bad. The Merlot was TRULY awful; it’s one of the worst wines I think I’ve ever tasted anywhere (and they wanted $ 60 for it).
Skip this place.

One of the most beautiful views I have ever seen. Small group tours, our guide was very informative. The wines are very good — good reds. The view is why you would go — it’s worth the crazy windy drive up there. They also waived the fees because it was my husband’s birthday and we bought a bottle.

Love that mountain Cab. A nice combination of tour and tasting. Included a zip around the cave and a barrel tasting.
Reservations /​appointments are definitely needed.

This a gorgeous view and a hidden gem sitting atop Spring Mountain. A little bit of a journey, which only adds to the experience. Family owned and it shows. The wine tour was very informational with a tour of their caves + tasty wines. Definitely worth the tasting fee which was waived with the purchase of a bottle. Go here!

Me and my BF went to pride winery on a friends recommendation. I even came across pride in an article by the times.
I was actually quite excited to go to this winery cause it was perched on top of a hill and had stunning views.
We booked the 20 $ tour, the one with the cave and the barrel tasting and it was tremendous experience. We tasted five wines and I loved the merlot. Anthony was our tour guide and he was quite informative and gave us additional information. I have five stars for the ambience, the staff, the views and most of all the wine.
This winery is definitely a must visit the service is excellent, the wines have won numerous awards the views are extraordinary most of all you get value for your money.
All in all it was a classy, couture kinda experience where I knew exactly what was in my wine. :)

Haven’t even tasted a wine and I’m rating it a 5. They are very pet friendly and are allowing us to take our dogs on the tour. OK just finished tour and it was very good, I learnt a lot. They took you threw the caves and tasted as you walked. Beautiful property.

Jason has a wealth of knowledge and history of the wine industry and Pride in particular. He makes our every visit to Pride a unique experience. The drive up to Pride is an experience by itself, and the view when you get there is incomparable to anything else.
The Cab Franc is special and rivals the best of Bordeaux. Cheers!

Went to my first wine tasting here with friends and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We made a reservation the morning of and they were able to fit the five of us in! It’s a bit of a drive to this particular vineyard, but the sights and the people make it worth it.
Our tasting guide was Katrina and she was just the best! She took us through their famous cave and really knew her stuff. She could go from technical to casual speak depending on the audience and you could tell she loves her job!
The people here encourage you to get comfortable and just have the experience you want. Take your wine outside and walk through the vineyard as your drink. You can also take a short walk to nearby tables to have a picnic or just enjoy the peaceful silence and the wonderful view.
I can’t wait to come here again!

What a beautiful property! The drive up the side of Spring Mountain is harrowing, yet fun, if you aren’t afraid of operating a motor vehicle. When you get to the top, you are greeted by a gorgeous building and beautiful rows of vines snaking along the mountainside. We happened to get lucky and it was an unseasonably beautiful March day, so we could have happily lounged around taking in the sun and the view for hours.
Our guide for the wine tour and tasting, Jay, was wonderful. He was highly knowledgeable about the wines, the winemaking, and the winery. He had a great sense of humor and was really fun. We enjoyed the tour a lot. The caves are amazing – definitely the largest caves I’ve been in, and given endearing ambiance by real candles scattered throughout.
Sadly, I have to give Pride 3 stars for the wines. They were almost all far too young, and as such, they were, in the words of my friend, «like licking a paper bag.» Too tannic, too punchy, too too, basically. They were a real slap in the palate, which made for a rough start to the day, as Pride was our first stop.
The property was beautiful and Jay was fantastic, but if you’re going wine tasting to enjoy the wine, Pride is a skip. We had a really nice time, but our mouths were pretty tangled up by the time we left.

Location location location– first let me start by saying thank goodness I didn’t have to personally drive here– god knows I would not have been able to get there– lol hence the shirts «I survived the drive to pride winery» when you arrive.
So I’m saying that to say if you are driving please make sure you pack picnic food so that you can put something on your stomach before the drive back down–
As for the actual venue– pride is GORGEOUS! A must see! Also to stand in tween the county lines of Sonoma and Napa were pretty interesting.
Now about the good stuff– the vino– I wasn’t a fan a of many the wines perhaps that has to do with coming from cliff lede.
Plus– the tasting fee was only $ 20.00 which is reasonable considering the property grounds are gorgeous and u get to tour the caves and experience a barrel tasting (again not my favorite because I’m not a fan of unfinished wine)
But pride is definitely a must visit!!! Hands down!

Pride was my favorite vineyard we visited during our short trip to Napa this weekend. The staff were super accommodating after we called ahead to let them know we were unlikely to make our 11:15 tour and tasting appointment. They were nice enough to reschedule us for 1:30pm the same day. We were expecting just the tasting for fitting us in last minute, but we were part of a tour around the main grounds, which was a pleasant surprise to us.
The tour guide Scott was very friendly and funny. Our group was pretty small, about 12 people or so, which was a nice size. We were able to sample 3 different wines (Viognier, Merlot, and a Cab). I learned how to pronounce Viognier correctly! I discovered that Merlots grown on a mountain taste just a good, if not better than Cabs!
The grounds are kept in pristine condition. The views from the main compound are breathtaking. Interestingly, there is a distinctive line drawn which divides the property located on the Sonoma County from Napa County. Fortunately Pride was not affected significantly by the recent earthquake. It is definitely worth the somewhat scary drive up (and equally down) a winding mountain road for a taste of the good stuff. I’ll be looking for Pride wines at our local Chicago steakhouses.
