Crepes Etc.

Having been to the City Coffeehouse and Creperie in Clayton several times, I had high expectations when a friend recommended trying Crepes Etc. After going twice, I realized this place — though pretty good in it’s own right — couldn’t quite stack up.
First, the selection of crepes was surprisingly minimal — just 5 choices of crepes and a few other options. It didn’t seem like there was much ability to customize.
The first time, I split a strawberry crêpe with Nutella and a chicken, spinach and artichoke crêpe. And like I said, both were good but not great. The crepes themselves were okay and the fillings were pretty good but not great. The second time, I got the bananas foster rum crêpe and it was really flavorful and good.
City Coffeehouse and Creperie wins 10 times out of 10 in my mind. And no, this is not a fake review — just using it as point of comparison (especially because CC&C is one of my favorite places).

They have both savory and sweet crepes to choose from. Everything is good but not spectacular. Service is not a strength. There is limited patio seating, but you can sit outside. Dogs are allowed out front, as well.

Came here with a group and had a strawberry crêpe. I don’t go to many breakfast spots these days that offer crepes so was looking forward to it, and it did not disappoint. it was light and rich without being too sweet (given that I knew what I was getting myself into with a «desert-​like» breakfast food).
Crepes cook really quickly so be prepared to have your food ready fast! I felt my crêpe was pretty overpriced but I wasn’t super surprised as places in the CWE typically are a bit pricier. Although I would assert that for the price, a little nicer ambience would have made it worth its while; it definitely has a cheap diner sort of look to it.
Overall, I’d recommend this place if you’re around the CWE and are looking for a quick bite to eat for breakfast/​brunch, but otherwise, make the drive to a less expensive breakfast spot.

It’s sad to see what’s happened to this place just in the past year and a half. First of all the customer service is just awful these days, it was never anything to write home about but as I sat waiting for a half hour in the nearly empty restaurant for my to go crêpe order I saw 4 different people leave after standing at the counter for 10min and having no one pay attention to them. The food quality has significantly worsened and on top of that the menu is literally cut in half. I said in my last review that this place is better/​comparable to other crepes places in STL but I absolutely take it back now. It’s a shame but I can see it going out of business soon if they don’t get their act together.

I’ve had better crepes at ihop. The two crepes we ordered came out luke-​warm, and very bland.

Simple, rich, and flavorful! Loved the crepes and waffle breakfast! Generally not a huge of whip cream so I got my food without it but still delicious! Would recommend it. Décor is beautiful!

We had been here before and brunch was amazing. I loved that they had crepes and non crêpe options.
We are celebrating a birthday and we decided to choose crepes etc since there are options for everyone. I was extremely disappointed with their menu changes eliminating most non crêpe options. The $ 6 sandwich they had was ridiculously sad and small. I will never eat here again.

I seriously don’t know why people come here. Go to City Coffeehouse and Creperie in Clayton… it is so much worth your time. There’s a few measly options here. Everything is underdelivered — my sandwich that was meant to have avocado just had some green and brown paste. possibly avocado? The sandwich was incredibly soggy and eggs over salted. The coffee comes in two varieties: decaf and espresso. Espresso??? Overall so many «little things» aren’t there, it’s an enormous disappointment.

I was totally unimpressed with this place for lunch… I’m assuming that’s partly my fault for getting lunch food from a breakfast place. The main reason I had chosen to come here for lunch today was because they advertised a «You Pick Two» for a sandwich and soup or salad (this fall weather really had me craving some soup) but upon arrival we were told that «we don’t do that anymore»… Ok, then why is it still on your website and on the menu I’m currently staring at? I can’t stand that kind of crap. If you no longer offer something, take the 5 minutes to change it on your website. It was the same with the drinks — they didn’t have a lot of what was advertised. I ordered the French Onion Soup with a side of cheesy grits and a latte and my husband ordered some type of sandwich with the grits. Now I realize that French Onion Soup is supposed to have onions in it, but this was literally just a bowl of thickly cut onions with cheese on top. There was literally two spoonfuls of broth in it. I could barely eat it. My latte was pretty bad too. It tasted like it came out of one of those machines at a really crappy gas station. My husband was really disappointed with his meal as well. The service wasn’t too great either. Even though there was no one else in line, the guy taking our order seemed really impatient. Long story short, we paid $ 30 for our lunch and were still hungry when we left (like to the point where I literally stopped at the vending machine when I got back to work).

I wasn’t familiar with parking in this area and I was on a bit of tight schedule when I visited this past weekend, so I was perfectly happy to pay a meter. I was lucky and got one right in front of the door! It was 8:30a on a Saturday in August. This turned out to be perfect timing, because by the time we were sitting at a table with our food, there was quite a line!
After ordering, I hit up their water stationed and looked around to find a table. There were plenty of open tables this early in the day. And while the inside of this place is cute, it was such a beautiful morning that I couldn’t help but eat outside and enjoy the weather before it’s officially fall. Unfortunately, eating outside did lead to my one complaint of this review… it was very clear that the tables hadn’t been wiped down. Possibly not for the past few days? There was a thick film of dirt over the entire table. It just felt gross. I was certainly careful about setting my utensils on the plate and NOT the table.
My friend ordered the Malted Waffle and let me have a taste. It was covered in freshly whipped cream and berries. Upon putting a small bite into my mouth, the very first thing I felt was how completely pillowy soft this waffle was! Then I was hit by the rich flavor of the malt, which kind of tasted like a well rounded vanilla. This beautiful waffle needed very little syrup because the whipped cream and berries provided so much flavor!
I ordered the Wimbledon French Toast — orange vanilla custard soaked brioche, cornflake crusted and topped with strawberries and whipped cream! As you can see from my picture, the french toast is cut into sticks and then stacked into a tower — the finished product looks terribly impressive! Even if it is slightly terrifying to carry to the table. Again, the whipped cream was super delicious — I wish it came with more! The outside of the toast has a very nice crisp, and the inside is soft. Now, there is a spectrum of moisture/​custard-​iness when it comes to french toast. This was definitely on the less moist end. I’ve recently begun to discover that I personally prefer the other end of the spectrum because I feel that in most cases, more flavor comes along with that custard. And then I end up using less syrup. But in this case, all I wanted to do was completely soak every bite with the sugary stuff! And it was certainly delicious! But I have to say that my favorite french toast in STL is still at Whitebox Eatery.
My friend and I also took a treat to go — we both ordered the same thing because it was without a doubt the star of all their pastries and cakes! I think they called it a Salted Peanut Butter Chocolate something or other. And the cashier described it to me as being pretty peanut buttery. But I completely disagree — I think a more accurate description is a snickers cake. There are layers of chocolate cake, caramel, nougat and chocolate ganache. It’s topped with caramel, chocolate chunks and peanuts. The chocolate was rich, the cake was soft, the caramel was über sweet and gooey and there was also a very subtle crunch. Not only from the peanuts, by possibly from come kind of crispy wafer stuck in amongst the many layers? The crunch reminded me of Little Debbie Nutty Bars. This outstanding… whatever-it’s-called was definitely my favorite part of breakfast. I sure hope it’s there the next time I go back!

Atmosphere & food was absolutely delicious! Exactly what type of breakfast place I was hoping to find! Can’t wait to come again!

I was here for late Sunday brunch. I had the Texas Crêpe and a hot tea and my dining companion had the Strawberry Crêpe and an orange juice. I think it was nearly $ 40 for that. Nothing was bad but honestly it really wasn’t worth it. The place was disorganized even though they weren’t particularly busy. It appeared as if they had been busy earlier because many of the tables hadn’t been cleaned off and if I had it to do over again I would just choose to go somewhere else.

When I heard I had to eat here for breakfast with a group I was with, I was disappointed since I’m gluten free and assumed my options would be limited. But not only did they have a ton of egg options, but they also make gluten free crepes! And my gosh… they were amazing! The atmosphere is also very nice. The aesthetics are French inspired, and it was very cool and lovely.
I give my full support. I just wish I didn’t live in Minnesota so I could eat here more! If I lived around this are, I literally think I’d have breakfast here every single morning.

Not bad place. Staff not real friendly but not bad almost seemed like you were bothering them. Ordered a breakfast crêpe but had more in it than listed on the menu. Glad im not alergic to any of it. Asked about items on menu like hot chocolate but said the menu is outdated and some items they dont carry any more. Umm update your paper menu then, Realllllyyyy. Nostalgic inside and nice area outside to eat. Slightly recommended if your a crêpe person i guess. Co worker said the french toast was pretty good.

The madness continues at Crepes Etc! Just when I saw a glimmer of hope mid last year when I heard this restaurant was under new mgmt or perhaps they meant no management?
Pros: good crepes etc.
Cons: poor customer service –kids running the joint are indifferent on a good day, totally rude on bad days. You may not eat at the same time as your dining companion albeit you ordered at the same time. If you place an order” to go” during busy times your order may get pushed back so they can serve other diners. Who cancels oatmeal when the weather reaches 60 degrees? People eat oatmeal year round!

I wasn’t extremely impressed with this place. The interior design of it is attractive enough, sunny and cozy, but I dislike the way they have it set up that you enter and are ushered to immediately order your food in line. It would be awkward to attempt to skirt around the ordering customers to find seating first. The problem with this is that once you order, you don’t know if you’re going to find a place to sit. You can’t really see the dining area from the ordering station.
I ordered a «skinny calefornia crêpe» and it was just alright. I think they use precooked chicken that they re-​heat in most of their chicken recipes. Everything tasted a bit stale like it wasn’t made fresh. I did like my coffee drink, though.
This place is just OK but I wouldn’t go back. There are too many better breakfast/​brunch/​lunch places around.

I went to Crepes Etc. in November of 2014, it’s been a few months, but I am finally catching up to my «draft» review list.
Crepes Etc. is one of my favorite locations in Clayton. I am not a bit Clayton fan. There are too many pretentious people who only enjoy themselves. That being said, Crepes Etc. is a breath of fresh air in the snooty neighborhood.
Their selection of savory and sweet crepes are bar none. Nowhere else I have ever been compares. They are delicately created, wonderfully finished and never a disappointment. I will go back for as long as they are there.
Only a few issues. The floor has a funny bump in it. Sometimes if you are walking to refill your coffee you will stumble. That’s not anything they can fix, but just beware. It’s deceiving.
The price is decent, the food is superb and the staff is always smiling. That’s all I can ask for in a creperie. Long live Crepes Etc!!!

Crepes, Etc. is a frequent brunch spot of mine. The primary reason is because it serves brunch until 5pm on Sunday’s. A lot of other places stop serving brunch at 2:30pm on Sunday’s. Sometimes it’s really hard for me and my friends to get to a brunch place before 2:30pm…because you know. Here’s a summary of everything I’ve tried from Crepes, Etc.
Buttermilk-​Pecan Waffle: This is good, but I don’t necessarily recommend it because it’s just a waffle and not nearly as special as anything else on their menu.
Crêpe aux Nutella: Chocolate and hazelnut crepes… very delicious!
Croque Monsieur served «Madame» style: This is a shaved ham and melted swiss breakfast sandwich. It is served on a croissant. When you order it «Madame» style, it comes with a fried egg on it (definitely order it «Madame» style!).
They also served Illy coffee, which is above average coffee. I enjoy it.
When you enter the restaurant, you order your food at the front counter and are given a buzzer so you’ll know when you’re food is ready. The staff doesn’t wait on you. I wish they did, because based off the prices of the menu, I just expect a slightly nicer setup.

Yessss… Brunch! I came here on a Saturday with a group of friends. upon arrival I was impressed! While waiting in line I had the chance to see numerous people walk by me with plates of delicious and scrumptious looking brunch items! They offer a pretty wide variety of items, soups, salads, sandwiches, eggs cooked in almost any style, and of course, crepes — savory and sweet!
I decided to go with the Chicken, Spinach, and Artichoke Crêpe because it sounded delish on the menu. It was pretty good, but after trying my friends nutella and strawberry crêpe, I feel that I made the wrong choice! Next time I’ll be going sweet instead of savory.
Seating was a bit tough for a large group during lunch time in the main dining area, but they had excess seating downstairs where we were able to fit comfortably and enjoy ourselves. It almost looked like it was a part of another restaurant, but I guess they have good partnerships in Maryland Plaza!
Overall, the service was good, the staff was friendly, and our food came out quickly! I’ll be back to try more from the tasty menu!

Crepes, Etc. is quickly becoming a favorite spot of mine. Located in the thick of CWE, it’s perfect for grabbing breakfast or lunch and then walking around or just sitting to people-​watch. The interior has always been clean and the employees have always been friendly and helpful whenever I’ve gone there. Their menu is limited to their specialty — sweet and savory crepes — with a couple soups and salads and a full espresso menu available as well. They also typically have copies of Sauce and other free St. Louis magazines available.
In the past, I have enjoyed the crepes aux nutella and the chicken, spinach, and artichoke crepes, as well as the white chocolate mocha and the mayan mocha. The crepes aux nutella are what you would expect — a thin pancake folded over just the right amount of nutella with your choice of fruit (banana for me), dusted with powdered sugar. The chicken, spinach, and artichoke crepes are more complex, and have a much more diverse flavor profile. The white wine cream sauce is the dominating taste, with the red onion, garlic, and tomato tastes following in succession. The chicken is mixed in with the other ingredients atop the crêpe, which wraps around the grated parmesan that adds a welcome contrasting texture. This dish is worth ordering twice and I most likely will do so in the future.
For the espresso drinks, the white chocolate mocha is a great way to start your day, albeit nothing to write home about. If you’re in the mood for a mocha, just skip the regular and get the Mayan version. The cinnamon adds a whole new dimension of taste, and the way Crepes, Etc. makes it — creamy and mixed just right — means the drink is one you can enjoy over and over.

Beautiful little French bistro in a gorgeous neighborhood. Pastries are a little expensive but delicious. I ordered an iced latte and was very happy with the flavor.
This would be a great place for a lunch or breakfast date. Atmosphere is adorable.

Something has changed… namely the quality of service and food! Took waaaayyyyy too long for the small order to arrive. My hot chocolate, which I use to rave over because of its beautiful presentation and huge homemade marshmallow floating atop. Now served in a «go cup» turned me off. When I explained to the manager that I was dining in and preferred a ceramic mug he shot back «We don’t normally do that on the weekends due to business.’
I was so confused and slightly pissed at the same time. The drink was simply not the same, the experience was ruined and the food was subpar. I had concluded on this day… it would be my last patronizing Crepes.
